Society to Honor Charter Members Or next meeting will be held at historic Walnut Springs Farm on September 28, at 7:00 p.m. We will be honoring the people who organized the very first Historical Society in Webster County. The Society began in 1952 with 98 charter members, all of whom are listed onthe back of this newsletter. It was established in order to make preliminary plans to celebrate Webster County's Centennial in 1955. We owe a lot to the original members. Of those, 10 are still living, most are active in our community and some in the Society itself. Also featured at the meeting will be the reenactment of a pie auction from days gone by. some of us have never had the pleasure of attending such a function, so we would appreciate sharing the found memories of those of you who can. We need all of you Society bakcer (that includes the men) to really put forthe the effort into some of your best pies. Homemade ice cream will also be available. All money raised will go to help furnish our Resource Room at the Museum. Let's all come out and pay tribute to the pioneers of our Society. Bring your lawn chairs, pies, appetizers, and your friends! Newsflash!
We have just been informed that the Museum will receive a partial grant from Webster Electric in the amount of $6,550, to be used to plater, insulate, and paint the interior of the building. |

Gloria Bogart Carter is working on a comprehensive 1850 Wright County census. Thsi will include not only census information, but also any other data on households. If you have family who were in the 1850 Wright County census (which includes the eastern edge of what is now Webster County), please contact her at 733 S. Farm Rd. 89, Springfield, MO 65802 or at her e-mail address: gbcarter@juno.com.This is a joint effort of Gloria and the Wright County Historical society. New households are being added daily by Phyllis Rippee, Office Superviosr, and can be viewed on the Wright County Historical Society web site at http://www.rootsweb. com/~mowright/wright.htm. Plans are to eventually make this information available in book form. The Missouri Route 66 Association made its way across Missouri on September 11 during their annual trek down Historic Route 66. The entourage, which included about 150 vintage vehicles, began in St. Louis and ended in Miami, Okalhoma, with the tour following old Route 66 through Webster County. It is hoped that our Society can plan some special activities for next year's tour. |
