Hi: I am researching my COLLINS family on the net. Many of my ancestors settled in the Ozark, Howell County area(s). On June 21 & 22 there was a David COLLINS 1750 family reunion. On June 19, 1997 there was a real nice article written by Marvin Oaks in the West Plains Daily Guill, West Plains,MO., about our family. I don't know if this is worth the space on your web site; but I am sure there are lots of other COLLINS / BULL / TURNBULL / CROSS/etc. researcher that this might be of helpful or interested.By the way I understand this was the 6th reunion and there was 600-1000 family members attented. This was just a thought. He married (2) MARY ANN GODWIN 1879, daughter of Henry Godwin and Cathrine Story. Notes In 1867 or 1868 John Wade and wife moved to Sand Mountain near the county line of Marshall Co. Georgia here four children were born. When the youngest Tommy was born 5 weeks later Sarah died, and was burried at guntersville on Christmas eve. 1878. After the death of Sarah, John met, courted and married miss Mary Ann Godwin, in the fall of 1879 In the early years of their marriage John was a farmer and raised large crops of corn there was no market for corn in this form so the only way to convert it into cash was to make whiskey of the corn (Corn Whiskey ) The farmers would bring their corn and make it on the halves. Selling the whiskey for cash in order to buy supplies for the family . The government had passed a new law in regard to the sale of whiskey requiring 90 cents per gallon revenue and they had to buy a license. So they were beginning to think of greener pastures somewhere else. So....... Christmas 1879 came and with it came Joe Jr. and his wife Effie returning from Arkansas for a visit and to meet his brothers new bride Mary Ann Godwin. After the holidays John and Mary Ann decided to make the long trip back to Arkansas with his brother Joe and Family. After selling their land and stock they loaded their children and belongings in their wagons for the trip. They went by Wagon to Larkins Ferrylanding on the Tennesee river. Trading their wagons for supplies, they boarded a paddle wheeled steam boat and their port was for Decatuer, Alabama. With their belongings, they took the train from Decatur through to Memphis and then on to Little rock Arkansas. Here they started the last trek of their journey, up the Arkansas river they traveled by train and unloaded at White Oak station, which is in Franklin Co. Arkansas. Here they found land to settle on and lived the placid and peaceful life of a farm family. Soon after the family arrived in Arkansas, in 1880 Little Tommy died at the age of 2 In the fall of that year John and Mary started their family When John decided to move the family to Hot Springs in the year 1892 the party was made up of John his wife Mary, John's son James and their four children Robert, John, Henry, Pearl and baby Eddie Nancy, John's daughter and husband Charles along with his brother Alfred Graf. They took 2 wagons, one drawn by mules and the other by a yoke of oxen along with some riding horses. When the riders reached Beverly Post Office on Grand Prairie, which is about 5 miles from Charleston, little baby Eddie took sick with phenemonia and almost died. The party stopped for a few days and the baby was so sick they were unable to continue as planned, so Nancy and Charles who were expecting their first child, took the team of mules and a wagon along with Charles brother Alfred and went on to Hot Springs. Bad luck was to go with them, for in the fall Charlie died. Nancy with her daughter Lucy Graf (Fisher) must be her married name) and Alfred came back to White Oak, where she later married Alfred her brother in law. John rented land near Beverly and stayed long enough to make one crop. During this time at Beverly, Mary Ann's mother, Catherine with her three sons came to visit them. They were on their way to settle land in Texas and their Catherine died at venus, Texas, September 23, 1920, Mary never saw her mother after that visit. Later that year 1893 John W. Wade moved his family of 5 to Texas. James his oldest son became dissatisfied and ran away, back to Arkansas where he lived with his sister Naomie Caster and her husband Dan. The Wade family settled in Omaha Texas where they attended the Babtist Church in Concord. The family then moved to Cooksville, where their family was increased by the birth of another son Walter Rufus Wade jan 26, 1896 Children of John Wade and Sarah Oosley are: 5. i. The Went By Wagon And Made One Crop, But John Calvin Did Not Like The Place He Said (I Am Not Going To Live In Place That Does Not Have Wood And Water" So They Came Back To East Texas And That Is The Reason This Family Was Born And Raised In East Texas. He Was An Avid Fisherman And Back Those Days The Lakes Were Full Of Spoonbill