DR. P. E. MINCKLER
From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 671: Dr. P. E. Minckler (Physician and Surgeon, Nevada). The subject of this sketch, a worthy representative of a distinguished professional father, was born in Canada on the 31st of December, 1844, his parents being Ezekiel and Harriet N. (Keep) Minckler. The former was a physician in Canada and thoroughly devoted to his adopted calling. When his son became of sufficient age to enter upon the study of the science in which he took such interest it was but natural that his attention should be turned in that direction. Accordingly young Minckler grew up to a knowledge of the profession of medicine, becoming acquainted with many of its details at an early period. After pursuing his studies for some time under the instruction of his father he was licensed to practice by the Canadian Government. Some time later he attended a medical school in his native country, from which he was subsequently graduated. Coming to the United States in 1866, he located in Northeast Missouri in 1867, where for about eight years he was actively and successfully engaged in following the practice of his profession. In 1875, he returned to Canada, practiced some time, and then attended a full course of lectures, receiving the degrees of Master of Surgery and Doctor of Medicine. In 1883 he again came to the United States and for three years was located in Marquette county, Wis., from whence he moved to this county in 1886. Though a recent comer to Nevada Dr. Minckler has already established himself permanently among other medical practitioners. Thoroughly grounded in the science of medicine, he has the ability to apply its principles, and is most earnest in the prosecution of his belief, combining with his well versed theory that rarer but none the less important factor -- good common sense. It is on this account perhaps that he has so soon taken such a hold upon the community. In 1877 Dr. Minckler was married to Miss Ida M. Pond, who was born in Wisconsin. They have a family of three children: Frank, Flora and Alvin. [Transcribed by Marty Patton] |
