Directions: From the intersection of hwy. 60 and 37 in Monett, MO: Go about 6 miles west on 60 hwy, watch for a sign on the hwy. that reads Jolly Mill, with an arrow pointing south and turn left (south) on farm road 1010. At FR 2025 turn right (west). The Jolly Bethel Church and Cemetery are on this road at the intersection of FR 2025 and FR 1002.

Pioneer Citizen Dead:

William Hisaw, one of this county's pioneer citizens, passed away at his home on Capps Creek in the northwestern part of the county, Friday, June 13, at the advanced age of 77 years, from cancer of the stomach.

He had lived in this country since the early thirties, having moved when only a year old with his parents who came from Tennessee. His father, William Hisaw, was one of the early settlers of the country, having settled on Capps Creek near the Newton County line in 1836. From infancy he has lived on the same farm homesteaded by his father. During the Civil War he served two years and ten months in the Confederate army as a member of Company G. Eight Missouri Infantry. In the eighties he served two years as a member of the country court from the western district. At that time he took an active part in all enterprise that were for the public benefit.

On December 6, 1855, he was married to Nancy Richardson who also came from one of the oldest families to settle in this county. She died died about eight years ago. To them were born seven children. Five are still living. They are: Mary E. West of Oklahoma, Melissa L. Slankard, Mary S. Cummings, Fred and Walter Hisaw of Peirce [Pierce] City.

In the death of William Hisaw the county loses a good citizen and one of its oldest settlers. He was one of the citizens, most of whom have passed away, whose life history makes up the greater part of the history of this county.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon and he body laid to rest in the Jolly Cemetery.