Catfish. I Remember Seeing A Picture One Time Of Him Holding One And It'S Head Was Over His Shoulder And The Tail Was Dragging The Ground. It Weighed Over A Hundred And Was Caught In Hendricks Lake Which Is Northwest Of Tatum Texas. He Also Raised A Garden And Was Not One For Planting By The Sign’S. One Days He Was Planting Some Stuff In His Garden And A Man Came By And Told Him He Was Planting In The Wrong Sign From The Almanac (Moon) And The Told This Individual He Was Planting Hsi Stuff In The Ground, On Earth, Not On The Moon. Notes For Myrtie Etta Grimes: Myrtie Etta Grimes Rogers She Came To Texas From Cairo Illinois And Arrived On The 13Th Of September 1900 (Her Birthday). They Traveled In Wagons All The Way And Run Out Of Money On The Way And He Father (A Saw Mill Hand) Had To Stop In Arkansas And Worked For A While To Get Money To Continue The Trip One Time The Stole Some Corn From A Field To Feed The Mules And She Said When They Broke An Ear Off The Stalk It Sounded Like A Gun Shot. They Moved Into The Old Grimes Place And Paid About $1.50 Per Acre For A Hundred Acres Of Land. She Married And First The Lived On The Hemby Place In The Creek Bottom Close To Her Older Sister And Her Husband. That Was Theresa May (Grimes) Lewis And Her Husband Walter Lewis. The Were Great Friends For A While But Had A Falling Out About Some Thing And Uncle Walter Lewis Was Going To Shoot Papa But Cutting His Shotgun Shell So The Whole Wadding All Would Go Out Of The Gun Barrel When The Trigger Was Pulled. They Were Living There When The Depression Hit And Had Made A Good Crop And Had Enough Money To Pay The Place Off, But Papa Decided To Wait Until The Next Year. Well The Banks Failed And They Lost Ever Cent They Had In The Bank And Lost The Hemby Place Too. They Moved To Crystal Farm Northwest Of Tatum Texas But They Never Recovered From The Depression. Papa Died And She Had The Kids Built Her A House On Her Inherited Land (Which Cannot Be Taken For Taxes) And That Is Where I Was Raised After She Went To Flanagan Texas And Got Me. The Word Is That Papa Did Not Want Another Mouth To Feed But She Overruled Him. From Beckville She Moved To Center Point, In An Old Store Building That Was Built By Cecil Murray Before Died And Was In Aunt Zella'S Yard. After She Died, Sister Bought The Place From Aunt Zella And Charles And Sold Out Of Texas Utilities Mining Company. Aunt Zella Had Her House Moved To Carthage Texas And Sold Out Too. She Died In Carthage Texas. Mama Died While Living About Three Miles East Of Tatum Texas. She Went Through Many Bad Times From Tornadoes To High Water. I Remember One Time When She Walked Beside The Horse Tilford And Me Were Riding And Waded Water Over Knee Deep Between The House And Uncle Steves. One Time She Lost Her House Keys And Was To The Point Where She Could Not See Good. The Time Was In The Fall Of The Year, And Leaves Were All Over The Ground. She Crawled From Uncle Steves To The House Looking For The Keys She Had Dropped Into The Leaves And She Found Them. She Moved Out Of Her House And Went To Aunt Zellas When I Was A Member Of The United States Navy And Lived There Until She Died. 27 We Lived In A Four Room House With No Toilet, Just Living And Bedroom For The Front Room (The Living Room Also Doubled As A Bed Room.) To The Left Of That Room Was Ma’S And My Bedroom (And All The Other Grandkids When They Were Around Which Was Most Of The Time). In The Northern Part Of The House Was The Kitchen And Wood Cookstove And No Ice Box (Although Later After I Left And Went Into The Navy) She Did Purchase A Butane Servell Gas Refrigerator. In Addition To That A Heater Was Installed In The Living Room And A Later A Butane Cook Stove Was Installed In The Kitchen. Electric Lights Were Also Installed In The House After I Left And Went To Boy’S Ranch Or In The Navy, I Don’T Remember Which. We Used Coal Oil To Put In The Lamps For Light After Dark And Got Our Coal Oil From Claude Jenkin’S Store Up The Road About A Mile And It Was $.10 A Gallon And Hard (Small Handle) For A Little Kid To Carry Home. We Had A Garden And A Potato Patch (In Front Of The Potato Was A Smoke House, But All We Ever Used It For Was A Spare Junk Room For Feed And Jars And Stuff You Did Not Used Every Day) And Raised Most Of Our Vegetables And Got Some Pork From Uncle Steve From Time To Time As He Always Had Hogs And Killed Them Each Winter. I Don’T Know Why He Moved From Dallas Back To His Old Place (The Grimes Homeplace). I Suppose He Had Some Problems With His Wife Beatrice (Langley) Grimes While He Was Living In Dallas And Just Got Up And Come Home. He Was Crippled In His Right Leg From Some Industrial Accident I Think, As He Was A Carpenter And A Very Good Cabinet Maker To, From All Accounts. I Remember He Made Rocking Chairs For His House And Tilford Carrier Some Springs