YANCEY, Mary A. SHOBE 1845-1924 Altona Cemetery, Altona, Grand River Twp, Bates Co, MO Adrian Journal, Adrian, MO, Thursday, Dec 11 1924 GRANDMA YANCY DEAD - Mrs. Mary A. Yancy passed away at the home of N. M. Jones in this city, Friday, December 5th, 1924, after a brief illness of pneumonia; aged 80 years. Mary A. Shobe was born near Lincoln, Mo., February 8, 1845. In 1860 she was united in marriage with Wm. Yancy. To this union four children were born. Her husband and three children preceded her in death some years ago. Mrs. W. H. Dunn, a daughter, survives. Mrs. Yancy had been a member of the Christian church for sixty-five years and was always a devoted and faithful worker in the cause. Funeral services for Mrs. Yancy were held Sunday afternoon from the Adrian Christian church. Burial was made in the Altona cemetery.

YARICK, Thelma Alberta FINCH 1917-2003 Kansas City Star, Kansas City, MO, Tuesday, Dec 9 2003 Thelma A. Finch Yarick, Hume, Mo., died Dec. 8, 2003, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, Mo. Thelma was born Oct. 16, 1917, to Albert Furney Finch and Jessie Elizabeth (Curtis) Finch in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Hume High School in 1935 and attended Fort Scott Community College. She married Frank John Yarick on Nov. 25, 1937. She was a member of the Hume Methodist Church. She served as President of the United Methodist Women for many years. She was past 4-H leader at the Hume Rose Leonard and Foster Cloverleaf Clubs when her children were in school and a charter member of the Neighborly Nan Extension Club. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank. She is survived by her children, John, of Raymore, Mo., A. F., of Rich Hill, Mo., and Marilou Crum, of Manchester, Mo.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Services Dec. 11, 2003 at the Hume Methodist Church, Hume, Mo. YATES, Audrey Alene CLYMAN 1916-2007 Nevada Daily Mail, Nevada, MO, Tuesday, Jul 3 2007 Audrey Alene Yates, 91, Nevada, Mo., died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, following an illness of several weeks. She was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Lawrence County, Mo., to Franklin Oscar Clyman and Dora Janette Evans Clyman. She was married Feb. 16. 1947 in Kansas City, Mo., to James Calvin Yates and he preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1999. Mrs. Yates was born and reared in Lawrence County and graduated from Golden City High School, Golden City, Mo. During World War II she was in the Cadet Nurse Corp at General Hospital in Kansas City. She came to Nevada in 1965, and spent the remainder of her life in this area. She worked for 13 years as a nurse's aide at Nevada City Hospital, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada. She was also a charter member of the Bushwacker Quilting Club and served in a variety of leadership roles in the Presbyterian Women's Group. She also sang in the choir at the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada for many years. Survivors include two sons, Frank Yates, San Diego, Calif., and Roy Yates, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Laura Janette Davidson, Prairie Village, Kan.; three grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Wheat, Carthage, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and one brother, Oscar Franklin Clyman. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21, at the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada. YATES, Donnetta Ruth 1971-2001 Donnetta Ruth Yates, May 20, 1971 - March 25, 2001. Donnetta Ruth Yates, 29, Archie, died Sunday, March 25, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. She was born May 20, 1971, in Kansas City, the daughter of Roy Dale and Barbara Reed Yates. Ms. Yates grew up in Adrian where she graduated from high school in 1990. She was active in 4-H, attended church camps and held offices in FFA. Her freshman year of college was spent in Sweden, chosen as one of three nationwide by the National FFA. She graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg with a degree in photography and anthropology. The further pursue her anthropology career, she traveled to China. Ms. Yates had worked as a studio assistant for Bartz Photography in Butler, as an assistant photographer for both Paul McMillan at VanDeusen Photography and Kelly Daniel in Prairie Village, Kan. For the past four years, she had been a photographer for Skinner-Vaughn in Harrisonville. She was a member of the Missouri Professional Photographers, Professional Photographers Association of Greater Kansas City and Professional Photographers of America. