LAMOUREUX N. KENNEDY

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 655-656:

Lamoureux N. Kennedy

(Attorney at Law, Nevada).

Mr. Kennedy is a representative of a family some of whose members became settled in Missouri while it was still a territory, and in an early part of the present century. His paternal grandfather was originally from near Charleston, S. C., moving to Missouri in 1807 with three or four American families, who took up a location at St. Charles. Kennedy’s Fort, near the present sight of Wright City, was established by Mr. K.’s great-grandfather, and some of the planks which were used in the construction of that fort are still retained and utilized in the floor of a granary in Warren county. Lewis Kennedy, the father of Lamoureux N., was born in Warren county, Mo., became familiar with merchandising when young, but on account of impaired health engaged in agricultural pursuits which he continued until 1881. In 1882 he came to Vernon county, where he still makes his home. His wife, formerly Catherine Stewart, was a Virginian by birth. The subject of this sketch, the youngest son in his parents’ family of 6 children, first saw the light in Warren county, Mo., February 21, 1856; consequently he is now in his thirty-first year. He was reared and educated in the vicinity of his birthplace, but to his primary course of instruction a legal course was taken at the State University, at Columbia, from which institution he was graduated in the spring of 1882. Immediately following this Mr. Kennedy settled at Nevada, embarking at once upon his professional career, which has since resulted in placing him prominently among the attorneys of this portion of the State. In 1884 he was elected justice of the peace, a position the duties of which he is at present discharging. For his record as both a lawyer and magistrate it is only necessary to refer to the courts of this and other counties, where his labors attest his learning, genius and thorough investigation. September 9, 1885, Mr. Kennedy was united in marriage with Mrs. Mellie Clack, whose maiden name was Walker, a native of Henry county, MO. They have one child, an infant. Mrs. Kennedy has a daughter by a former marriage, Noni. Mr. K. is a member of A. O. U. W.
