JAMES M. TURLEY

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 426

James M. Turley

(Farmer and Stock-feeder, Section 27, Post-office, Hoover).

One of the most worthy men that has ever lived in Henry township is the subject of this sketch, James M. Turley, who, though perhaps not as widely known as many others, has gone on steadily but surely, securing for himself substantial evidences of prosperity.  At the present time he is quite extensively engaged in feeding stock, in connection with his farming interests, and finds this a fruitful source of agricultural labor.  Mr. Turley was born in the State, in Cooper county, coming from Kentucky antecedents on his father’s side.  Jesse B. Turley, the father, a Kentuckian by birth, left there when still a young man and located in Missouri in an early day of its history.  His wife before her marriage was Miss Julia A. Riddle, of Maryland nativity.  James M., whose birth occurred February 19, 1841, was brought up in Cooper county, early learning the details of farm life, which he has always continued.  It was in 1871 that he made a settlement in this county, and this has since been his home, his subsequent career having already been noted.  His home place embraces 215 acres, and is well improved.  November 9, 1869, Mr. T. was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Williams, who was born in Cooper county, Mo.  She is a daughter of William Williams, of Cooper county, and is an estimable lady.