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Adrian. Surviving are her parents, Roy and Barbara Yates, Archie. Cremation. YOAKUM, Clifford Frank 1925-2008 Cass County Democrat-Missourian, Harrisonville, MO Clifford Frank Yoakum, 83, Harrisonville, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on March 28, 2008, at Liberty Memorial Hospital, Liberty, surrounded by his family who loved him and will miss him greatly. He was born Jan. 7, 1925, in Rich Hill, the son of Jesse and Bertha (Woodall) Yoakum. June 1, 1947, he married Verna M. Gould, Harrisonville. Mr. Yoakum spent most of his life in Cass County after serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church almost 50 years. He was a good provider for his family of five children. He worked for a few years at the Chevrolet Leeds Plant in Kansas City prior to working for Jack Cooper Transportation for 28 years, before health reasons caused his early retirement in 1979. After retirement, he spent his remaining years farming, raising cattle and gardening. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters; two brothers; and his son, Richard Dale Yoakum. Surviving are his wife of nearly 61 years, Verna M. Yoakum, of the home; three sons, Donald Yoakum and wife, Marilyn, Archie, Mark Yoakum and wife, Pam, of Dallas, Texas, and David Yoakum and wife, Sheryl, of Lenexa, Kan.; a daughter, Susan Heckadon and husband, Scott, Blue Springs; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Yoakum, of Topeka, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Services were March 31 at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, south of Harrisonville. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. (Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville)
YOKLEY, Fern SHORT 1919-2007 Nevada Daily Mail, Nevada, MO, Friday, Aug 3 2007 Fern Yokley was born Dec. 11, 1919, and passed away Aug. 1, 2007, at the age of 87. She was the third of ten children born to Liel Webster Short and Katie (Bewley) Short. She had four sisters: Wretha, Oleta, Kathleen, and Irma Jean, and five brothers: Harry, Warren, Merl, Winfred, and Howard. Fern married Jake Yokley on March 5, 1941, at the home of Rowena Thomas in rural Vernon County, Mo. They had four children, Gary Allen Yokley and his wife, Sharon, of Liberal, Mo.; Joseph Charles Yokley and his wife, Shirley, of Bronaugh, Mo.; Lois Anne Mahnken and her husband, John, of Fort Scott, Kan.; and Linda Sue Weaver and her husband, Ed, of Liberal. All survive. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Harry, Merl, and Warren Short, and two sisters, Retha and Oleta. Fern was a Christian with a strong belief in God. She loved God, her family, and her many friends. Fern and Jake Yokley farmed near Arcadia, Kan. until Jake passed away in 1985. Fern then moved to Liberal where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, and caring for her family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in McKill Cemetery, southwest of Bronaugh.
YORK, Carl Raymond 1918-2012 Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Bates Co, MO Carl "Raymond" York, surrounded by his family, passed away Friday, April 6 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Raymond was born March 15, 1918 in Ballard, Missouri, son of Arthur Monroe and Ida Mae Zeiler York. He attended school in Ballard. Raymond was married to Cleta Maurine Ghere on Oct. 1, 1939 in a farm house south of Adrian, Missouri on 71 highway and to this union three children were born. He was a member of the First Christian Church for 69 years. Raymond was very active in church, serving as an Elder, Deacon, Chairman of the Board; he also served on various committees. Raymond served with the U.S. Army and was proud to have driven a tank on the front line for three years during World War II as a member of the 636 Battalion of Tank Destroyers. After returning home from the war Raymond worked as a mechanic for Stanley Gray Motors. Later in life together with his wife Cleta, he owned and operated Al-eta Fabrics in Butler for many years. Raymond served as a city councilman and was Mayor of Butler from 1974-1978. Notably, Raymond's brother Glenn also served as Mayor of Butler, and the two were the only pair of brothers to ever hold the office. Raymond was a charter member of the original Butler Optimist Club, and had recently received his 50-year membership pin. Raymond and his wife Cleta worked at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri for several years. They also had a lunch wagon and traveled to many local auctions serving hamburgers and homemade pies. The highlight of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended their sports and music activities as long as his health permitted. He liked to fish and did machine quilting. He loved to be with family and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cleta in 2005; a son Greg; and an infant daughter, Raneta Sue; brothers Ivan Estel, Ervin, Herbert, Glenn, Billy; and sisters Margie Lain, Artie Lippold and Delpha Ladine. He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Fischer and husband Darrell