Feb. 11, 1920 Barry Co., MO |
Research Note: His death certificate reads that his father was William Hamilton, born in MO and his mother was Rebecca Wilcox, born in MO. He was single and a farmer. O. E. Hamilton (brother Otha) of Seligman gave the information. - Cassville Democrat, Saturday, Feb. 14, 1920 - Pascall Hamilton Dead: The sad news came to this city, Wednesday morning that Paschal Hamilton had died that morning at the Hamilton home in Blockade Hollow of pneumonia, aged about 40 years. He was a splendid gentleman and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He leaves one brother, Otha, and four sisters, Mrs. S. P. Price of this city, and Misses Demah, Nannie and Neva. He was a member of the Seligman Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. W. Love of Joplin, Thursday, and interment made in the Seligman Cemetery with Masonic honors. While the Masons were arranging to leave the Hamilton home with the remains of Paschal for interment, his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Hamilton, died at about 2 p.m. of heart failure and other complications. Funeral was held on Friday Feb. 13, at the home and interment was made in Seligman Cemetery. - Cassville Democrat, March 13, 1920 - Pascal A. Hamilton, eldest son of William and Rebecca Hamilton, was born near Seligman, Missouri, October 1, 1882. Pascal was apparently a strong stalwart man, weighing about 200 pounds, but he never had been real strong since in early youth, when he had an attack of typhoid fever, which left him not so sound physically as before. When it was learned that the family had an attack of flu we feared for Pascal, and sure enough, with the treacherous disease came several complications, pneumonia being the most pronounced. On the ninth day of his illness, Wednesday, February 11, 1920 at 3:15 a. m. he went to his rest to await the great awakening when the dead in Christ shall rise first. He is survived by four sisters and an only brother. The two brothers were always very much devoted to each other, but since the death of their father they have been almost inseparable. We know all the loved ones miss him but non like the lonely brother; but one by one we shall go to sleep, to await our glad reunion. "Like mother like son" is a saying so true. The world will judge largely of mother by you is very fittingly applied here, for Pascal was also a great home maker and even in his childhood was very devoted to his duties of home, but after the death of the father he assumed the responsibility as head of this family, which he with his brother, faithfully carried to the time of his illness. In his dealing with his fellowman he was devoutly honest, he was very quiet and non-committing, most always devoting his time and thought to that which concerned him and his. But as a neighbor he was at the right time. In his chosen work, agriculture, he had made a grand success. During his illness he was gentle and patient and when rational would try to talk about the most vital points. He would ask about his invalid mother, talk about the business with Otha, expressed his willingness to die to his sister Nannie, by saying "It is not so hard to die after all, only for the suffering," even Jesus dread the pangs of death. He showed forth that spirit of love for his invalid mother, which our Savior showed for his mother when he saw her by the cross and commend her to care of John the beloved, when he said to Otha, "You stay here and take care of Ma." Arrangements had been made for the funeral at the residence but on account of the death of the mother and the serious illness of Neva, was conducted at the Seligman Cemetery by Rev. E. W. Love and the Masonic Lodge. The floral offerings was professed and beautiful a very appropriate offering of the sweetness of nature to one who lived very close to nature. I would not fix my thought and attention on the hard uncouth things which are permitted to come into my life as a necessity for my spiritual development lest become faithless and obscure the Hand of Divine Love which would lift me to himself through them, or lest I shut out the calm, assuring voice which say in the midst of the tempest - Near not it is I and shroud my myself in gloom and despair, but I would look by faith through them to "Him who doth all things well," and say with the Psalm. Blessed be the Lord who daily leadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. | Death Certificate Donna Cooper Photo Deceased Beverly Sweeney Online Newspapers Phyllis Long |
HAMILTON, Rebecca (WILCOX) | Sept. 15, 1853 Lafayette Co., MO |
Feb. 12, 1920 Rural Seligman, Barry Co., MO |
SSW: William - Inscription: "Mother" - Research Note: Wife of William Hamilton. Her death certificate reads that she was a widow, and that her parents were Thomas Wilcox and Louisa Fryer, both born in Georgia. O. E. Hamilton (son Otha) of Seligman gave the information. - Cassville Democrat, March 13, 1920 - Rebecca Wilcox Hamilton was born near Odessa, Lafayette County Missouri, September 15, 1853 went to her rest with those who await God's call in his own, Thursday at 1:15 p.m. February 11, 1920. March 10, 1870 she and William Hamilton were united in marriage. