JOSEPH MILLARD MILLIGAN

J. M. Milligan Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Millard Milligan, who died at his home in Horton Wednesday morning of last week, were held at the Horton Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon.  Rev. Earl Bingham preached the sermon.  A large crowd was in attendance.  Burial was in Balltown cemetery.  Deceased had been ill for several months and was taken to Kansas City a few weeks ago for a surgical operation, which resulted in no benefit.  J. Millard Milligan was born November 12, 1872.  From the age of 6 years until he grew to manhood he made his home with M. A. Rinehart who lived at Rinehart at that time.  He was married to Miss Gertie Potter, also of Rinehart.  A son, Clifford, and a daughter, Opal, were born to them, both of whom with his wife were at his bedside during his last hours.  When a rural route was established at Rinehart about thirty years ago he became a mail carrier.  When one route was done away with about two years ago he was transferred to Horton.  Here he built a pretty home.  Mr. Milligan was a devoted member of the Rinehart Christian church and for years has been a member of the official board.  He was a good man and will be greatly missed.
