B. A. MOBERLY
From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 757: B. A. Moberly (Farmer, Section 25, Post-office, Deerfield). The facts which appear in the following brief biography form another illustration of the possibilities of success in life, even in the face of the most discouraging circumstances, when a determined will is united with industry, close attention to business and persevering effort. Mr. Moberly is now the owner of 320 acres of well improved land, but when he came here in 1873 he was without anything, and was obliged to work by the day to support his family. He knows, therefore, the value of his present possessions and can enjoy them accordingly. Born in Madison county, Ky., January 8, 1841, he was the son of Simon and Artemetia (Banta) Moberly, themselves of Kentucky nativity, and the parents of twelve children. Young Moberly passed his youthful days upon a farm in the State of his birth until 1855, then removing to Clinton county, Mo., where he lived upwards of eighteen years. In 1873, he commenced his career in this county—one that has proven honorable and successful. December 7, 1865, Mr. Moberly was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Moberly, like himself a Kentuckian by birth. No little credit is due her for the part she has borne in assisting her husband to rise in material affairs. Mr. and Mrs. M. have nine children: Edward, Wilmoth, Frank, George, Mary, Quincy, Simeon, Jacob and Charlie. [Transcribed by Becky Siple] |
