Early Grundy County, MO court records (starting around 1841-1846) have been largely unavailable or destroyed by historical fires. However, recent restoration projects have sought to recover damaged documents.
1882 Courthouse Fire: A fire in 1882 destroyed a significant portion of the early court records.
Recent Restoration: According to a report from April 2026, members of the Grundy County Historical Society and volunteers have been working to restore "burnt records" found in the courthouse, including locating divorces, property cases, and other documents that remained readable despite damage. See Addresses page (under 'Home' topnav) for contact information.
