USGenWeb / MOGenWeb
Project
|
Since moving to the new web server on MOGENWEB.ORG, the FreeFind search engine is the only one working. Other options may be available in the future. Some of the searches listed below may work while some may not. Many of the Missouri USGenWeb sites have moved from Rootsweb. |
NOTE: The purpose of this page is to present all possible search options that will enable you to find any (all) Lincoln County data that may reside on any (all) of the USGenWeb databases and/or RootsWeb databases or on their servers. Use the following search engines or see "More Info...More Options...".
~ To focus your search on this
Lincoln County site ~ (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol/
|
Currently, most of the Lincoln County data resides on our Lincoln County site at (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol) and will be retrieved by using Option 1. However, other pertinent data may also reside in one or more other USGenWeb databases on another RootsWeb server, i.e., in the archives, on the GenConnect system, in mail list notes, or on someone's RootsWeb homepage. Since, one search engine won't retrieve all data everywhere, the options below present some other searches you may want to try.
[PLEASE NOTE: This page is a work in progress. As such, the options listed are those currently known by the page author, and the examples shown are but a sampling of possibilities. Other options are being added to the list and examples added and/or modified almost daily.]

researchers, not queries, not data, etc. Enter surnames you are researching, then see who

them on our Lincoln County Surname Page.)

Examples Option 1 - Using Lincoln County search engine:NOTE: Searches are not case-sensitive - Match = ALL Match = ANY Match = BOOLEAN Format = LONG Format = SHORT |
OPTION 1 ~ SEARCH ENGINE FORM
Use this form to search all Lincoln County pages.
Lincoln County Queries posted since March 30, 1999 do not reside in the actual Lincoln County pages database. To search them, use one of the following choices for Option 2.
GenConnect Index for all messages:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Lincoln
Surname Index page generated from surnames entered on Query Page:
http://surhelp-bin.rootsweb.com/surindx.pl?gc=/USA/Mo/Lincoln
Search Engine for surnames entered on Query Page (Surname Helper):
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp-bin/srchsite.pl?gc=/USA/Mo/Lincoln
As it pertains to GenConnect, the data comes from the messages on the GenConnect boards.
Surname Helper indexes the surnames contained in the surname field of each and every post,
and then stores a list of which queries the surnames belong to so that you can look up a
surname and get hotlinks to the queries themselves.
Option 3: Search the archive of
messages for MOLINCOL Mailing List for 1998 and/or 1999.
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=molincol
This option searches all mail notes that were posted to the Lincoln County mail list. Searches one year at a time, for either 1998 or 1999.
Examples Option 3:
|
Option 4: Search the USGenWeb Archives
URL for the Table of Contents: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/lincoln/lincoln.htm
This is the HTML page with a listing of all the material in the USGenWeb Archives for
Lincoln County, Missouri. From here, you can select to read specific documents in
text format.
URL for the Search Engine: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm
Searches one state at a time, so you must select a state in which to search.
The page has search tips on how to configure your search query to get the type of results
you want. Read the search tips and look at the examples on the page. Use enough
"operators" to turn up the type of records you want.
Example Option 4 - search for Lincoln County persons:
This is only one example. There are many more ways to state your query and use this search engine. Be sure to read the search tips and look at the examples on the page of the search engine URL. |
Option 5: Search data in all
indexed sites on RootsWeb
URL for the search engine: http://seeker.rootsweb.com/search.html
Configure your query statement the same as the examples in Option 1 above. (Our Lincoln County search engine uses a county "subset" of this larger "United-States-wide" database.) To limit your search to data pertaining to Lincoln County, include the word "LINCOLN" and "MISSOURI" in your search statement.
Examples for using RootsWeb search engine:NOTE: Searches are not case-sensitive - Match = ALL Match = ANY Match = BOOLEAN Format = LONG Format = SHORT |
Option 6: Search the RootsWeb
Surname List or RSL.
http://rsl.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/rslsql.cgi
These are now on the GenConnect system. You have to register your surnames to get on the surname list. (Surnames you've entered in the "surname field" on the Lincoln County Queries Page are automatically added to this list.) The RSL, or RootsWeb Surname List, now contains more than half a million surnames submitted by over 60,000 Internet genealogists. This probably makes it the largest cooperative genealogical effort on the net, in terms of participation.
Option 7: Search GenConnect
All Entries
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi?search
Search an entire country or the entire world for your surnames. If any queries containing your surname exist, they will be listed by Country, State, then County order. Retrieves information from all GenConnect entries all over the world. This search engine only searches queries in the GenConnect System. It does not search those counties or states not online with this system. Indexed weekly.
NOTE: As near as I can determine, it appears pages may be indexed by GenSeeker about once a month. It takes more recent entries a while before they appear in search results. Pages are indexed by FreeFind more frequently and may turn up a greater number of matches.
