In 1900, Benjamin and Lizzie are living in Montevallo Township in Vernon County, Missouri. Benjamin is 28 and Lizzie is 24. Daughter Dora M. is 5 years old.
In the 1910 census, the Benjamin Shields family was still living in Montevallo Township. By this time, Benjamin and Lizzie had been married 15 years, and four of five children born to Lizzie were living. Children in the household at that time were 14-year-old Dora M., 9-year-old James A., 6-year old Archie R., and 3 year-old Artie E.
In 1912, Dora Shields married E. L. Taylor. Consent for the marriage was filed because Dora was under 18 years of age. Both bride and groom lived in Zodiac at the time.
The family had moved down into Milford Township in Barton County, Missouri by the 1920 census. Benjamin is still listed as a farmer, and children living in the household at that time were: Alfa, 19 yr old son Archie, 15 yr old son Artie, 12 yr old daughter Mabel, 9 yr old daughter Edna, 6 yr old daughter Ralph, 3 1/12 yr old son.
The 1930 Vernon County, Missouri census shows that Benjamin Shields and wife Elizabeth were living in Bronaugh, Moundville Township. Benjamin was a section head and on the rail road. The only children still in the household were Edna, 16 year old and Ralph, 13 years old. |