Up To His House When He Moved Back And He Carried Them On His Back As We Had No Other Way To Moved Things Of That Type (We Later Had A Sled And An Old Mule) From Place To Place. The Other Room Was A Back Bedroom (To The Left Of The Kitchen) Which As I Grew Older Became My Room. It Had From One To Two Beds, And A Hole In The Ceiling So You Could Get Up The Overhead If Necessary, Depending On Who Was Living At Home At The Time. None Of The Walls Were Sealed On The Inside. Just The Outside Boards And A Bunch Of Boards Up For Partitioning The Rooms From Each Other. Ma Used Cardboard Boxes And Tacks To Seal The Rooms In An Attempt To Keep Out Some Of The Cold. At First We Did Not Have Up A Permanent Ceiling But Later On One Of The Boy’S Bought Some Lumber And Uncle Steve Put Up The Ceiling. I Think They Build The Old Clapboard House From Scratch As I Remember Them Talking About Going To The River Bottom And Cutting Some Cyprus Trees To Make The Joists And Blocks Under The House Which Set Up Off The Ground Enough So That A Kid Could Crawl Under With No Problem And That Is Where Old Boots (The Dog) And Cats Slept And Stayed Out Of The Weather When It Was Inclement. Once When I Had Some Little Kittens, The Dog Bit One And It Ran Up Under The Hose And I Went Under There To Console It. I Reached For It And It Bit A Hole In My Finger And I Had To Prize His Jaws Open To Get Him Off Me. So Much For Consoling The Cat; The Next Time As Far As I Am Concerned The Dog Can Bite His Head Off. All In All It Was Not A Bad Old Place And Was Well Used Over The Years. When I Got In School, I Remember We Had A Battery Powered Radio That Set In The Front Room And An Antenna Outside In The Field To The Side Of The House. On Saturday Nights The Neighbors Like Irene Hill And So Forth Would Come Over (Walk) As They Live (Lived In Mrs. Annie Brashears House, The Same One Marion Lived Prior To And After The War) About One Hundred Yards Down The Road In The Same House (Mrs. Annie Brashears Place) That Marion Used To Live In And Listen To The Grand Old Opry. That Was Big Time Stuff Back In Those Days, As Well As Listening To Sky King, Red Rider, The Squeaking Door, Intersanctuim Mysteries, And Tom Mix On The Radio And I Remember When President Roosevelt Died And When Truman Announced The First Atomic Bomb That Was Dropped On Hiroshima Japan And At White Sands New Mexico And Also Seeing The First Jet Airplane That Went Though The Sky Leaving Vapor Trails And The Story That Went Around About The Pilot Who Was Stopped By The Police For Speeding And Let Go Because He Told Them He Usually Went Around 600 Miles An Hour In The Airplane. True ?? I Don’T Know But It Made A Good Story. Rodney And Larry Wilkerson, Sisters Two Kids Usually Spent Most Of Their Lives With Ma Too Because Sister And Lee Wilkerson Would Fight Like Cats And Dogs And Stay Apart More Than They Stayed Together And The Result Was That The Kids Came To Stay With Ma And Me Most Of The Time. Two More Mouths Was Nothing To Feed, But What The Hell, Ma Made Two Pans Of Biscuits Every Morning And What We Did Not Eat Went To The Chickens And Dogs, So How Were Two More Kids Going To Make A Difference Anyway. She Had A Garden And Worked It Religiously And We Canned All Summer, Peas, Beans And Put Up Potatoes To Use In The Winter Time And Corn And Everything It Took To Feed Us Kids And Her Kids Who Were In And Out As The Job Market Got Kinda Tight After The Conclusion Of World War Ii. Marshall And His Wife And Step Kids And The Old Man And Patsy And Mary. In Fact They Were There When The Old Man Killed His Brother Marshall Rogers When I Was About 12 Or 13 Years Of Age. They Were All Drunk And Fighting Over Women; I Suspect Each Was Trying To Fuck The Other’S Wife Or Some Such Entanglement. Any Way In The Middle Of The Night They Got To Fussing And Jumped Up The Marshall Came At The Old Man With A Flat Iron And A Knife And The Old Man Shot Him With A Belgian Made .32 Pistol That Was Supposed To Be Mine And Was One That Cecil Rogers Had Brought Home From World War Ii As A Souvenir And Gave To Me When He Was Killed In A Car Wreck Outside Of Lordsburgh New Mexico, Where He Was Living And Working After The War. The Old Man Lived There Too And That Was One Of The Places We Went When He Got Out On Bail After The Killing And We Lived With Some Truck Driver Called Preacher Some Of The Time And Then We Moved In A Basement Apartment That Was Unfinished And By A Drainage Ditch That Use To Get Pretty Wild When They Had Flash Floods Up In The Mountains. The Drainage Ditch By The House Was Made Out Of Concrete Where It Went By The House And Was Underneath The Street Over To A Pentecostal Church And Some Mexican Houses. There Was A Little Girl (Mexican) About 10 Or 11 Hears Old And Maybe Younger Who Used To Pull Off Her Clothes And Stand On The Side