She lived in northern California for a few years before moving to Golden, where she, her husband, and brother Winfred purchased what is now the Ball and Prier Store. They owned and operated the store for 31 years, where she was the bookkeeper. Research Note: He was the son of Norman Finas and Maude Mae (Bradford) Ball. On February 28, 1967 in Kansas City, Kansas he was united in marriage to Charlene "Joy" Hoke. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Glenna Carson and Freda Northington and one grandson, Tyler Ball. Dwayne grew up in Eagle Rock. After graduating from Cassville High School in 1962 he attended Draughon Business College. From November 7, 1963 until November 5, 1965 he served in the United States Army as Military Police. Upon returning, he moved to Kansas City and was employed by the Kansas City Police Department for five years. There he met the love of his life, Joy. In 1971 they moved to Texas where he became a State Trooper, returning to Eagle Rock in 1984. Before retiring he was employed by Walmart in the security department. Varl was drafted into the United States Marines and served from 1952 until 1954, in Barstow, California. On June 27, 1954, he married Ilene Comstock in Barstow, California and then they came back to Eagle Rock, Missouri to farm. After a few years, they both felt God was calling them into the Gospel ministry and enrolled in Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri in 1956. He then attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He went on to Golden Gate Baptist Seminary in California. Before Varl went to Golden Gate in California, his home church, Roaring River Baptist Church wanted to honor him by ordaining him. This was uncommon to do this before having a pastorate and it meant a lot to Varl and Ilene. He attended Sacramento State College to obtain a teaching certificate and taught at Valley View Elementary for three years, a small county school outside of Auburn, California. He was privileged to pastor the following churches, Rock Creek Baptist Church in Auburn, California, First Baptist Church in Carrizozo, New Mexico, First Baptist Church in Hermitage, Missouri, Roaring River Baptist Church in Eagle Rock, Missouri, (This was his home church where he attended growing up and he told the Lord that he would never pastor in his home church but he did.), Myrtle Avenue Baptist Church in Eureka, California, Olive Point in Urbana, Missouri, First Baptist Church in Crocker, Missouri, Rock Springs Baptist Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where his grandpa Carter pastured and preached at the turn of the century, and was assistant Pastor at Roaring River Baptist Church in Eagle Rock, Missouri. Research Note: She was the daughter of Robert Duane and Georgia (Stringer) Jones. She graduated in 1991 from Union High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and subsequently received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree with magna cum laude honors from Missouri State University in 2015. On September 4, 2010, Tracy was united in marriage to Caleb Buntin at the First Baptist Church in Cassville. Being a teacher was the perfect job for her; she taught 5th and 6th grade science at Purdy Middle School until she became ill. Tracy enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers; she also volunteered her time as a cheer coach for Upward, and went on mission trips to McPherson Womans' Prison and Cornerstone Transition House, both in Newport, Arkansas, to witness to women and tell of God's wondrous works. Tracy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville, where she taught 5th and 6th grade Sunday school, helped in the nursery and with the Single Moms' Study Group. Research Note: Thursday, Sept. 28, 1899, Cassville Republican - Eagle Rock News: Thursday, Ara, son of Bill Burris, left home to go to Marion Goodings to see about getting a cane mill to make molasses. On his way there, or back, he got hurt and was found late in the evening by Jake Burris. The boy was almost lifeless and could not tell how he was hurt but died a few moments later, after his father and mother were summoned. Investigation proved that he had climbed a hickory tree and a limb had broken with him letting him fall a distance of about 40 feet striking on a solid rock. He was interred Friday evening at the Munsey Cemetery. - Ara who died from the fall from a tree is probably Harvey Burris, son of William "Bill" Henry Burris and his wife Deborah Jane Garner. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Patricia Curry at St. Elizabeth's Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Chandler was an industrial engineer for most of his career, working for Emerson Electric in Rogers, Arkansas, Prestolite Motors in Wagoner, Oklahoma, and Fasco Industries in Nixa and in Cassville. In his retirement, he was a rancher and developed a herd of Red Angus cattle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Hathcoat, and three grandchildren. Cornell, who died at his home near Eagle Rock, Friday night, was 81 years old was also one of the county's old time and honorable citizens. He had suffered from heart trouble several months and was a patient sufferer. He leaves four children to mourn his passing, who are: Clark of Eagle Rock, Troy and Roy of Seligman, and a daughter, Flossie, who lives in Oklahoma. All of the children attended him during his closing days. His excellent wife preceded