Research Note: Cassville Republican, Cassville, August 7, 1913 - Washburn News: Died Wednesday July 30th, D. Bolin of heart failure. Mr. Bolin was at his work making ties and died suddenly. He was buried Saturday at Truelove grave yard. One brother came from Old Mexico to attend the funeral. Other relatives came but we failed to get their names. Mr. Bolin leaves an invalid wife and three daughters to mourn his death. - Wayne News: While making ties last Wednesday, Dave Bolin fell dead near the old Martin place, one mile from Wayne. His remains were taken to his home at Washburn and were laid to rest in the Truelove Cemetery Saturday. He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn their loss. Research Note: Cassville Democrat, April 7, 1923 - Mrs. Adelia Francis Cooper was born in Grafton, IL, March 8, 1861 and was married to C. A. Cooper Nov. 30, 1878, and to this union was born eight children, three sons and five girls. Her husband precedent to the better world, Oct. 23, 1919. She united with the Christian Church in 1914 and was a faithful member until her death. She died April 1, 1923, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Beecher Antle near Exeter. Rev. Research Note: Cassville Democrat, Feb. 16, 1907 - Mathew B. Durham Dead - Death has claimed another old time citizen of this county, in the person of Mat. Durham, who died at his home in Washburn, Feb. 8th, 1907, age 57 years of a complication troubles, with his kidneys and rheumatism. He was a son of the late James M. and Margaret (Hubbert) Durham, highly respected citizens of this county, during life, and was born March 30th 1850, on Washburn Prairie, where he lived all his life. He left a wife, two sons three sisters and three brothers to mourn his death. For many years he had been a member of the C.P. church and Rev. E. W. Love conducted funeral services at the Truelove church, Sunday afternoon, amide very large number of relatives, friends and neighbors. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Society and was laid to rest with their honors. Many years ago he was assessor of Barry county and made a very good citizen and never harmed anybody, besides he had the respect and confidence of all. Everet Edens, age 23, married Sallie Reed, age 18, on July 9, 1908 in Exeter, Barry Co., MO. - Obit - The people of Washburn were grieved by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Evert Edens at their home in the west part of town, on Thursday morning June 13, 1912. Mrs. Edens had been sick for several weeks and everything was done for her that medical skill and care of the loving relatives and friends could do and death came as a relief from long suffering. She was 22 years old and was a daughter of Andy Reed who formerly lived near Wayne and now of Oklahoma. She leaves one little boy, Manord about 4 years old. The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Charles Welch of the M.E. Church South and the remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon in the Truelove cemetery north of town. Erwin married Rachel Weston Sept. 15, 1853 in Barry Co., MO. - 1870 Census has Joshua Erwin, age 42; Rachel, age 32; Isaac, age 14; William, age 12; James, age 8; Sarah, age 7; Mercy, age 2. - Joshua served in the Confederate Army. Both Rachel and Joshua died from small pox. - Phyllis' notes: It is told that Joshua and Rachel had just bought property in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas and were getting ready to leave for Texas when they came down with small pox. - Linda Barbee Wilhite notes: The family information I have is that Joshua and Rachel both died of Small Pox epidemic in 1873. Their home had been used as a Hospital for it was the largest in the area. Beverly's Note: Informant on his death was Noah Erwin, Exeter, MO. He was 87 years, 4 Months and 16 days of age. He was married to Bartie. Bartie passed away Feb. 1943, Barry Co., MO. - He first married Mary Jane Rogers, Feb. 27, 1878 in Barry Co., MO, and she was born Mar. 6, 1856. Sam second married Missouri E. Morgan on Oct. 10, 1886 in Barry County. Samuel E. Erwin, age 40, third married Bartie Roach, age 30, on Jan. 11, 1891 in Barry Co., MO. - Effie Erwin Attwell Scrapbook - S. E. Erwin was born in East Tenn., June 11, 1849. Died at his home near Exeter, Mo., Oct. 27, 1936, at the age of eighty-seven years, five months, and sixteen days. He was the son of the late William S. and Betsy Ann (Catron) Erwin. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Rogers, 1877. To this union three children were born, Lilburn, Gilbert and Gertie. His wife passed away April 30, 1885. Later, he was united in marriage to Missouri Morgan 1888. To this union one child was born, W. M. Erwin. After the death of his second wife, he was united in marriage to Bartie Roach in 1891. To this union two children were born, Noah B. Erwin and Mrs. Nellie Luckey. While never uniting with any church, he expressed his hope in the Lord. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Lilburn, Monroe and Noah, and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Lucky, one brother W. H. Erwin of Powell, Mo., two sisters, Tilday of Calif., and Mrs. Nannie Weatherly of Exeter, Mo., and nine grand children and many other relatives and host of friends. Her first husband, Newton Lee, was killed during the Civil War. After this time she underwent all the hardships incident to war times, trying single handed to care for her children. Her name was said to be Winterbottom. - Cassville Democrat, Oct. 22, 1927 - Mrs. Fannie Hickman, former old time and highly respected citizen of the Washburn community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Hood, at Blackwell, Okla., last Wednesday. Mrs. Hickman was born near London, England. And came to the United States in 1865 and first settled in Illinois, going from there to Ft. Scott, Kansas. She was married to Oliver Hickman at Girard Kan., in 1873 and came to Barry county in 1891, where she resided until she went to Oklahoma, a few years ago to reside with her daughter. Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1902. She was 73 years old and had been a member of the Methodist church many years. Funeral services were held at Washburn, Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McNabb, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Truelove cemetery, under direction of Horine's Funeral Service. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Mamie Hood, of Blackwell, who faithfully attended her during her sickness, and one son, Will of near Washburn. Her son Orlando was killed in the world war and went down with the transport ship Ticonderoga on September 30, 1919. She also leaves 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and one brother, Jas. Les was an inspiration to all with his work ethic, strong determination, and humor. Visits from Les' granddaughter, Tiffany and her dog, Elvis brought him laughter and comfort. Les enjoyed old tv series, a good western movie, and listening to classic Country Music. He always looked forward to attending the annual Hickman Family Reunion. Hooten of Exeter, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Democrat, Aug. 23, 1929 - Willis Davis Hooten, son of Emanuel and Elizabeth Hooten, was born January 28, 1840, died Aug. 14, 1929 age 89 years, 6 months and 17 days. He was married to Mary Ann Davis, Feb. 28, 1863. She preceded him in death seven years ago. To this union seven children were born, six of who survive home. Mrs. Elizabeth Reed preceded him in death eleven years ago. He leaves to mourn his death, six children, who are: Arthur, Joe and George of Exeter, Mo., Mrs. Laura Carney and U.H. Hooten of Collinsville, Tex., and Mrs. Adeline Rose of Odell, Ark., also three brothers, Geo. Of Haberton, Ark., John of Winslow, Ark., and Isaac of Fairland, Okla. Two sisters, Jane Hooten of Martinsville, Ind., and Mrs. Sarah Taylor of Green Castle, Ind. Also 43 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. Mr. Hooten was converted at an early age and united with the Exeter Baptist church, a number of years ago. He enlisted during the Civil War in the 59th Ind. Volunteer Infantry and served two years and 10 months. Funeral services were conducted at the True Love church on Wednesday afternoon. Aug. 14, by Rev. Chas Vanzandt.