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Lizzie Price of Cassville, a former Barry County teacher, Miss Demmah, a teacher in Monett Public Schools, Miss Nannie who at the time of her mother's death was teaching in the Public School at Seligman, Miss Neva, a teacher also but who at this time had given up her public work to be constantly with her invalid mother, Otha at the death of his father eight years ago gave up his profession as a Public School teacher to assist the brother, Pascal with the agricultural work on the home farm, which he had chosen as his life work. Pascal died about thirty four hours before his mother. She also leaves one grandson Gaylor Price and an only sister, Mrs. Lucy Gilliand. Mrs. Hamilton professed her faith in Christ as her personal savior Dec. 12, 1895 during a revival meeting, which was conducted by Rev. E. W. McCracken at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Washburn. She joined the same church July 4, 1897. She lived a sweet Christian life from the time of her conversion to that of her home going. She was a lady of natural ability for the home making and devoted her time and talent to that art as a result she gave to her family a home so sweet and inviting that the home coming was to them a day of all days. To this world she gave six talented children, so disciplined and trained that they have contributed much to the betterment of humanity. As a neighbor "to know her was to love her." She had been an invalid for three years just previous to her death. Though she had always been so very active with her home duties, she submitted to her work in the home and waited patiently for her Heavenly Father's call until the day when she was told Pascal, her first born son, had died, then she grew impatient for the call so she might go with him and God in his great Love and Wisdom called her and she sweetly fell asleep just as arrangements were being made for the funeral of her son. So death to her was an expected call from her Heavenly Father to leave her playhouse, the world to move from clay tent, the body, to come and dwell in the mansion, which Jesus has gone to prepare for her. An impressive funeral service was conducted by Rev. E. W. Love at the home where she had lived during the past thirty four years. The floral offerings were very beautiful and not only spoke of love for the dead and the sympathy for the living loved ones, but they speak to us of the rapture and shall be theirs and the Beauty that shall be hers as she blossoms forth in the fullness of God in her eternal home. - Cassville Democrat, Saturday, Feb. 28, 1920 - Card of Thanks: We desire to thank our many friends who assisted us during the illness and death of our mother and brother. We also thank the Masonic Lodgers of Seligman, Washburn, Cassville, the O. E. S. of Monett chapter and all other friends for flowers and letters of sympathy. O. E. Hamilton, Demah Hamilton, Nannie Hamilton, Neva Hamilton, Mrs. W. S. Price and family. - Another Stone | Death Certificate Donna Cooper Photo Deceased Beverly Sweeney Online Newspapers Phyllis Long |

He made caskets and his wife Alice made the dresses for the corpse. He and Alice had children Wayne, Chloe, Georgia, Nettie, Leona, Josie and Maynita. Al was a son of Benjamin and Caroline (Kitterman) McCann. - Sharon McCann Note: "The McCann Clan Homestead" - Benjamin, born in Bulter Ohio, and Caroline "Carrie" McCann met and married in Ohio had 5 children, three daughters, Malacy, Ann, and Emma and two sons William "Frank", and Joseph Alpheus "Al" McCann. The McCann clan lived in Ramsey Illinois during the Civil war, and later moved onto Winfield, Kansas before finally settling in Barry County Missouri in a place know then as Sugar Creek that would later be come to know as Seligman Missouri. Benjamin was a carpenter and farmer by trade, and his sons followed in his footsteps building many of the towns buildings, homes and area bridges for the Frisco railroad. Frank married Hattie Beirly and had three children Mildred, Lillian, and Benjamin "Bennie" McCann. Al met and married Alice Yount they had 7 children Josie, Maynita, Lenna, Nettie, Georgia, Chloe and their only son LaVoughn who died in infancy. About the same time as the LaVoughn's death, Lenna who was young gave birth to a son out of wedlock, Wayne L. McCann who was raised as the son of Al and Alice. Al and Alice made their homestead on 200 acres in Seligman on the edge of town and remained there until their deaths. They are buried in Seligman Cemetery with their children Lenna, Maynita, and Georgia Jeff, and her husband George Jeff, and their Grandson Wayne. Frank and Hattie are also buried there along with Benjamin and Caroline. Josie McCann Thompson was buried in Eldorado Kansas. Nettie McCann Payne was buried in Idaho. Chloe McCann Roley was buried near her home in Grants Pass Oregon. Georgia an George owned the family farm until George's death, then Wayne moved from California to help care for the farm. the land was still in Georgia's name and was passed down to her son Charles and his wife Jewel. Once Georgia died, the land was then sold to a developer who had the trees cleared, ponds filled in, and pastures sold off, the remaining land was sectioned off, and is not recognizable due to development. The old homestead built in 1902, burned to the ground around 1984 during a storm. This is the house where I spent the majority of my teenage years, this is where I learned to make homemade butter, to cook on a wood burning stove and to sew clothing on the very treadle machines that my great great great grandmother once sewed the clothes for the burials and weddings in Seligman. You can bet that nearly every time I visit I hug at least one of the trees in the grove of sugar maples that were planted by my great great great grandfather and once stood by the home providing syrup, shade and wind breakage, and still stand strong and proud to this day. - May 6, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Seligman News: We had court here the last of the week, the result was a hung jury.
