Lowe married Catherine Cates on May 15, 1879 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, July 15, 1915 - Butterfield News: Mrs. Catherine Lowe took sick Thursday morning of last week and died Saturday morning with some thing like congestion of the stomach. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. W. Ennes who paid a beautiful tribute to womanhood in his talk from the text "She has done what she could". The church was crowded and there were very few dry eyes in the audience. Interment was made in Russell Cemetery beside her husband who died several years ago. Amanda Lowe of Exeter, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Obit: - James Calvin Lowe has passed away. Mr. Lowe was next oldest of a family of 6 children of Minnie Wilson and Aaron Lowe, only brother F. M. Lowe of Butterfield is left. He was converted at the age of 18 years and united with the Baptist church. He felt his call to the ministry and a burden for the lost. Truly he died in the triumphs of a living faith. When a young man he moved to St. Genevieve, Mo. where he was married, 25 Dec 1873, to Miss Ellen Alden, who died a few years later leaving a little daughter, Martha Ellen. He was married again to Miss Amanda Lee, 18 Aug 1876. To this union were born 8 children, 2 dying in infancy (Francis Myrtle and Rose Bell) and 2 in young manhood (James Elbert 'Bert' and Joseph Jeremiah). Those left to mourn their loss are his wife and children - namely: Mrs. Mattie Mason of Long Beach, CA, Mrs. Meda Turner, Tulsa, OK, Mrs. Fannie Bradley of Exeter, Mrs. Mollie Pilant, Cassville, and Harvey of Lamar, CO. Beside these, 30 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, plus a host of friends and other relatives mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church in Cassville by Elder J. T. Brattin. A large crowd was present except Mrs. Walter Mason of Long Beach, CA. Interment was made in the Russell cemetery near Shady Grove schoolhouse. - October 9, 1909, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Jas. C. Research Note: Son of James Calvin Lowe and Amanda Caroline Lee. His wife was Alpharetta Belle "Fay" Phillips. - Cassville Republican, Dec. 5, 1918 - Joe Lowe died at the home of his parents in Cassville Friday afternoon, November 29, following an illness of about ten days of influenza. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ed. Chappell, and interment made in the Russell Cemetery northeast of Cassville. Joe J. Lowe was the oldest living son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lowe of this city. He was born near Cassville Sept. 13, 1891. He lived nearly all of his life in this community and was a young man of excellent Christian character. He was married to Miss Faye Phillips of Hailey, March 8, 1914. To them two children were born, one having died in infancy. Survived by his wife, a little eighteen months old son, father and mother, four sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Mattie Mason of Loveland, Colo., Mrs. Media Turner of Granby, Mrs. Fannie Bradley of Durant, Okla., and Mrs. Mollie Pilant of Cassville. The only brother is Harvey Lowe of near Cassville. Joe was a member of the Baptist Church and an exemplary young man. He had been assisting county assessor Haddock in McDonald township when he took ill and never reached home, coming by Cassville he took his bed at his father's where he died. - November 21, 1912, Thursday, Cassville Republican - County Court Proceedings: Joe J. Research Note: Son of Owen George Mahaffey and Lois Ethel Talbot. Jake joined the National Guard in 1940. The next year he was called into Federal Service and later that year he married Theresa Gigoux. In 1942, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Signal Corp and led his Signal Company through the European Campaign and was awarded a Bronze Star. In 1950, Jake was again called into Federal Service to serve in the Korean War, where, as a Captain, he was awarded the First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Bronze Star. In 1970, Jake and Tess moved to Exeter, Missouri to return to farming. He raised cattle, sheep and hogs. In 1980, he became a Licensed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. In 2002, he graduated from Crowder College earning an AAS degree in Small Business Administration graduating with Highest Honors. In 2009, Jake celebrated his 90th birthday. SSW: Emma J. - Research Note: Ernest Moudy of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Obit: - Anderson Monroe Moudy son of Silas and Martha (Roller) Moudy, was born on October 7, 1880 at Seligman, Mo., and departed from this life on October 8, 1970 at his home in Purdy, Mo., at the age of 90 years and 1 day. On November 18, 1903, he was united in marriage with Emma Jane Hazelwood, who preceded him in death. To this union were born ten children, two of them (Flora and Richard Elree) preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, three sons and five daughters; 42 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Brother Moudy was a member of the Church of God Holiness congregation at the Log Church, and was faithful to the church so long as the condition of his health permitted. He will always be remembered by his prayers and testimonies. He supported the cause of true Bible holiness and though he was not able to come under the tabernacle for the camp meeting in July, 1970, his son brought him, and he enjoyed the service while sitting in the