Wife of John Otho Franklin Beasley. - April 7, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Local And Personal: We hear that Mrs. J. O. F. Beasley has moved from Pierce City to Monett and will conduct a rooming house there. - Monett Times, April 13, 1923 - MONETT WOMAN DIES SUDDENLY - Mrs. Debbie Beasley Dies of Heart Trouble Monday Evening, Funeral at Exeter - Mrs. Debbie Beasley, age 60 years, who had conducted a rooming house at 300 Sixth street in Monett for several years, died suddenly about 7:45 o'clock Monday evening of heart trouble. She had been apparently in good health and her death came as a great shock to her family and friends. The body was taken to Pierce City Monday night. Mrs. Beasley had decided to give up the rooming house business and to return to her old home in Pierce City. Nearly all her goods had been taken to Pierce City on Monday. That evening she sat down to rest at the rooming house and complained that she was tired. Without warning she pitched forward in her chair and died immediately. Her family were widely scattered. Her son Burton was on his way to North Carolina and a message reached him, but John Beasley, who had recently gone to Canada to take a position, has not been reached up to this time. The other children were notified and came immediately. The family has lived at Exeter, Ritchey, Pierce City and Monett and is well known in Barry and Lawrence counties. Mr. Beasley died several years ago. The children surviving the parents are Ollie Beasley, Tulsa, Okla. Mrs. E. C. Chumbley, Pierce City; Mrs. Exie Short, Pierce City; Mrs. W. E. Wallace, Hugo, Okla; Mrs. O. A. Jackson, Springfield; Mrs. C. E. Woolsey, of Monett and Coralee, John and Burton Beasley, who lived with their mother. Four children have died. Mrs. Beasley is also survived by four step-children, one of whom is Mrs. A. A. Adams, of Monett. She leaves four brothers - Harve, Parker and Bob Doyle, of Exeter and Arnold Doyle, of Purdy. The funeral will be held at Exeter, but the time cannot be decided until word is received from the children who are away from home. Mrs. Beasley was a good Christian woman, every energetic and capable. He first married Sarah Ashby, second wife was Debby Doyel. The obit says he was buried in Maplewood Cemetery but that is incorrect. - John Otho F. Beasley, married Sarah A. Ashby on Oct. 25, 1870 in Hopkins Co., KY. According to the 1910 Census, Hopkins Co., KY, Sarah is divorced and living with her son Daniel. Beasley, head, age 61, married twice, 32 years in present marriage, born NC, merchant; Debby, wife, age 46, married once for 32 years, mother of 12 children, 8 living, born KY; Eva, daughter, age 18, born MO; Zena, daughter, age 16, born MO; Cora L., daughter, age 15, born MO; Bessie, daughter, age 12, born MO; John, son, age 9, born MO; Burton, son, age 7, born MO. - February 1, 1917, Cassville Republican - J. O. F. Beasley for many years a resident of Exeter but who has been living in Pierce City for several years died Tuesday night, Jan. 23, age about 68 years. Mr. Beasley was stricken with a liver trouble about two years ago and had never regained his health. His last illness extended over a period of six days. Mr. Beasley was born in North Carolina and came to Exeter many years ago and was in the mercantile business there until he moved to Pierce City. He is survived by his wife and several children. Beasley, 68 years old, who died at 8 o'clock Tuesday night in the veterans hospital in Oklahoma City, will be at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the First Baptist church, Exeter. The Rev. Homer Weaver will officiate. Burial will be in the family cemetery, near Exeter. The family will receive friends from 7:30 until 8:30 o'clock tonight at the Ozark funeral home. Born January 14, 1900, at Exeter, Mo., Mr. Beasley had been a resident of this area most of his life. He was a member of the Baptist church. He was a retired farmer. Research Note: Waunita Mae Freeman, age 24, married John T. Beasley, age 58, on Oct. 5, 1959 in Anderson, McDonald Co., MO. - Waunita was born on May 15, 1935 in Jane, Missouri, one of six children born to the late