of Butler; grandchildren Travis Fischer of Butler and Heidi Tourtillott and husband Dylann of Rich Hill, Missouri; three great-grandchildren Dalton Fischer, Kylann Tourtillott and Katelynn Tourtillott; one brother Lonnie Lavern York and wife Betty of Arlington, Texas; and one sister Naomi Cummings of Nevada, Missouri. He also leaves behind one brother-in-law Donald Ghere and wife Gerry; nephew Jayce Ghere and wife Annie; nieces Jacque Como and husband Michael, Debbie Ghere and Kelly Ghere; as well as many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. YORK, Cleta Maurine GHERE 1919-2005 Cleta Maurine York, surrounded by her family, passed away October 10, 2005, at the Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler, Mo. She was born on a farm southeast of Butler on June 21, 1919, to Vernie Hobart and Alice Ethel Baker Ghere, and at the time of her death was 86 years, three months, and nineteen days. The oldest of three children, she attended the rural schools of Brackney and Pleasant Valley, then graduated from Butler High School with the class of 1937. She was very proud of never missing an alumni meeting and attended faithfully, year after year. Cleta was married to Raymond York on October 1st, 1939, and three children were born from this union. A few days before her death they observed their 66th wedding anniversary with all of their family gathered for a memory-making event. She obeyed her Lord at a young age and was baptized in Christian faith and added to the membership of the Double Branch Christian Church. She later transferred her membership to the First Christian in Butler, and worked tirelessly in the Christian Women's Fellowship. For many years she served as Superintendent of the Sunday school, and was on the state board of this church district. She continued as a member of the Double Branch Ladies Aid, always enjoying the activities. Maurine York was preceded in death by her parents, and infant daughter, Raneta Sue, a son, Gregory Lynn and a sister-in-law, Jeane Ghere. Those who survive to mourn her passing are her husband, Raymond, her daughter, Sheryl and husband Darrell Fischer; brohters, Warren E. Ghere and Donald and wife Gerry Ghere, grandson, Travis Fischer, granddaugther, Heidi and husband Dylann Tourtillott, great-grandson, Dalton Fischer, great-granddaughters, Kylann and Katelynn Tourtillott, her very special nephew Jayce and wife Annie Ghere, special nieces, Jacque Como and husband Michael, Kelly Ghere and Debbie Ghere, great-nieces, Kristin Ghere and Alexandra Como, step great-niece, Crechelle Swickhammer, and step great-nephew, Zane Swickhammer. She is also survived by many other relatives and a host of friends, and will be greatly missed by all.
YORK, Edith 1907-1908 Walnut Grove Cemetery, Bates Co, MO Appleton City Tribune, Tuesday, Sep 15 1908 Deep sorrow was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. York, residing in the south part of our city, in the death of little Edith, their bright infant daughter, last Thursday after a brief illness. The little treasure was born May 16, 1907 and for a little over one year blessed the home with her infantile form and ways, and then she passed away to the great beyond. The remains were taken to Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bates County the following day, where funeral services were held.
YORK, Ervin L. 1904-1993 Ervin L. York, age 88, of Butler, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 19, 1993 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Ervin was born November 10, 1904, the son of Arthur M. and Ida M. Zeiler York. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Nickell on November 20, 1927 and to this union one son was born. Ervin was a member of the First Christian Church of Butler. He was retired from York Implement in Butler. Ervin loved to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, restoring antique furniture, square dancing, and doing needlepoint. Ervin was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, Ivan, and Glenn; one sister Delpha. He is survived by his loving wife Helen; his son Kent York and wife Phyllis of Butler; three brothers, Raymond York and wife Cleta of Butler, Billy York and wife Geneva of Galena, Kansas, and Lonnie York and wife Betty of Arlington, Texas; three sisters, Naomi Cummings and husband Clifford of Butler; Artie Lippold of Fontana, California, and Margie Lane of Kingman, Arizona. Ervin is also survived by his grandchildren, Cheryl Taggart and husband Ken of Los Altos, California, Patty York of Butler, Douglas York of Auburn, California, Lesley Lewis and husband Jim of Frisco, Texas, Liz Tessier and husband Bob of Woodland, California and Eileen York of Sacramento, California; and ten great grandchildren, Chad Ryan, Tyler, Emery, Lauren, Danielle, Emily, Richard, Phillip, and Chelsea, plus a host of friends and neighbors.
