(Pierre Leopold, son) DeCocq of Purdy, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Wheaton Journal, Mar. 21, 1929 - Farmer Drowns in Water Tank: Leopold J. Decocq, a farmer who lived a mile south of Corsicana, was found drowned in a watering tank early Saturday morning, by his wife and son. The coroner, Floyd Callaway was called but after he had made an investigation, he decided that the man had died from natural causes and a coroner's inquest was unnecessary. Decocq, who was about 64 years old, had been complaining of not feeling well for several days. He is believed to have become dizzy and fallen in the tank. Mr. Decocq went to the barns just about daybreak to feed the stock. He was carrying a lantern. Between the two barns is a big watering tank. Instead of going a longer way and opening a gate to get from one barn to the other, Mr. Decocq had been in a habit of walking the edge of the tank. He is supposed to have become dizzy, lost his balance, and fallen in the tank. He had been there only twenty or thirty minutes when he was found, for his wife and son started to find him when he did not come to the house as promptly as they expected. Leopold J. Decocq was born April 19 (should be 20), 1865 in France, came with his parents to the United States in 1875 and departed this life March 16, 1929 at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 26 days. He was united in marriage Dec. 25, 1890 to Amelia Lucie Mutrux. To this union eight children were born, four of whom are living: Pierre L. and Henry A. of Purdy, Mo. (should be south of Corsicana, Mo.), Mrs. Emma Whipple and Louie G. of Forest City, Mo. His wife preceded him in death July 15 (should be 20), 1911. August 7, 1912 he was united in marriage to Stella F. Trent. To this union five children were born, four of them living: Eunice Leah, William Lafay, Flora Fay, and Tressa Elizabeth, all at home. Besides his wife and children he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Adolph of Rosedale, Ark., Ben H. and Lewis of Little River, Kan., Mrs. Mary Sass, Purdy, Mo., Mrs. Anna Mutrux, Exeter, Mo., and Mrs. Ernest Planchon of Monett, Mo. He also leaves seven grandchildren and other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. He professed his religion early in life and has since lived a devoted life to his family and to his Lord. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon March 18 by Rev. Eddie Freeman at the Mt. Joy Church. Internment was made in the Maddy Cemetery under the direction of Pogue's Undertaking, Wheaton. - DeCocq Family Reunion Photo | Death Certificate Online Obit MO Marriage Records Phyllis Long Photo Donna Cooper |

She had resided in Barry county since about 1865, coming here in the dark and gloomy days of war, she had seen Barry county grow from almost nothing to one of the best sections of this state. She was a sister of Mace Combs of near Purdy, one our oldest citizens, and of the late Wheeling Combs of Butterfield, and Mrs. Thos. Clark of near Pioneer, MO. Rev. Taylor of the Hard Shell Baptist Church, conducted services at the Madry Cemetery near Purdy, where the remains were interred Tuesday. LONG, Simon Hiram | Dec. 1, 1820 | Dec. 21, 1907 | SSW: Tabitha - Research Note: Son of Hiram and Anna (Lakey) Long. He married Martha Tabitha James, September 25, 1842 in Ozark Co., Missouri. - Goodspeed's History: Simeon H. Long , a farmer and a stock raiser of Barry County, Mo was born in Greene County, Indiana in 1820, and is the second child of Hiram and Anna (Lakey) Long. Hiram was born in East Tennessee on May 20, 1796, and was reared on a farm. He emigrated from his native state to Indiana, and was there married on Feb 11, 1814. His wife was born in Ohio on March 19, 1798. They became the parents of eleven children, four of whom are living. Hiram Long came with his family to Missouri in 1834, locating in Ripley County. He afterward removed to Barry County where he was brutally murdered in 1862. During the Civil War he tried hard to remain with his family in peace, taking no part then in the contest between the North and the South. A band of Southern men came to his home and made inquiry as to his principles. Upon finding him a Union man they took him and one of his sons out and shot them. After the murder of his father and brother, Simeon H. Long enlisted in the Federal army, joining the Eighth Missouri Cavalry, with which he served three years, being mustered out of service at Little Rock, Ark., on July 20, 1865. He was paid off at St. Louis the following August. On September 25, 1842, he was united in marriage with Tabitha James, who was born in Indiana on March 15, 1826. Eleven children have been born to them, seven of whom, Serilda J., Eliza, George W., Franklin H., Samantha C. (Mrs. James Burtchett), U. S. G. and Dora are living. Their eldest son, S. J. Long served in the Civil War in the same company with his father. He died in the hospital at Bloomfield, Stoddard County, MO, from sickness contracted while in the service. After the war Mr. Long returned to the remainder of his family, whom he had left for security at Springfield, MO, and in February, 1866, came to Barry County, where he has since been engaged in farming. He and his wife are consistent members of the Christian Church and the family are highly respected. He is a Republican, and a member of the G.A.R. - Civil War Record | Goodspeed Phyllis Long Note Photo Donna Cooper |
