Miss Rebecca Ann Shannon, died May 11 1880. She was born December 3rd, 1848. Her constitution was naturally strong; for more than two years it resisted a malignant pulmonary disease. She made a public profession of faith at Mt. Zion, Mo. She had a clear, practical knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus. The last few months of her illness were particularly trying. She manifested a high degree of Christian patience, meekness, and resignation. Her friends have good reason to believe her death was the last step to a glorious immortality. "Dear in God's sight is the death of his saints."

Contributor's Note: Rebecca Ann was the fourth of six children of John A. R. Shannon and Elizabeth McCampbell. As a young woman, Rebecca and her sisters, Mary Jane Shannon (later to be Mrs. Salem Reid) (see her obituary) and Elizabeth Shannon (later to be Mrs. Thomas Reid (see her obituary) made a quilt together which was kept and cherished by Elizabeth (my great grandmother). That quilt has passed through the generations and is now in my possession).