YORK, Helen NICKELL 1910-1999 Helen York, age 89, of Butler, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at the Willow Lane Nursing Home in Butler. She was born March 18, 1910, in Bates County, Missouri the daughter of Charles and Rozella Berrickman Nickell. On November 20, 1927 she was united in marriage to Ervin L. York and to this union one son was born. She was a member of the Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Wilbur Nickell; and her sister, Cecil Sargent. Helen is survived by her son, Kent York and wife Phyllis of Lake Kiowa, Texas; her brother, Lester Nickell of Ft. Worth, Texas; her grandchildren, Cheryl Taggart of Frisco, Texas, Patty York of Elkhart, Indiana, Lesley Lewis and husband Jim of Frisco, Texas, Liz Tessier and husband Bob of Elkhart, Indiana, Eileen Edelmayer and husband Eric of Sacramento, California; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Chad, Ryan, Tyler, Emery, Lauren, Danielle, Emily, Richard, Phillip, Chelsea, Meagan, Alec and Peter.
YOSS, Agnes Adele 1912-2007 Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie Twp, Bates Co, MO Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, MO Agnes Adele Yoss, daughter of John T. and Louise (Fischer) Yoss, was born on August 7, 1912 in Rockville, Missouri. She passed away on September 20, 2007 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home at the age of 95 years. Agnes worked and lived in several locations throughout her life. She retired from Guy's in Kansas City in 1979 and moved to Appleton City, Missouri where she remained throughout her life. Agnes was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City, Missouri and was baptized on August 11, 1912 and confirmed on April 5, 1925 at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri. She served her church with her participation as Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild, Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Reinhold, Walter and John Yoss and a sister Lydia(Yoss)Rapp. Agnes is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. YOUNG, Bessie Belle WATSON 1888-1931 Adrian Journal, Adrian, MO, Thursday, Nov 19 1931 Mrs. Bessie Belle Young died at her home near Johnston City, Mo., on Saturday, November 14, 1931; aged 43 years, 9 months and 16 days. Bessie Bell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Watson, was born near Altona, Mo., and spent her childhood in that vicinity. At the age of 13 years she was converted and united with the Altona Baptist Church and lived a consisted Christian life until she was called home. On May 12, 1908, she was united in marriage with Louis G. Young. To this union three children were born, viz: Hugh Milford who preceded her in death at the age of 10 years; Ora Mae and Kenneth, at home. Besides the two children she is survived by her husband, her father, one brother Marion Watson, three nieces, one nephew and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Young was a good Christian woman and many friends mourn her untimely passing. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Altona Baptist church and interment was made in the cemetery at that place.

YOUNG, Ethel Marie 1920-2009 Ethel Marie Young, 89, Adrian, MO, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Adrian Manor in Adrian, MO. Ethel was born February 19, 1920 in Fontana, KS, the daughter of George Henry and Kate May (Moore) Brocker. She was a 1937 graduate of Fontana High School. She was so happy to attend her 70th class reunion in May 2007. Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, Missouri. Interment was in Miami County Memorial Gardens, Paola, KS.
YOUNG, Henrietta BROWN 1842-1907 Death of Henrietta Young - Henrietta Brown was born September 14, 1842 in Scott County, Illinois where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Abraham Young August 7, 1861. To this union six children were born: James Elsworth, who died in infancy; William F., Abraham Jr., Clara, Clarence, and Melvin. The family moved to Missouri in 1878, where the deceased resided until the time of her death, April 18, 1921 at Rockville, Missouri. Those of her family who preceded her in death are her husband, who died in 1908, Abraham Jr, a son, and Clara a daughter. The remaining are W. F. of Porterville, California; Clarence and Melvin, who reside near the home place, besides several grandchildren. She united with the Christian Church several years ago and remained a constant member until her death at the age of 78 years and 7 months.

He is survived by his parents, one brother and one sister. These have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in the loss of this bright little boy. Funeral services were held from the Altona Baptist church Friday afternoon. Burial was made in Altona cemetery.

YOUNG, Maude May JENNINGS 1878-1932 Radford Cemetery, Deepwater Twp, Bates Co, MO The Montrose Tidings, Montrose MO, Thursday, Jun 2 1932 Death of Mrs. Mark Young - Mrs. Maude Jennings Young passed away Sunday, May 22, at her home near Spruce, Mo. Mrs. Young had been in poor health for some months. While her death was not unexpected it was a great shock to family and friends. Mrs. Young had been a resident of Bates County her entire life. She was a member of the Methodist Church and president of the Missionary Society and her kind words and loving deeds will never be forgotten. The bereaved have the sympathy of their many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Spruce Methodist church Monday afternoon and burial made in the Radford cemetery.