Of The Road By The Church. I Thought It Was Great, But Mary Was Not To Impressed And I Don’T Think Pasty Pearl Rogers (My Younger Sister) About The Same Age, As The Naked Girl, Took Much Notice One Way Or The Other. We Built Is A House Under The Street With Adobe Mud And Tin Cans (Back In Those Days Beer Came In Metal Cans) And It Worked Pretty Well But Before We Got Through With It A Flash Flood Happened In The Mountains And Washed Our Play House Away. We Also Drew Cowboy Pictures On The Unfinished Walls Inside Of The Apartment, So That It Looked Like A Museum When You Came Downstairs To The Apparent Door. Pat Like To Pretend She Was Fucking And We Used To Lay Out In The Back Yard On An Old Bed And I Would Get On Her And Pump Away, Clothes On And All. Child Of John Rogers And Carrie Billingsly Is: I. Notes For Cecil John Murray: Was A Soldier In World War I And Was Gassed During His Escaped In Europe. Whe He Was Married To Zella Susan Rogers, He Worked In And For A Grocery Chain By The Name Of Proctor And Gamble And Live For A Time In Dallas Texas. He Came Back To East Texas And Bought Him A House In Center Point, Which Is About Three Miles East Of Tatum Texas And Went Into The Mobile Grocery Business And Kept A Lot Of People Alive During The War By Selling Grocers House To House. He Eventually Built And Ran A Store In Center Point Until He Died. He Had Strokes And Was A Diabetic And They Had Only One Child John Charles Murray Who Died A Year Or So Ago Of Cancer. Iv. John Walter (Baby) Rogers, B. August 26, 1909, Beckville Texas; D. April 16, 1930, Oklahoma. Notes For John Walter (Baby) Rogers: Was Working For His Uncle In Oklahoma And Skinned His Hand While Cranking An Old Model T Ford Automobile, Developed Blood Poisoning And Die And Wa Brough Back To Texas And Burried In The Tatum Cemetery In Tht City. Notes For Henry Durwin Rogers: When This Old Man Died, It Was Apparent From Looking Through His Belongings That He Had Been A Member Of The United States Army At One Time. We Then Asked The Veterans Administration For Assistance With Burial And The Said The His Discharge Was "Other Than Honorable" I Have Been Told The He Was A Member Of The United States Army Back In The 20S Or 30S And Served In Panama Where Marijuana Grew Wild And The Whole Bunch Of The Dried It And Smoked It. It Was Know That He Got A Discharge Of The Army By Pretending To Be Crazy. How True That Is I Don'T Know But If A Person Would Go To That Length To Get Out Of The Army, It Makes You Wonder How Mentally Stable He Was In The First Place And From Looking At His Life After The Fact Leads You To Believe That He May Have Mentally Deficient In Some Way. Henry Durwin Rogers At Around Age 13 Or14 Durwin R Rogers In Beckville Texas And Marshall Rogers Was Living With Mama, Bag And Baggage. He Had Remarried, To A Woman By The Name Of Christine Who Had Two Little Girls. His First Wife Was Named Addle Caps And She Had To Boys, John Robert Rogers Was The Youngest One And The Oldest Was Named Calvin Rogers. I Have Been Told But Do Not Know For Sure That The Oldest One Now Goes By The Name Of Atkins As Adele Apparently Remarried A Guy By The Name Of Atkins. They Had Moved Back To Mama’S House Bag And Baggage, Wife And Kids And Were Living There. Marshall Rogers Was Somewhat Like Me And Michael And Sometimes Could Get Overbearing And Mean As A Snake. One Time He Whipped Me And Finally Tilford Told Him To Stop Right Now And He Did. There Was Bad Blood Between Him And The Old Man That Went All The Way Back To Childhood When Marshall Being Older Than The Old Man Done Some Whipping And Bossing. Well The Old Man Came In As He Did From Time To Time With Mary And Patsy And Both Boys Were Living And Eating Off Mama And Staying Drunk Most Of The Time. They Did Not Have Money To Live On But They Had Money To Drink On. The Roads Were Muddy As It Was In The Winter Time And Back Then Was Before They Oiled The County Roads And Getting Back And Forth Just To Town (Three And A Half Miles Approximately) Could Be A Chore. We The Old Man Left In His Car And Got Down To About Irene Hill Place (Where She Was Living And Marshall Came Running Out Of The House With A .22 Rifle In His Hand And Got By A Tree In The Front Yard And Propped Up The Rifle And Aimed Down The Road At The Old Man But Did Not Shoot. That Was The Same Rifle We Used To Hunt Rabbits And Armadillos At Night To Supplement What Mama Had Canned During The Summer Time. Well The Old Man Went On And Came Back Just About Dark And Had The .32 Belgian Pistol That Cecil Rogers Had Brought Back For World War Ii In His Right Hip Pocket And Was Strutting Around Like A Banty Rooster. That Night After They Got Into Bed (Both Marshall And Durwin) And Started Arguing Back And Forth And Finally There Was A Rush Of People Getting Out Of Bed And The Old Man Shot Marshall