Roller, a pioneer citizen of Barry County, passed away at his home between Washburn and Seligman, February 13, 1918, of apoplexy, at the age of 77 years. He was known all over the county by "Pad" Roller. He was a native of Tennessee and came to Barry County when a small boy with his parents who located on the farm where Mr. Roller grew to manhood and on which he continued to live until his death. He was a successful farmer and one of the county's best citizens. He leaves seven children, two sons and five daughters. The children are: General Roller of Lund, Utah; George of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Rebecca Evans, Mrs. Amanda Brown and Mrs. Julia Woodruff of near Washburn, Mrs. Sarah Sanders of Boynton, Okla., and Mrs. Flora Burrows of Marionville. C.S. grew up and received his education at Washburn and attended two years of college. During World War II he joined the United States Navy, serving from January 20, 1943, until January 19, 1946. He was employed at Rockwell International for several years. He worked on rocket engines including all manned Apollo moon shots, B1B Bomber, Space Shuttle and Minute Man Missle. In 1987, he retired from Rockwell as a rocket engine inspector. Upon returning to Joplin he operated Rose's Berry Patch for eleven years. Research Note: Daughter of Charlie Lewis and Anna Ellery "Ann" (Pendergraft) Patterson. With heavy hearts and precious memories we share Carrie's passing. On Jan. 29, 1949 in Pittsburg, Kansas she was united in marriage to C.S. Rose, who preceded her in death on July 23, 2015. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Florence Rose and Gusta Watson and a son-in-law, Walter Preston. Surviving are one son; one daughter; and two grandchildren. Carrie grew up and attended school in Washburn, MO, graduating from Washburn High School. She was employed as an operator by a telephone company for several years. Carrie loved crocheting, gardening, tending to her flowers and traveling. She was a very talented interior decorator and an exceptional seamstress making her daughter's original wedding gown which later won her a fancy sewing machine as her daughter entered the gown in a fashion show. After Carrie and C.S. were married, they lived in 29 different locations mainly due to his job in the aerospace field. They retired to Joplin, MO where they raised blueberries and blackberries and in 1996 returned to Barry County to enjoy life. She was born May 2, 1939 at Washburn, Missouri, the daughter of Lionel and Florence (Patterson) Rose. On March 25, 1955 she was united in marriage to Loyd Shrum and to this union three children were born. Loyd preceded her in death on May 1, 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one grandson, Steven Lee Petty. Surviving are 2 sons and 1 daughter, all of Washburn; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers both of Washburn and one sister of Seneca. Bonnie attended Mission Baptist Church. She attended school at Measel Prairie and Southwest High School. She was a lifelong resident of Barry County, where she and Loyd had a dairy, sawmill and crafts and milked cows for forty-five years. Bonnie loved to go – if anyone called and asked she was ready in five minutes. She loved her children and grandkids and enjoyed watching them play ball. Bonnie would always help anyone. She loved to tease people and be teased. One of her favorite pastimes was fishing. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 27, 2017 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial will be in King Cemetery at Seligman, Missouri. - Personal Note: Bonnie actually died en route to the hospital on Hwy. 90, Washburn, MO. Surviving are two sons; one daughter; one brother; one sister-in-law; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-children; 26 step-grand and step great-grand children. Louise enjoyed baking, gardening, tending to her flowers, sewing, and crocheting. She loved to take care of other people but most of all she loved her family and spending time with them. Research Note: Son of Frank Smith and Laura Husey. Marvin Smith of Manhattan, KS was the informant on the death certificate. It is not known what happened to Frank's father. On August 2, 1885, probably in Kingman, Kingman County, Kansas, his mother Laura married again, this time to widower Thomas Allen Honaker. Frank joined his new step-father's household consisting of his children Emma, Clara, and Aude. As the years passed, Laura and Thomas added their own children to the household, Mollie, Blanche, and Lela. In March 1894, 12-year-old Frank drove the family's small herd of cattle as various family members drove five wagons along side of him to two 160-acre farms near Enid, Oklahoma. In September 1893 his step-father and William Rippey, the husband of his half-sister Emma, had staked their claim on the farms during the Land Run on the Cherokee Strip. He worked with his family to improve the land, build a house, and put in a well. About 1900, Frank moved with his mother and step-father and half-siblings to Shawnee, Oklahoma, where his step-father thought he could make a better living for his family on farmland more like he was accustomed to in Missouri where he had been reared. Frank married Lena Regina Vale, the daughter of Milton Parker Vale and his wife Rosa Belle Waples. He married second Nora Ellen (Mason) Edens, daughter of William James and Mary A. (McClary) Mason. Snodgrass, Confederate. - Caroline's Obit - Cassville Democrat, July 12, 1929 - SELIGMAN WOMAN DIES SUDDENTLY OLD TIME AND HIGHLY RESPECTED CITZEN DROPS DEAD AT SENECA WHILE ON VISIT - Mrs. Caroline Snodgrass an old time and highly respected citizen residing at Seligman, dropped dead Tuesday morning after arising from the breakfast table in Seneca, Mo., where she had gone on a visit with relatives. Mrs. Snodgrass, who is about 85 years old, had accompanied her relative, Orzo Arnold of Seneca to his home for a visit with his family. She apparently was in good health as her death was unexpected. She had not complained of any ailments previous to her untimely passing. Mrs. Snodgrass had lived in the Seligman community many years and was on of the oldest citizens of that section of the county. She leaves several children to mourn her passing. She was an excellent woman and was greatly loved by all her acquaintances. According to the state patrol, Sprinkles was killed when his car failed to make the turn and hit an embankment head on. Capt. J. A. Berlglund, head of the patrol's safety division reported that Sprinkles was the 1000th traffic death for 1956 in the state of Missouri. He was a son of Jake and Faye (Galyen) Sprinkles, and attended the Measles Prairie School. He served in the army from 1950 to 1952, one year of which was spent in Korea.
