GEORGE A. MACK
From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 424-425: George A. Mack (Farmer, Section 27, Post-office, Hume). Mr. Mack, though still a young man, has shown himself to be possessed of such traits of character and determination as are rarely exhibited in this day; and for this reason he deserves more than usual credit for what he has accomplished in recent years. He was born in St. Louis county, Mo., August 9, 1860, and was brought up in the city of St. Louis until 21 years of age, attending to the business of butchering, when, finding that a longer residence in the city would not prove the wisest course for him to pursue, he gave up his interests there and purchased a tract of land in Vernon county, the improvement of which he at once commenced. Now he owns a neat, comfortable homestead of 80 acres, and besides this controls 320 acres. Mr. Mack's worthy wife was formerly Miss Fannie Finch, of Clinton county, Mo., whom he married October 1, 1883. Their only child is Oma Ethel. Mr. M.'s father, Abraham Mack, was originally from Europe, though he emigrated to the United States when young, subsequently marrying Miss Susan F. Heiss, a Virginian by birth. Three children blessed this union, and of that number George was the only son and second child. His father still survives, as does also his mother. |