Orval E. Hanson and Ola Grace (Howell) Hanson. She was a lifelong area resident of McDonald County. In 1961 she was united in marriage to John Thornton "Jack" Beasley and he preceded her in 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack T. Beasley; three grandchildren, Louis Dale Freeman, II, Courtney Paul Smith and Kendale Bowers; and five siblings. Waunita is survived by three sons, surname Freeman; three daughters; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. She married Elijah Asbury Catron. - Notes from Stephen Synder: Lythia Jane was crippled in her right arm, caught in their old grist mill she attended. Daughter Martha heard her screams, and shut down the mill in time to save her life. That was before Lula was born. She was bed ridden the last two years of her life, She was 49 yrs at death. - Elijah was the son of William Elijah and Catherine (Smith) Catron. He fought in the Civil War. Later he was married to Lithea Jane Edens. He had a little Store and made shoes on the bank of the river. He had a grist mill and a little farm on bench land where their children were born. They were the parents of: George Riley Catron; Martha Jane Catron Fields; Flora Dora Catron Dillion Erwin; Laura Cora Laney; Ella Elvira Catron Starnes Kelleher; James Elbert Catron; Mary Ann Catron; William Isham Catron; Andrew Jefferson Catron; Worley Jackson "Jack" Catron; and Lula Eythel Catron HasHagen Cress. After the Civil War his mill was burned 3 times, so Elijah and wife Lytha Jane decided to leave Hancock County, TN. They moved to Barry County, Missouri where they both had brother's living. They were only there a few years before Litha died in 1904. His death certificate has that he died on the 15th. It gives Oct. 15, 1847 as his birth date. The obit has June 17, 1846 and that he was age 70 years, 10 months and 15 days old at the time of his death, which makes the 1846 the correct date. It reads that his father was Perry Coats, born TN and his mother Louise Rash, born in AL. His wife was Sarah. - Cassville Democrat, April 21, 1917 - John Coats died at his home in Exeter, Saturday night of bright's disease, age 70 years; 10 months and a few days. Funeral services were held Sunday and interment was made in Crow Pond Cemetery near that place. He was a Federal veteran of the civil war. He had been a member of some church. - John Wilson Coats was born in Polk County, Mo., June 17, 1846 and died April 16, 1917, age 70 years, 10 months and 16 days. Feb. 15, 1872 he and Miss Sarah E. Smith were married and ten children were born of this marriage, of which nine survive the father, six sons and three daughters, two brothers and three sisters; Mrs. Emma Byers of Duneweg and Mrs. Joshua Hamilton of Aurora, his sisters were with him when death came. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas. Searcy on Feb. 19, 1899 in Barry Co., MO. - February 26, 1914, Cassville Republican - Exeter News: The accident which, befell Mrs. W. B. Searcy some days ago when she sustained broken limb proved fatal on Saturday morning, Feb 21, 1914. Mrs. W. B. Searcy until her marriage to W. B. Searcy about fifteen years ago was the wife and widow of the late I. J. Doyel. She came to this county from Benton County, Ark., some 35 years ago, and had lived in and near Exeter since coming to this county. In her death the husband has lost a faithful wife, the children a devoted mother and the Baptist Church of which she was a member, a faithful sister. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. M. Smith of Exeter assisted by Rev. Hodge of Washburn. The large number of friends who gathered to pay their last respects to this estimable lady packed the church to its fullest seating capacity and standing room. - Same paper: Obituary: A mother in Israel has been called from labor to reward. Sister Mary Elizabeth Morrison, died Feb. 21, 1914, at Exeter, age 79 years, 2 months and 15 days. She was born in Hardin County, KY, Dec 6, 1834. In November 1862 she was married to I. J. Doyel, who died Nov 7, 1895. To this union were born eight children, seven boys and one girl, five of whom are living. They are: Robert, Harvey, Arnold, Packer, and Mrs. Bensley of Peirce [Pierce] city, all of whom were present at the time of death, and rendered great love and sympathy to the dear mother during her sickness and death. She was converted at the age of thirteen yeas and united with the Baptist Church and lived a consistent Christian life. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church at Exeter. Two unusual things were connected with her marriage and funeral. First, she and her second husband, W. B. Searcy, were born the same day of the same month and year. Second, a song composed by W. B. Searcy and titled "The Home Beyond" was sung at the funeral service. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Revs. M. Smith and P. M. Hodge by her special request, in the presence of a large crowd of neighbors and friends. - Monett Times, February 26, 1914 - Mrs. W. B. Searcy, of Exeter, died Saturday, February 14, of injuries received when she fell some time ago and broke a hip. She was 79 years old. Funeral services were held at Exeter, Sunday, at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. M. Smith, of Exeter, assisted by Rev. Hodge, of Washburn. She was married twice, the first time to I. L. Doyel, who died in 1895. She was married to W. B. Searcy fifteen years ago. She leaves five children - Robert, Harvey, Arnold and Parker Doyel and Mrs. J. O. F. Beasley, of Pierce City. Research Note: Entered from findagrave.com. Minerva Jane Wells was the daughter of Josiah Wells and Elmira (Almira) Trail. She married her first cousin Perry Wells on April 22, 1866 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Perry and Minerva had eleven known children, William Woodruff Wells, Mary Virginia Wells, Dana Vesta Wells, Treacy Florence Wells, Daniel Benton Wells, Sarah Frances (Wells) VanZant, James Wesley Haggard Wells, Reuben Josiah Wells, Albert Austin Wells and Charles Ewing Wells. Perry is buried at Bald Knob Cemetery in Boone Co., AR. born Aug. 1, 1837 in Lincoln Co., TN and died Jan. 17, 1917 in Boone Co., AR. - These notes are from findagrave by Sonja Bedwell: Born in Norris Creek (Bellville), Lincoln County, Tennessee, Perry Wells was the son of William Benjamin Wells and Treasa (Treasy) O'Quinn (Quinn). He married his first cousin Minerva Jane Wells in Lincoln County on 22 April 1866. Minerva was the daughter of Josiah Wells and Elmira (Almira) Trail. Perry and Minerva were the parents of eleven known children: William Walter Woodruff Wells, Mary Virginia Wells, Dana Vesta Wells, Treacy Florence Wells, Minerva Elizina Wells (Mrs. Charles Julius Dorbecker), Daniel Benton Wells, Sarah Francis Wells (Mrs. Christopher Columbus VanZant), James Wesley Haggard Wells, Josiah Wells, Albert Austin Wells and Charles Ewing Wells. On Mar. 4, 1897 he moved from Exeter Missouri to Rally Hill, Boone County, Arkansas. While in Exeter, Perry Wells lived on a farm north of the Maplewood Cemetery. He gifted the first land for this cemetery to the Exeter community. Perry and his brother Charles Wells served in Company G, 36th Arkansas Infantry, CSA. A search of their CSA records reveals nothing unusual. Their father William Benjamin Wells also served in the Civil War. He served in Company D, 5th Missouri Infantry. He was given a disability discharge in December 1862. It is probable he died in Mississippi shortly thereafter. Perry Wells responded to a questionnaire from the State of Arkansas which was intended to take a census of Confederate veterans living in Arkansas. The information submitted was in Perry Wells own words. This is the text in its entirety: "Wells, Perry, of Valley Springs, Arkansas, was born Aug. 1, 1837, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, the son of William Wells, who was the son of Thomas and Anny Wells." My father was William Wells born in Indiana. My mother's maiden name was Trecy Quin, born in Surry County, North Carolina" Subject was a farmer, democrat, Cumberland Presbyterian, and Odd Fellow. (no military data recorded). Married Minerva Jane Wells, daughter Of Josiah and Almira Wells of Shelton County, Tennessee on April 22, 1866, in Lincoln County Tenn. Children 1.
