Thomas J. Irvin died at his home in East Metz at 7 o'clock Sunday evening.  He had been ill a few days, but the infirmities incident to old age was chiefly the cause of his death.

Uncle Tom had been a resident of Vernon and Bates counties about twenty years, and has lived in Metz the past seven years.  During the war of the Rebellion he served in Company B, 54th Ill. Inf. and was discharged October 17, 1865, after serving almost five years.  He was a member of Mt. McGregor Post No. 252, G. A. R.
