S. Stribling entertained ten of his grandchildren one day last week, among them was Master Norman Jackson a great grandchild. Mr. Stribling was assisted by Mabel Stribling, 10 years old. After dinner the remainder of the day was spent with games on the lawn. The little folks thanked their grandfather very kindly for the good time he gave them. - Same Paper: B. S. Stribling is confined to his home by an attack of bronchitis. - Cassville Republican, Nov. 27, 1919 - A. C. Branch of Buffalo, Okla., is visiting his uncle, B. S. Stribling, and looking for a location. He raised 5,000 bushels of Wheat this year but says the season there is very uncertain. - Carolyn Leonard's notes: - Son of George W. Stribling and Elizabeth (Williams) Lyrick. Bradford S. Stribling was just seven years old when his father, a circuit riding Methodist preacher in Illinois, died. In 1860 he is living with his mother, three younger sisters and two younger half brothers. Bradford is the oldest at 19 and was probably supporting the family. In 1862 the war broke out and he joined the 111 Reg. IL ll Inf. Co. K with his brother in law, Samuel C. Branch and other Marion county boys. He also married Dorcas Elizabeth Alexander January 16, 1862 in Marion County, Illinois. After the war he operated an ice cream parlor for a time in Springfield MO. His daughter Cora was born in Bellefonte, Arkansas, in 1871, and not long after that Bradford decided to relocate the family to Missouri. 1887: Bradford S. Stribling bought 93 acres land in Barry Co. Jan. 4, 1887 from Missouri Land Co. of Scotland for $466.05 in Section 6 T25 R26W. (Section 6 is 4 miles E of Monett.) He sold 40 acres for $300 a few months later. 1899: Barry County Sunday School Association - One of the most pleasant incidents of the convention occurred Sunday morning at the Sunday school at the M. E. Church. The superintendent of the school, W. I. I. Morrow and Mr. B. S. Stribling, our newly elected President, knew each other nineteen years ago (1880?) at "Gad Fly," now Corsicana. Missouri. Mr. Morrow was a merchant and Mr. Stribling a photographer. A lasting friendship was then formed, but strange to say, they had never met again until last Sunday morning. Both at that time were men of the world (age 30?) Now both are earnest, zealous Christians. These facts were brought out in brief talks at the Sunday School, and the effect on all who witnessed the scene and heard. He and Cora had six children of their own, but often took in others. For instance Edna, who came on one of the orphan trains and stayed with them until she married. Also Bradford's orphaned niece and nephew, Mable and Alpha Branch, lived with the Striblings on the farm for a time. | Online Newspapers 1890 Vet. Callaway was the undertaker. - Obit: Dorcas E. Alexander was born 16 July 16, 1844 in Marion Co, Illinois and died at her home on King's Prairie, Barry Co., MO, Jan. 2, 1917. She was married to B. S. Stribling Jan. 16, 1862. To this union were born six children. Three remain and were at her bedside: E. R. "Elby" Stribling, Mrs. Cora Carter and Mrs. May Jackson. Two children, Erastus Bradford and Sidney, died as infants. Ella Pearly Stribling O'Neil died age 25. Mrs. Stribling professed faith in early life. She united with the New Liberty class of the Methodist Protestant church of Kings Prairie 35 years ago and remained faithful to her church and her God until death. For twelve years she was teacher of the Primary class in the New Liberty Sunday School and some of her first students now have homes of their own. Her greatest desire was to plead with the unsaved to get right with God. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother. For two and a half years she suffered all that the human body could bear, yet she bore it all with patience. Her body lies under the shadow of the old church that will stand as a living monument to her faithful work. She leaves three children who did all that children could do for a dear mother and a husband who was so attentive all through her long suffering, to mourn her departure. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Combs and Goodnight Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 12 o'clock, with a very large and sympathetic congregation. But mother has gone to dwell above where there is no pain but all is love, for she heard those welcome words to come and she has been a faithful one. May we so live while below that when from earth we are called to go, we will rest again in her embrace and see our mother face to face. In the passing out of this life from time to eternity this has been a life well spent in the service of her Maker. She began her Christian work early in youth and for almost forty years has been a member of the New Liberty Methodist Protestant church on Kings prairie and remained faithful to her church until death. For many years she was teacher of the primary class in the Sunday school, many of which have grown up to have homes of their own. But today her body lies under the shadow of the old church that she raised almost every dollar to build and that will stand as a living monument to her faithful work while it was her great desire to see souls saved. Yet she was one among the most devoted mothers that ever lived. She gathered her children as a hen gathereth her brood. | Death Certificate Phyllis Long Obit Carolyn Leonard Photo Donna Cooper |