him in death 28 years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Haddock at the Munsey church, Sunday afternoon, after which interment was made in the cemetery there under direction of the Koon Funeral Service. The Hopkins family furnished music at the services. This splendid character had lived in that section many years and had many friends. Parents William and Rachel Curry. - July 13, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - B. F. Curry was born in Newton County, MO, Dec. 22, 1837. Died July 6th, 1907, aged 69 years, 6 months, and 13 days. His father married the widow Brown and moved to Barry County when Frank was seven years old, settling on the old Curry farm on White River, where Frank grew to manhood and has been a resident of Barry County, continuously since, and a resident of Roaring River township except two years from 73 to 77 when he resided on Amos Horner's farm near Cassville. He enlisted Sept 15, 1863, in Co. E, 2nd, Regiment Arkansas Cavalry Volunteers. Was discharged on account of disability, May 30, 1865, returned to the old home devastated by the ravages of war, with his step-mother and three half-brothers; his father, two own brothers and one sister died during the war. He married Martha Horner, Jan. 19, 1870, to whom, was born five children, William, living in Idaho, Charles near Eagle Rock, Albert and Robert in Nebraska and Mary wife of Geo. Skelton of Eagle Rock. His wife died Jan. 19, 1882 and he was married to Martha Skelton November 9, 1883 to whom was born two children, Josephine, wife of Finis Easley and Christopher who died Nov. 6, 1887. On July 1, 1939, in Cassville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Davis, who preceded her in death on May 2, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Gene, Gaylord, Verle and Brice Burnette and one sister, Maxine Blythe. Lorene, as most people knew her, received her education at Washburn. Soon after their marriage, she and Lawrence moved to California, remaining there thirty-seven years. In 1975 they returned to Missouri and resided in Eagle Rock until 1994. They moved to Kansas and in 2009 Lorene returned to Eagle Rock to make her home. She attended Roaring River Baptist Church at Eagle Rock. John Franklin Davis, Jr., married Laura Wallen Dec. 25, 1898. Their children were: Florence (Mrs. E. W. Turner), Floyd Edward, Archie m. Leona Stubblefield, Isobele, Lawrence, and Nancy Alice m. S. E. Roark. - John F. Davis, son of John and Betty Davis, was born at Washburn on Jan. 10, 1873 and passed away on Nov. 23, 1956 at the age of 83 years, ten months and 23 days. He was united in marriage to Laura Wallen on December 25, 1898. Mrs. Davis preceded him in death on September 22, 1916. To this union six children were born. One son, Floyd Edward Davis, preceded him in death on September 22, 1902. Weaver Dead: Uncle John Weaver died Monday night, Sept 23, 1907, after a long and painful illness, stretching and painful illness through many years. Ever since he came out of the army he has been practically an invalid. No one who saw him shaking with palsy, will forget the old gentle man, and how patiently and cheerfully he bore it all. His intelligence in matters in general and in religion in particular made him an interesting man to talk to and be with. He reached the advanced age of 72 years, six months and fourteen days, was a soldier and drew a large pension. Mrs. Burkhart of Joplin, and Mrs. Jack Smith, daughters, with his wife, were at the funeral, yesterday, at his late residence. Eld. Prewitt officiating. A couple of Mormon Elders were also present, the friends of Mrs. Weaver, who also assisted in the services. The interment was in Maple Park. Old comrades of the Grand Army acted as pall bearers - Aurora Argus. Mr. Weaver was a resident of this city several years ago and moved from this place to Aurora where he has since resided. He was a graduate of Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and attended Oklahoma State University. He had worked in sales and sales management and purchased Eagle Rock Landing in 1975. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was active in the Springfield Chess Club. He married Haupt Mayo on June 21, 1977, and she preceded him in death in 1998. Survivors include one brother, Oklahoma; two sisters, Idaho and of Oklahoma; two step-sons, of Eagle Rock and of Springfield; two step-daughters, of Cassville, MO and of Alabama; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Edwards; and two step-sons, Paul Mayo and Charles Mayo. Graveside services were 11 a.m. today, May 18, at Munsey Cemetery in Eagle Rock with Rev. Freddy was a member of the Masonic Lodge #601, York Rite, and the Alhambra Shrine Temple all of Chattanooga Tennessee. Freddy, who was known as "The Beaumont Flyer" and "The Bayou Bandit" was a well-known race car driver who started racing at the age of fourteen. He won over 826 features throughout his career including winning the Snowball Derby in 1979 and 1981. Freddy retired from racing in 1987; subsequently he became crew chief for various race teams including Seal Tech Racing, Jack Rousch Racing, Richard Petty Racing, and Spears Motor Sports Racing. He was inducted into the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Hall of Fame, Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, Nashville Tennessee Racing Hall of Fame, and The Ozark Racing Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
