Darla Marbut shared this: "An old story goes, that it was such a bad winter in 1854 when several of the Munsey children died, and the ground was frozen so hard that they couldn't dig graves. So the Munsey family put all 5 of the Munsey children's bodies in the smoke house until they could bury them. Some years later Charles Munsey deeded the land for a school and cemetery, which is where Munsey Cemetery is located today."

Donna Cooper added: "Charles decided the Munsey name should be spelled Muncey and so that is why the school had that spelling and not the Munsey spelling that had traditionally been recorded for them in Barry County."

Charles Albert "Bud" Munsey gave the land for the Munsey School and Cemetery Dec 8, 1883, Section 6, T 21 R 26.
