Patton was born in Harden County, Illinois, November 27, 1833 and departed this life September 20, 1929, here in Wheaton at the home of her son, J. E. Bennett. She was 95 years, 9 months and 23 days old. Grandma Bennett, as everyone called her was the oldest person in this community to our knowledge, and possibly the oldest person in South West Mo. She was united in marriage to Joseph C. Bennett at the age of 16. To this union 6 children were born, four of whom have preceded her in death. The two living are, J. E. Bennett and S. P. Bennett of Alluwe, Okla. When she was 18 years old she and her husband moved to Missouri and settled in the Rocky Comfort community and since that time, 77 years ago, she has been a resident of this community. Her husband joined the Confederate Army at the beginning of the Civil War and was captured and held prisoner at Little Rock Arkansas. Just before the war was over Mrs. Bennett received a letter from him stating he would soon come home to his faithful wife and small children. Mrs. Bennett spent many days and nights watching and waiting for her loved one to come home. Mr. Bennett never came home and from that time on she never heard a word from him. It is thought that he was killed by Bushwhackers while making his way back home. She was converted in early life and was united with the Methodist Church South of which body she lived a consistent member until death. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Muncie Chapel by Rev. J. S. McQueen. BRATTIN, Charles Roy | July 24, 1941 Cassville Barry Co., MO |
June 3, 2024 At Home, Cassville, Barry Co., MO |
Research Note: Son of Leo and Dallis (Lane) Brattin. A proud 1959 graduate of Wheaton High School and Valedictorian of his class, Charles embarked on a career with the United States Postal Service, where he dedicated thirty years as a rural route carrier in the communities of Wheaton and Cassville. His commitment and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure along his routes. Charles's sense of community involvement extended to the Cassville Masonic Lodge, where he was an active and respected member. On May 27, 1960, in Wheaton, MO Charles married the love of his life, Carolyn Haynes. Together, they cultivated a family rooted in love and laughter. Though Carolyn predeceased him, their union was blessed with three children who continue to honor his legacy: Tonya Belk and her husband Jerry of Joplin, MO, Tammy Pueppke and her husband Daniel of Cassville, MO and Teresa Stumpff and her husband Donnie of Cassville, MO and one brother, Don Brattin and his wife Geraldine of Aurora, MO. Charles was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Paul Dolis, Tracy Dolis, Trent Pueppke, Dillon Stumpff and his wife Savanna, Parker Stumpff and his wife Ashley, Shania Stehlik and her husband Cody, and he cherished the moments with his eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Haynes) Brattin; one sister, Beverly Riddle; one brother, Robert Lee Brattin and one brother-in-law, Larry Riddle. Charles's enthusiasm for life was evident in his numerous interests. A man of the outdoors, he found solace and excitement in activities like woodworking, fishing, and hunting, with a special passion for quail hunting. His musical talents were a joy to behold, as he skillfully played his guitar and fiddle, often accompanying the melodies with his singing. His love for music was only matched by his devotion to his faith as a member of the Corinth Baptist Church. As we bid farewell to Charles Roy Brattin, we celebrate the remarkable life he led and the countless lives he touched. His spirit, characterized by generosity and a gentle demeanor, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. | Fohn Funeral Home L. Pearce FindaGrave |
