SHEDDRICK

 

THOMAS D. SHEDDRICK

Thomas D. Sheddrick was born in Kentucky May 31, 1839, and married his first wife, Mary A. Hedden in Kentucky.  He brought his young family to Vernon County, Missouri in 1866 following the Civil War and settled in the northern part of the county.  On January 1, 1868 Mary A. Sheddrick died and was buried in Fairview-Rider Cemetery, located just across the county line in Bates county.  The 1870 Vernon County Census shows two young sons in the household, both having been born in Kentucky:  Marion A., 8 years old; and Enoch W., 5 years old. 

 

Vernon County, Missouri, Marriage Book A, page 128 records that John G. Dryden, Justice of the Peace, "tied the nuptial knot" between Mr. Thomas D. Sheddrick and Miss Amanda E. Ford on December 24, 1868.  This event is also recorded in the Diary of John G. Dryden who lived in the Pleasant Valley (Metz) community.  Sheddrick's name is written as "Shedrick" in the marriage record. 

 

The 1880 Vernon County, Missouri census, Metz Township, shows this family as

          Thomas D. - 37 yr old, born Kentucky

          Mandy - 30 yr old, born Missouri

          Marion - 18 yr old, born Kentucky

          Thomas - 14 yr old, born Kentucky

          John - 7 years old, born Missouri

          Emmy - 2 years old, born Missouri

Also living in the household are the James and Malinda Payne family.

 

Thomas D. Sheddrick died February 2, 1888 and was buried in Fairview-Rider Cemetery.

 

The 1900 Vernon County, Missouri census lists family members as all being born in Missouri:

          Amanda E, 47 yr old, head of household, widowed, 5 of 9 children are living

          Farris H., son, 21 yr old

          George C., 19 yr old

          Mary E., 16 yr old

          Elsie A., 13 yr old

 

According to the 1886 Map of Vernon County, Missouri, the T. D. Sheddrick family farm was located in the southeast quarter Township 38N, Range 33W, Section 28.

  

 

MARION ARCHIBALD SHEDDRICK

Marion A. Sheddrick, son of Thomas D. and Mary (Hedden) Sheddrick, was born December 8, 1861 in Shelby County, Kentucky.  He moved to Vernon County with his parents in 1866, and grew up on the family farm.  On July 4, 1884 he married Laura M. Yeates, daughter of William H. and Mildred (Medley) Yeates.  Marion was a farmer.  the 1900 Metz Township census shows that he and Laura had 7 children:

          Millard A., born May 1885

          Hattie A., born July 1887

          Vina A., born June 1890

          Laura M., born December 1891

          Lewis V., born February 1894

          George A., born January 1897

          James W., born September 1899

 

The following additional children were listed in the 1910 Metz Township census, with the notation that one child was deceased (James W.).

          Roy and Ray, 8 yr old, twins

          Doris, 6 yr old

          Paul, 4 yr old

 

The June 1914 Metz Times newspaper reports in the "Ten Years Ago This Week" column that "Mrs. Marion Sheddrick had put the twins in pants and they felt so big that they crowded Marion out of the buggy."

 

 

Enoch W. Sheddrick was born September 16, 1875 in Kentucky and Married Maggie A. Barr on September 30, 1888 in Vernon County, Missouri.  A few years later, they moved to California.

 

Lena M. Sheddrick was born April 23, 1872 in Vernon County and died January 5, 1894.  She is buried in Fairview-Rider Cemetery.

 

George Sheddrick married Miss Adrena Rodman, both of Metz, on February 14, 1904  in Metz by the Rev. E. L. Rodman.
