Notes From The President...

The cold winter weather did not stop the enthusiasm of many Historical Society membvers and others to continue working to restore historical documents and newspapers. Those who worked at the Courthouse on the probate court documents found them to be very interesting as the prepare them for micro-filming. Although began as a February project, plans are now to work year 'round until the work is complete. The work on preserving the old copies of the Marshfield MAIL was moved to the meeting room of the Museum. This work is a rather slow process as some of the newspapers are more than a hundred years old and must be handled with care.
Several activities have taken place at the Museum during the winter. The monthly meeting and specially called meeting have been well attended. Som of our members worked to more and cover displays in preparation for refinishing the floor that was left from last year, and the installation of the new heating/cooling units which should be completed by April 1st.
There remains much work to be completed before opening date of May 1st. All the Displays must again be moved, cleaned and rearranged. Remodeling of one bathroom, hallway, and storage room will begin as soon as the furnace work is completed.
We will need volunteers to help in preparation for the reopening of the Museum. All hlep would be appreciated whether it is a few hours or a few days.
We have already started the New Year at the Museum with excitement. As we work to preserve and display some of the history of our county and the families, we look forward to this being the best years since the Museum was started.

The WEbster County Historical Society is now accdepting orders for the reprint edition of the WEbster County History Book. During this pre-publication offering, the two-volume set will sell for $65 (plus $5 mailing).
After May 31st, the price will be $75 (plus $5 mailing). The Society need to pre-sell a number of books prior to the deadline in order to have the money on hand for publication.
Enclosed with the newsletter you will find an announcement and order form. Please pass this information along to help us reach our goal by May 31st.

CENTURY CLUB

The Webster County Historical Society has a Century Club for those who make a donation of $100 or more. Donors' names are placed on a plaque located on the main floor of the Museum. All donations are tax deductible and may be made in the name of the individual or a family member fro whom they would want to commemorate their place in the history of Webster County. Recent Century Club donations and memorials have been: Jim Bresee for Presley Bresee, Jean Singer in memory of Curtis Singer, and the Case Family Reunion.

Museum News

Plans are to reopen the Museum the first of May with a special exhibit on photography. The schedule will be similar to our last season.
If you have items to loan of would like to volunteer, call Linda (859-2036) or Betty Young (859-5310).

Society members were in attendance March 7th at the workshop on the Missouri Historical Records Grant Program. The workshop was held at the History Museum of Springfield-Greene County and was provided by the Secretary of State Office.
The Society has many needs fo the Museum and hopes to take advantage of the grant program to hlep in the preservation of the old abstracts, documents, newspapers, etc., in the Resource Room.
An attempt is being made to formulate plans and prioritize needs, and input for the membership would be welcomed. See Paulene, Diana, or Linda.


The latest Jerry Rice print is available through the Historical Society and is now on display at Whitehurst Insurance Office. The print entitled "One Satruday Afternoon - Marshfield 1956," depicts the west side of the Public Square and is the fourth in a series. It sells fro $37.50.
The three previous paintings, "The Ritz," "The Sweet Shop," and "The Centennial," are also available.
Until the Museum reopens, purchases may be made at Whitehurst Insurance. All proceeds benefit the Historical Society. 		Thanks to all our members. At the end of 2000, the Society had about 40 lifetime members. In addition, the following is a list of the paid members in 2001:
