Some background on Clarence Cannon and these manuscripts:
Clarence Andrew Cannon, a Congressional Representative from Missouri; born in Elsberry, Lincoln County, Mo., April 11, 1879. Cannon served in the US Congress from 1923 until his death in 1964.
See the entry on him in the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.
In the late 1950's Cannon compiled 8 manuscripts containing what he could gather of the histories of several prominent Lincoln County families. The following files are the result of locating and scanning either the manuscripts themselves or copies of the manuscripts found in public libraries. These files were provided by Mike Vollmer, who hunted down a copy of each of the full set of manuscripts. Our thanks go to Mike for the effort he put into collecting the complete set.
To read these files you will need to use Adobe Reader, which you can download here. Note: these files are large, ranging from 1 to 15 MB in size.
If you would like to search the raw OCR (Optical Character Recognition) files corresponding to these manuscripts, you can find them on this page.
In addition, the last set of files, containing an annotated copy of The Cannon Book, was provided by Dennis Fogleman, a descendent of Samuel Cannon. Thanks, Dennis, for submitting this manuscript with your own annotations.
To read Dennis's files you will need a copy of Microsoft Word Reader, which you can download here. These files are searchable.
