WEATHERLY, William Wright | Feb. 14, 1850 Bradley Co., TN |
Feb. 26, 1916 Joplin, Jasper Co., MO |
SSW: Virginia I. - Research Note: Husband of Virginia I. - William Wright Weatherly, son of Washington Yancey Weatherly and Emily Jane Brannock. Married Virginia I. Barr on Dec. 6, 1874, parents of Gilbert W. - May 22, 1913, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Stony Point News: G. W. and Chas. Weatherly visited their brother, Wright, at Webb City last week. - March 9, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - William Wright Weatherly was born in Bradley County, Tennessee on February 14, 1850, and died at Joplin on February 26, 1916, age 66 years and 12 days. He was the oldest son of Yancy and Emily Jane Weatherly, and was a brother of George, John and Charley Weatherly, and Mrs. Pole Packwood of Exeter, and Mrs. George Holt of Washington and Mrs. Green B. Gregory of Texas. When Wright, as his friends in Barry County knew him, was seven years old, he moved with his parents to Missouri, to the old Weatherly farm 1 1/2 miles west of Exeter where he grew to manhood. On December 6, 1874, he was married to Virginia I. Barr, and from this union was born one child, Gilbert W. In 1898, the family moved to Joplin where they lived at the time of his death. The burial was at Exeter. By his request he was laid among those whom he had known from childhood. By his request the three brothers with two sons of John and Charley Weatherly and Newt Barr, a brother-in-law, acted as pall bearers. The funeral sermon was delivered by the Rev. Nelson A. Shedd, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian church of Joplin, of which he and his family are members. Wright Weatherly was a good man. He lived a life that rings true. While it was not his nature to put himself forward, in his quiet unassuming way, he was always found on the side of right and justice. For half a century, he had been a Christian, and for 42 years he had been a member of the Presbyterian Church. So far as he knew, he wronged no man, and during his last days it was his custom to call the family around him to ask if they knew of anyone whom he had ever wronged of whom he owed so that could make it right. Yes, Wright Weatherly's live was one to live by and die by, a life that gave every hope of a bright beyond. | Online Obit Phyllis Long Photo Fred and Neoma Sherman |