One Time With The .32 Pistol And Marshall Dropped The Flat Iron And The Knife He Had In His Hand And Feel To The Floor Dead. Then They Began The Usual Things, Like Bail Bonds And We Left For West Texas As Soon As He Got Out On Bail Because I Was Down Town And They Were Talking And I Said Something About The Old Man Having The Gun In His Pocket And Mama Said “Do You Want Him To Have To Go To The Pen” And When He Left For West Texas, I Had To Go As Well. We Went To Brownsville Texas On Two Different Occasions To Visit Him When We Still Lived In Universal City Texas And He Lived In A Trailer House There. I Went With Him To Old Mexico Where He Went To Boy'S Town (Where The Whores Lived) And Talked With An Old Gal For A Little While And I Don'T Know Whether He Fucked Her Or Not And Then We Went To The Beach And Went Fishing. The Whole Family Went And Tammy Was Laying On Our Air Mattress And A Red Fish That We Had Caught By Wading Out Into The Water Fell On The Mattress With Her And She Abandoned Ship. There Was Also A Lot Of Jelly Fish That Had Floated Ashore. We Caught Lots Of Fish, Sometimes Two At A Time And Used Shrimp For Bait. They Are Extremely Good Eating And We Carried Three Ice Chests Full Home With Us. He Then Brought Us One That Weighted About 10 Or 12 Pounds And We Froze It And Then Ate It Bit By Bit. It Was Good As Any Fish I Have Ever Eaten. This Old Man Of Mine Was At Odds With His Father And Finally Ended Up Killing His Own Brother (Marshall Rogers) In Later Years After World War Ii. He Was A Truck Driver And Wandered Over The Country Until He Finally Had To Retire And Go On Social Security And Finally Died In 1980 (October). He Was At That Time Living In Brownsville Texas And Spent All His Time On The Beach. He Never Done To Much For Me Except Adopt Me So I Could Get My Children Back From England. He Was A Top Notch Truck Driver And I Suspect He Spend His Whole Life Playing The Field. 14This Man Was Always More Generous To People Who He Picked Up On The Side Of The Road That He Was Too Blood Relatives. His Number One Objective Was To Fuck The Females And To Hell With The Males. He Was Married Three Or Four Times And Each Time He Spent All His Money On The Current Wives Relatives. He Sold His Part Of The Royalty He Was Getting Off Mama Old Place To His Sister For A Set Of New Tires. The Amount Of Money He Was Getting Had Probably Decreased In Cash Value By The Time He Done This. His Daughter Patsy Pearl Rogers Was Extremely Unhappy Because He Took This Action And Blamed Sister For It, But I Notice She Called Sister When She Was Getting Ready To Die And Did Not Call Me. I Can Honestly Say That I Done More For Her Than She Ever Done For Me. Notes For Effie May Singletary: Effie May Singletary Was The Daughter Of Mollie Lee And George Singletary. She Was Previously (Or Rather Married) And Had A Daughter Of That Union. The She Started Living With Henry Durwin Rogers And I Was A Product Of That Union. I Was Adopted By My Father When I Was In England At Raf Mildenhall In The 1950S (The Later Part) As That Was The Only I Could Get The Kids (Jim And Vickie) Back To The United States. Effie May Singletary Effie May Singletary Was The Mother Of Billie Singletary And Durwin Ray Rogers And When Durwin Ray Rogers Was Borned On Either May 18, 1934, Or May 22, 1934 Whichever It Was. The Court Records In Henderson Texas Say May 18, 1934, But The Birth Certificate Mama Got For Me Says May 22, 1934. About Three (3) Days After I Was Born She Died And The Cause Was Called Uremic Poisoning And She Is Buried In The Cemetery At Tatum Texas. There Is No Marker. I Finally Found Out Where She Was Buried A Few Years Ago And It Was By The You Son Of Dave Singletary And Jinny Singletary Who Was Riding On Dave'S Old Log Truck And I Suspect He Was Drunk, But Anyway He Fell Of And Was Run Over And Killed As A Youngster About Six Or Seven Year Of Age. Dave And Jinny Lived A Small One Room Shack Outside Of Tatum Texas Off Highway 43. It’D Had A Door In Front And One In The Back And A Window In Each End And One On Each Side. According To Dave My Mother (His Sister) Was Quite A Rounder And Was Not Above Taking A Gun To You If You Got On Her Bad Side Or If She Felt Threatened And That Also Applied To Her Father (My Grandfather) George Singletary. Both Of Dave'S Other Kids Were Both Idiots. One, He Oldest Was Blind And Not Too Far From Being An Idiot And The Other One Was A Blithering Idiot But Could See A Little Bit. I Think Their Problems Stemmed From Old Dave And Jinny Having Syphilis In Their Younger Years. The One Who Got Killed Was The Only One Who Had Good Sense And Could See. Vi. Marion Alec Rogers, B. February 15, 1915, Tatum Texas; D. May 04, 1984, Carthage Texas; M. Doris Willard Rocquemore, December 1939, Beckville Texas. Notes For Marion Alec Rogers: 3 Marion