car. His funeral service was conducted by the writer on October 11 at Log Church, using as a text Rev. 14:6-13. Mrs. Moudy was born Aug. 15, 1884, at Hampton, Neb. She had lived in Purdy most of her life and was a member of the Log Church, near Purdy. She and her husband, A.M. Moudy, had been married 62 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Ernest, Cassville, Leslie, Riverside, California, and William, Monett; five daughters, Mrs. Erval Nickle and Mrs. Manford Terry, both of Purdy; Mrs. Loren Ash, Ava, Mo.; Mrs. Albert Dugan, Salinas, Calif., and Mrs. William Patton, Monett; a brother, Frank Hazelwood, Granby; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Moudy, Butterfield, Mo., and Misses Jewell and Ida Hazelwood, both of Cassville; 42 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Log Church. Survivors include: his mother and father, Teresa and Karroll Boxley, of Cassville; a daughter, two brothers, both of Cassville; three sisters, all of Cassville; and two grandmothers, Sharon Sparks, of Cassville, and Fern Boxley, of Washburn. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Sparks and Glenn Boxley. He grew up in Cassville and graduated from Cassville High School with the class of 2004. He continued his education to become a mechanic at UTI in Chicago, IL. Following his graduation, he returned to Barry County and was a mechanic at The Compound Auto in Marionville at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Logan Lawrence will conduct the services. Research Note: Helen J. (Hilburn) Staponski's obit in the Cassville Democrat reads that she was age 64, and of Monett when she died. She passed away Friday, March 14, 2008, in Monett Health Care Center, Monett. She was born July 24, 1943, in Butterfield, the daughter of William H. and Lona M. (Richardson) Hilburn. On Jan. 10, 1975, in Mt. Vernon, she was united in marriage to Johnny Staponski, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Larry Gastorf, and two brothers, Charles and Samuel Hilburn. Survivors include: four daughters, 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Lakey, Rhoda Balch and Linda Coones, all of Cassville; and seven brothers, Jim Hilburn, of Exeter, Ralph Hilburn, Clyde Hilburn and Wayne Hilburn, all of Cassville, John Hilburn, of Wyandotte, Okla., Harvey Hilburn, of Winslow, Ark., and Jerry Hilburn, of Cassville. She received her education at Butterfield and moved to Oregon, where she lived for awhile. From Oregon, she moved to Monett, living there several years. In 1986, she moved to Cassville, where she remained until four years ago, when she entered Monett Health Care. She had been a cook for Fasco and also the Rainbow Motel for several years. Funeral services were held Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Charles Lauderdale conducted the services. He had resided in Miami for the past two years. Spending 58 years of his life in Cassville, Mo. he served two terms there as a circuit clerk for Barry Co. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include three daughters, three sons, 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Friday morning at the Lane chapel with the Rev. C. D. Walker, pastor of the Miami First Christian church officiating. A second service will be held at 2 pm Friday afternoon at the Union Chapel in Butterfield, MO. She was born in CO where she lived until her parents returned to this county about 14 years ago. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." - Research Note: Death certificate gives her parents as Benjamin Franklin and Susan (Woods) Bridges. Her father was born in IL and her mother was born in Lawrence Co., MO. She died of typhoid fever. David A. Utter married Sarah Ann Bridges on July 18, 1883 in Newton Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, Nov. 7, 1912 - Mrs. Sarah A. Utter died at her home northwest of town, Friday evening, November 1, age 51 years, 5 months and 10 days. Her death was due to typhoid fever and complication of diseases. Mrs. Utter was born in Lawrence County, near Pierce City, May 15, 1861 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Bridges, highly respected citizens of that county. She was married to D. A. Utter in 1893 and to this union were born seven children. Mrs. Utter was a good Christian woman and a kind and loving mother whose influence was always for good. The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. Research Note: All of the information I have here is on the cemetery page except for his place of birth and death place. Here is additional information on him. His father was William James Wall and his mother was Loraine Jane Boren, both born in UT. Clifford married Ruby Catherine Allmon in 1946 in Sacramento, CA. She died in CA in 1995. She was from Barry Co., MO. He was my 2nd cousin. - Note at findagrave.com: Ruby was first married to John Lindsey Wright and to that union was born one son, Wallace Burton Wright. John died in 1956. Ruby later married Clifford Wall who died in 1972 when they lived in Missouri. Clifford is buried in Russell Cemetery at Butterfield, Barry Co., Missouri. He began his career in sales and management at Pepsi-Cola at the age of sixteen. During his 26 years of service to Pepsi, he received six awards for top sales manager. He moved to the Barry County area in 1994. He was united in marriage to his best friend and love of his life, Rose Van Sandt. Together they owned and operated a lawn mowing business for eight years.
