June 18, 1911 Barry Co., MO |
SSW: Manervia A. - Research Note: Son of John Henderson and Polly Thomas. He first married Elizabeth Ragsdale. His second wife was Manervia Ann Dodge. - Pleasant was a farmer, son of John Henderson. He was 82 years, 6 months, and 9 days old when he died. A. M. Henderson of Monett, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - From the "Book Our Heritage in Story and Picture: Purdy, Mo. 1881-1981" - The name Henderson has been a part of the history of Barry County for approximately one hundred and forty years. The story began with three brothers -- Pleasant, and Andrew and Marion, who were twins. They were born in Graves Co., KY the sons of John Henderson and Polly Thomas. John Henderson's grandfather, Samuel Henderson, was born in NC in 1746. He moved to Warren Co., TN, where he was married to Alice Robard, later moving to KY. After the death of their father, Pleasant, Andrew, and Marion came to MO with an aunt and uncle while they were still boys and settled first near Forsyth and later came to Barry Co. They settled along and near Little Flat Creek which is SE of Monett and NE of Purdy. After growing to manhood, each of the three married, established families, and lived the rest of their lives in that general area, as do many of their descendants at this time. (It goes on to say that "This account will deal primarily with the family of Marion Henderson and their youngest son, Calvin. History of the families of Andrew and Pleasant Henderson were not available to this writer.) - From the Book "Early Barry County" by Addah Longley Matthews: Like many other Barry Co. families, history of the Henderson and Fly family date back to early days of the county, when pioneering was a part of daily living. John Henderson and wife Polly Thomas were born in the early 1800's in Graves Co., KY. They were parents of 3 sons: Pleasant P., Andrew J., and Francis Marion; the latter two were twins. After the death of John Henderson, Polly and sons came with her brother, James Thomas, to MO and settled near Forsythe, then later moved to Barry Co., settling on a farm near what is now Monett. Mrs. Henderson and sons lived with her brother until she married a Mr. Stone. Later on she married William Morlan. They were parents of a daughter, Sarah. In time, Polly's oldest son, Pleasant Henderson, married and was the father of two sons, James and John, and a daughter Mary, who later married a Mr. Marshall. After the death of his first wife, Pleasant married a second time and fathered 4 children.