Rogers, Just After Him And Doris Rocquemore Got Married, Was A Whiskey Drinker And Use To Tie On Some Good Ones. One Night I Remember His Coming Into Mama’S House And Doris And Sandra Were Already There, So I Guess He Was Between Jobs Or Something. He Was Drunk As A Lord And They Went Out To The Car And I Supposed He Had Puked All Over Himself So Mama Told Doris To Get A Wet Rag And She Got One Of Sandra’S Wet Diapers To Wash Him With And Mama Got Hot Under The Collar. Right After That He Got Drunk Again And Had A Car Wreck On The Last Big Curve Out Of Beckville Texas And Just Before You Get To The Rock Hill Cutoff Where Roy Vice Lived After Texas Utilities Bought Him Out. The Wreck Nearly Killed Him And If He Ever Drank Anything After That I Was Never Aware Of It. Later On He Lived About A Half Mile Down The Road, Up To The Left On Top Of A Hill Not To Far From The Fire Lookout Tower And I Had To Drive His Cows From Over On The Other Side Of Beckville To His New House, On Foot And It Took The Biggest Part Of The Day To Accomplish. But Then Me And I Had Old Boot’S (My Faithful Old Part Fiste, And Part Collie Dog) To Help Me And We Could Drive Cows Just About Anywhere We Wanted To. Notes For Doris Willard Rocquemore: Doris Rocquemore Was All Ways Off Just A Little Bit Mentally And So Was Her Sister Ruby. One Of The Quickest Way To Get Mama On The War Path Was To Say Anthing About Doris. She Would Tell You Quick To Just Be Quite That Doris Was Not Right. By That She Meant Mentally But She Would Never Say More Than Than. Vii. Mildred Jewel Rogers, B. February 14, 1918, Texas; M. Lee Wilkerson, February 04, 1934, Beckville Texas. Viii. Cecil Hebert. Daniel BOWLES b.1818 in TN (believe it was Greene Co.) married Mary Ann STINSON in 1837 in Green Co., TN. The family moved at some point to Pine Grove, Willowsprings, MO. Daniel's second wife was Amanda Caroline DOCKENS also of TN. She died in West Plains, MO. Their son James Daniel BOLES(the spelling was changed somewhere in the 1850's married Mary Permelia GREEN born in MO but her ancestors also were from Greene Co., TN. I have 3 generations further back but there has been some disagreements as to whether they belong to out line and until that is resolved I don't include them. James Daniel Boles was a circuit rider for the Methodist Epis. Church South. James sister, Joann Boles married Levin Alexander Green brother to Mary Permelia Green.

HARMON, SEWELL posted by Cherie Harmon on Tuesday, July 29, 1997

Have you looked for your SEWELL family in Wilson county TN? They are there very early (and surrounding counties) I have found a tie to the Seawell's mentioned in the 5 volumes of VA Genealogies that condenses the the first series of William & Mary Quarterlies. There are indications in the Wilson Co. records that other Seawells (part of the same family) are living in neighboring counties also. Wilson Co. was formed in 1806 and had a lot of out migration very early. Cherie HARMON Chharmon@manti.com

I see that you have MORROW lines. Would these be the same Morrows from the Maury/Giles TN area? I have a John Daniel Morrow that married a Mary Naomi Wilcoxen on 12 Sep 1844 in Maury Co. TN. Her gg grandmother (Elizabeth Wilcocksen CUTBIRTH) was a niece of Daniel BOONE. I also have some other Morrows, past and present. These are not my direct lines, just "cousins" to my Cutbirth lines. If these are not of your family, feel free to post this info on your Morrow list.

BOWERS posted by Lee Ripperger on Tuesday, July 29, 1997

I am looking for information on a Jacob BOWERS, born 1797, who lived in Greene County, Tennessee, according to the 1850 census. He had a son named Abraham, who moved to Missouri, and according to the Mo. Census Records, Abraham indicated his parents were born in VA one place, and another place I have found them to indicate N. Carolina, so am not sure of Jacob's birthplace, but believe it to be VA. He was married to Mary ? and I do not have a birthdate for her. Their children were shown at that time (1850 census) as Abraham age 22, Henrietta, age 18, Sara age 14, and Jacob D. age 12. I do not know if there were any other children that might have been older and out on their own at this time. I have found several Jacob Bowers in Virginia census records, but none with the same birth year or even within a year or so. Can anyone help me with information going back on these people? Abraham came to Missouri and my husband's mother was a descendant of him, a couple of generations down the line. If anyone in Tennessee, Virginia or North Carolina can be of help, I would greatly appreciate any information you have. There was a Jacob Bowers history in the Library of Congress; however, it was not on the shelf at the time I was there, so I was unable to check it out. Thanks for any assistance anyone can render.

