Research Note: He was the son of Troy and Viola (Moore) Sanders. On November 23, 1956, in Wiggins, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Catherine Addison. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother in infancy. Carl was a graduate of Marion High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He then attended McNeese State College in Lake Charles. From February 10, 1959, until August 13, 1962, Carl served in the United States Army, being stationed at Ft. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma and honorably discharged from Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Carl was a self-employed electrician and a member of Electrical Local IBEW 861 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Twenty-four years ago he moved from Moss Bluff, Louisiana to Jenkins, Missouri to make his home. Paul was almost instantly killed while he was at work with a chain saw, felling timber. His nephew who was working with him ran for help and Paul was placed in a car and rushed to the Barry County Hospital but was dead when they arrived at the hospital. - End Came to Well Known Young Cato Resident While Cutting Tree Near His home Thursday Afternoon. This community was shocked by the news that Paul Stumpff well known and respected resident of Cato, died from injuries when he was stuck by a falling tree while cutting timber with a nephew, Donald Stumpff in woodland near his home, The accident happened about 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Mr. Stumpff was brought to the Barry County Hospital by Virgil Goold, a neighbor. He died about 15 minutes later form injuries to his back and neck. He was native of this section and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him as a good man excellent husband, father and neighbor. His passing will leave a void in the community where he had lived his life. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pluma Stumpff and six small sons ranging in the age from 10 years down. They are Richard Paul, Larry Gene, Marlin Keath, Wendell Earl, Jerry Lon and Lonnie Jay. Other survivors are: two brothers, Ernest and Olen Stumpff, Cato and a sister Mrs. Troy Short, West plains. We were glad Mr. Stumpff's health permitted him to make the long trip back. Mrs. Stumpff was a good Christian woman and will be sadly missed in church and the neighborhood. The bereaved children, husband and other relatives have our deepest sympathy. Lillie Sarah Hudson was born December 30, 1883, near Jenkins and departed this life October 15 at Bakersfield, Calif., where she and her husband had been making their home since February. She was 62 years, nine months, and 15 days old. She was the oldest child of Alexander and Rebecca Jane Hudson. She was married to Ben Stumpff December 15, 1901. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls; Miles, Roy, Bill and Burl, of Bakersfield, Calif.; and Mrs. Erma Padgett of Cato. Research Note: Mr. Stumpff was born at Jenkins, Missouri, on December 29, 1940, the son of Edgar Paul Stumpff and Pluma M. (Patton) Stumpff. He grew up and received his education at Cato, Missouri, and graduated from Cassville High School at Cassville, Missouri, in 1958. He was married to Carol Louise Shetley in April of 1959 at Cassville, Missouri. They made their home in Bartlesville and Mr. Stumpff attended Tulsa Barber College where he graduated in 1959. He was active as a barber at Ashley's Barber Shop in the Pennington Hills Shopping Center, then with Bill Boatright at the 14th Street Barber Shop in Bartlesville and later operated his own shop in Nowata for a short time. He then moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he was a representative of the Latta Distributing Company until returning to Bartlesville in the late 1960s. He served as a Dewey Police Officer for two years and then was active in his own painting and home remodeling business for a number of years. In the mid 1980s he became employed at the Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville as a funeral assistant until his recent illness. Carol Stumpff preceded him in death in August 1992. He was up Monday morning and ready to out breakfast when he was stricken. He was not able to talk during the day and passed away late Monday evening. Mrs. Walters died in 1900. Mr. Walters was living along near the home of his only child, Richard Walters. Jacob Walters was born and reared in Pennsylvania. He came to Missouri and located in Barry County about 40 years ago. He was a good citizen, a man who mixed little in public but a man spoken well of by those who knew him. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and his body laid to rest in the Bailie Cemetery near Jenkins by the side of the body of his wife. Research Note: He was the son of Wayne Wilson and Lora Tennessee "Tee" (Asher) Wilson. Jim was a student at Piney and Wooley Creek one-room Schoolhouses until he attended school in Reeds Spring. He was primarily a farmer and self-employed carpenter: however, he also worked in manufacturing and helped build some of the state highways in Southwest Missouri. Jim served as a Military Policeman in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was based in Kobe, Japan, where he met the love of his life, Michiko, more commonly known to her friends as June. Jim often recounted the first time he saw June in a Kobe coffee shop. According to Jim, he knew instantly he would marry her. Shortly after they began courting and unbeknownst to June, Jim initiated the paperwork required to marry her. Research Note: He was the son of Rue and Erma (Edgmond) Wolf. On August 20th, 1964 he was united in marriage to Linda (Bowling) Wolf. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Aubrey Wolf Sr., and one sister Shirley Parton. Denny attended school at Jenkins through the 8th grade and worked as a logger and then in construction work. But he is perhaps best known for his craft of basket-making. Many hours were spent in the "basket house" with his wife, son, and mom, and occasionally a grandchild or two, making baskets for a living for 28 years.
