Directions: At Golden, MO turn North on J Highway, then turn left on Farm Road 2260 go about half mile until Farm Road 1215 that turns left again. In about 1/10 of mile, look to the left across a pasture where the tree in the picture here can be seen on top of the hill. There is no road or gate and the only way to get to it is to go under a wire fence. The cemetery is not fenced now and is part of a large field.

Old Easley Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Barry Co., MO and was first known as the Hickam Cemetery, then Easley, and finally as Old Easley.

Easley descendant, Darla Marbut added this: According to Virginia DeMarce who is a long time Easley researcher, Jacob Hickam and his family, moved back to Cole Co., MO where he is buried. It was probably named Hickam Prairie because he settled there.

Here are Darla's notes: Because Martha Hickam was born 1850 in Cole Co., MO, it is possible that Jacob did died in Cole Co instead of Barry Co., MO. Virginia DeMarce on page 197: Jacob died 1854 in Cole Co., MO. of a cholera epidemic on a boat from St. Louis, MO to Marion, Cole Co., MO.

Virginia received information on Oct 31, and 17 Nov 1989 from Mrs. Mildred (Hickam) McDow, 2238 Midland Rd., Bay City, MI 48706 a descendent of this line.

Jacob Hickum (Hickam) settled in 1828 on Hickum Prairie, near Golden, MO. The court records indicate that in 1833 the marriage date instead of 1838. Three's and eights can look alike in the old hand writing. As the first child was born in 1839, I expect the 1838 dates is correct.

Jacob had land in Twp 21, Range 25 - as assignee of W.R. McFarland on Section 9 in 1850.

Goodspeed Reprint, page 58: White River Township was detached from Sugar Creek Township in May 1841, and the following described boundaries established: Commencing at the State line, east of John Roller's house, running east of north to Henry Pendergraft's thence to J. J. Davis Mill and thence east to the Taney County line, Charles Haddock's house was the designated place of meeting, and J .J. Davis, Jacob Hickum and Charles Haddock were appointed judges. J. Hickum and Mira Jackson were elected justices of the peace.