Since I've been trying to put all the WILLIAMS that appear in the 1850 census of Wilson into families -- to try and decide which are mine -- I'll try and take a stab at this one. There is not an Asa listed in the 1850 census of Wilson nor in Wilson Co. Marriages to 1850. Nor in the index to Wills & Admins 1802 - 1861. There is a Abel (my relative) amos, Argus, Arnis, Arthur, Ashkenay in Mds. A.L., Able, Argalus in Wills & Admins. Ashkinaz, Andrew, Anderson S. in 1850 Census. Abel and Amos in early Deeds. In a Davidson Co, TN family a Amos & Aquilla. This does not mean your Asa was not there. I corresponded recently with a man who had an Abraham b 1813. He is not listed in any above named indexes yet definately was from a Wilson Co. family. Wilson was formed in 1806 and had alot of out migration in the 1820-1840s. My Williams were in Shop Springs -- Cherry Creek -- some migrated over to DeKalb & Smith lots went west to Weakley and surrounding counties. From there to Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Mo. etc. Elizabeth of course is very common. I really need more info to help you. Even the first names of children and grandchildren could help. Also if you will go to the library and look in the Wilson Co., TN books by Edyth Rucker Whitley and Thomas E.Partlow you would probably see things I do not (You are familiar with your family -- I am not) Another good source is Sistler & Sistler's: Middle Tn Marriages. There are other early counties with lots of Williams. Williamson Co., Sumner Co. and Maury happen to have a Nathaniel Williams that might tie to my family. My grandfather, Samuel Mac BILLINGSLEY, operated a general store and post office in a community named Blanche presumably not far from Dora, Ozark County, in about the 1900-1919 time-frame. It has always been said in the family that he named Blanche after his wife, but we have no record now of a wife with such name. Does anyone have information about the community? It could possibly have been just over the county line in Douglas county

CASTLEMAN, FUNDERBURG posted by Ann Marie Rogers on Tuesday, July 29, 1997

I am searching for any information about JOHN WILBUR CASTLEMAN. I was told that there were several CASTLEMAN surnames in Dent County and surrounding area. John Wilbur Castleman's daughter, Nora Ellen, is still living. She is 97 years old and wants to know something about her father, especially where and when he was born and died and any other information that might be available. In 1899 John Wilbur Castleman married Clara Ellen Funderburg (Funderburgh) in Doublas County. The marriage license stated that John Wilbur Castleman was over 21, born in Missouri and that Clara Ellen Funderburg was 18 and born in Missouri. John Wilbur Castleman left Clara Ellen FUNDERBURG Castleman prior to the birth of their first and only child, Nora Ellen, who was born 18 June 1900. John wilbur was an itinerant laborer/carpenter, who was older than his wife Clara Ellen Funderburg. They lived with Clara Ellen's parents who were elderly. When John Wilbur Castleman decided to move on, he wanted Clara Ellen to go with him, but she decided to stay and care for her elderly parents. John Wilbur Castleman wrote one time to inquire about the birth, but the wife Clara Ellen, never replied. Clara Ellen Funderburg Casstleman decided to remarry about 7 or 8 years later and at that time divorced John Wilbur Castleman. It is not known whether he knew or did not know about the divorce. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Time may be running short for John Wilbur Castleman's daughter, Nora Ellen. Thank you.

