GRANVILLE THOMPSON
From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 482 Granville Thompson (Farmer and Stock raiser, Section 12, Post office, Eldorado Springs). There are but very few, if any, younger agriculturalists mentioned within the present volume than he whose name heads this sketch, though he is well worthy a notice in this connection on account of the place he is rapidly assuming among older and perhaps more experienced tillers of the soil. Born in Lawrence county, Ky., February 12, 1861, Mr. T. was the son of David J. and Francis (Pennington) Thompson, both Kentuckians by birth, the former born in 1834 and the latter in 1839, their marriage having occurred in 1855. Granville was one of seven children, the others being America, Delia A., Josephine, Laura Belle, Cora E. and James Sterling. With the family Mr. Thompson made various moves while young, their first settlement in Missouri having been in Platte county, from whence, after one winter, they went to Texas, remaining there until the fall of 1866. Returning to Cedar County, they remained some two miles east of El Dorado Springs until coming to his present place of residence, about the same distance north of that resort. This has since been his place of abode, his five years' residence on the homestead having improved it very considerably. December 19, 1880, Ms. Mary A. Beauchamp became Mr. Thompson's wife, her birth having occurred in Tippecanoe county, Ind., February 22, 1861. Her parents were William and Mary A. Beauchamp, nee Bullard, the former of Ohio and the latter of Indiana. Their only child is named Jesse Ray, born April 16, 1882. Politically Mr. T. is found in the ranks of the Democratic party.