BARNHART, BUTLER, CATTRON, COWAN, DAVIS, HOPPAS, KENNELL, KIRKPATRICK, KIRPATRICK, MCGEE, SANDLIN, YATES posted by Linda Mondy on Thursday, July 31, 1997

I have discovered new information about my KIRPATRICK line. If anyone has more information or can tie into this line, I'd like to hear from them. I'm quoting from a newspaper article published in by Cletis R. Ellinghouse, editor of the Puxico Press: Kime's most prominent citizen for many years was arguably Wayne County Court Judge James Kirpatrick Sr. (1804-1867), a native of South Carolina who arrived in the neighborhood from Tennessee in 1831 with his family, which included his father, Samuel Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatrick's discoveries at Kime were obviously favorable, for he was joined in Wayne County six years later by his brother Francis Kirkpatrick. But after the de3ath of his wife, Francis Kirpatrick moved to Scott County along with his father. Not long thereafter the father, grandson of an immigrant from Ireland, made the long journey from Scott County to visit his son in Wayne County and died there. Despite the sadness associated with the deaths among family members, Mr. Kirkpatrick's early years at Kime were filled with achievement and emolument. The record is sufficient to instill the certainty he was possessed of a keen interest in his government and the developing enterprises that abounded across the wooded hills and valleys he came to love. A Justice of the Peace as early as 1837, sheriff and collector some time later, a member of the administrative county court for three terms, his record would nevertheless be incomplete without a reference to the good workds carried on by his family at Oak Grove Baptist Church after his death at Kime. His wife and the mother of his children was South Carolina native Mary (KENNELL) Kirkpatrick (1802-1871), whose name is the first to appear on a roster of members in the church record. The names of descendants and kinsmen of James and Mary Kirpatrick found on the membership listings of Oak Grove Baptist Church for the years 1870-1888 offter compelling evidence of the family's Wayne County heritage. Andrew J. Kirkpatrick, a son who served as the church sexton, on several committees and helped to build the Oak Grove church house in 1884 and 1885. Sarah E. Kirkpatrick, the wife of Andrew J. Kirkpatrick. Franklin "Frank" Kirkpatrick, a grandson who was baptized in 1873, served on many committees, was a deacon, helped build the church sanctuary, and expressed great concern about members signing a dram shop petition. He was probably the son of andrew J. Kirpatrick from a previous marriage but documentation is missing. Eliza Kirkpatrick, the wife of Frank Kirkpatrick. Charles L. Kirkpatrick, a grandson. Elected a deacon in 1885, the name appears in 1884 and 1885 only. He was a son of Andrew J. Kirkpatrick. James F. Kirpatrick, a grandson. He was a son of andrew J. Kirkpatrick and donated labor to build the new church house. Zerilda (KIRKPATRICK)(SANDLIN) BUTLER, a daughter. After the death of her first husband, Hardy SANDLIN, she was remarried to George Washington Hampton BUTLER. Mary (Kirkpatrick) DAVIS, a daughter whose husband was Francis M. DAVIS, a verteran of Union Army service. Her father-in-law, William Armstrong DAVIS, was the first postmaster at Lost Creek in 1875. Wallis Kirkpatrick, a son who was a Union Army soldier, the long time church clerk, and the leader in the struggle to erect the new Oak Grove sanctuary. Missouri Ann (BARNHART) Kirkpatrick, the first wife of Wallis Kirkpatrick and a daughter of Henry B. Barnhart. Eleanor Ann "Nellie" (MCGEE) (COWAN) KIRKPATRICK, the second wife of Wallis Kirkpatrick, the church treasurer, and a daughter of Thomas Jefferson McGee, the first of the McGees for whom McGee was named. Viola F. (Kirkpatrick) YATES, a granddaughter and the wife of Jim Yates. Her father was Wallis Kirkpatrick. Minerva (Kirkpatrick) HOPPAS, a daughter and wife of the Rev. Z. Alexander Hoppas, one of the pastors of Oak Grove. James Kirpatrick Jr., a son. He was a church deacon, association messenger, moderator at times, one of the leaders in the church. Sarah Jane Kirkpatrick, the wife of james Kirpatrick Jr. Mary (CATTRON) Morgan, a granddaughter who spent the remaining years of her childhood in the home of her grandparents at Kime after the death during the Civil War of her parents, Socrates and Musedorum (Kirkpatrick) Cattron. She and her husband later moved into the log home of the Cattrons on Otter Creek. It was her place of birth and where she spent the rest of her days. She, her father and Grandfather Jacob Cattron all died there. Charles Morgan, the husband of mary (Cattron) Morgan, a church deacon and association messenger who was called upon many times to take on leadership responsibilities. James A. Kirkpatrick, a grandson whose death is recorded Aug. 26, 1873. His father, Samuel Kirpatrick, was a Union Army sergeant. Mollie Kirkpatrick, a granddaughter whose father was Samuel Kirkpatrick. Others in the family were surely members in the years after 1888. ("Kirkpatrick Family was Prominent in Kime Community" by Cletis R. Ellinghouse, Editor, Puxico Press. Based on the papers of Rev. H. Y. Mabrey) *Kime, Missouri. Linda Mondy 15395 Slab Springs Dr. Licking, Missouri 65542 U.S.A. 573-674-3798

Two were born in Missouri Andrew J. born 1856 and Elizabeth born 1859. Asa went into the Civil War (Company A. Fourth Missouri Calvary) from Dallas County Missouri. (I have his service records). I do not know what happened to Catherine Neese, but he married Luisa Kee, on October 21, 1869 in Dallas County MO. He later moved to Bourbon County Kansas. Where would I obtain marriage/birth/death certificates for Dallas county? What cemetery's would be in that area??? One of Asa's sons is the father of Bert MACKLIN and Art Asher (twins). But I have lost the connection from Asa to them. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Sue in CA
