PRESTON DIXON
Friends were shocked this morning to learn of the death of Nevada Chief of Police Preston L. Dixon, 50, who died about 10 o'clock last night at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. Chief Dixon had suffered a severe heart attack last week and other seizures since that time, however his condition was thought to be somewhat improved.
He was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Copan, Okla., the son of Levi O. and Della Shafer Dixon. On May 31, 1938, he was married in Nevada to Mary Harless, who survives. Mr. Dixon came to Nevada when he was a small child, attended local schools and had spent most of his lifetime here. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Optimist Club. For the past 13 years, Mr. Dixon had been a member of the Nevada Police Force and for the past two years was Chief of Police.
Survivors include his wife of the home, 224 South Alma; his mother, Mrs. Della Shumate and step-father, Dale Shumate of Nevada; one sister, Mildred Ross, Bend, Ore .; two. nieces and one nephew.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, pending word from relatives on the west coast. The body was taken to the Ferry Funeral Home.

Funeral for Police Chief Preston Dixon Tomorrow
Funeral services for Chief of Police Preston Dixon, who died Tuesday night following a heart seizure, will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. O. V. Dodson will officiate and interment will be in Newton Burial Park, under the direction of the Ferry Funeral Home.

Final Rites Held for Police Chief Dixon
Memorial rites for Police Chief Preston L. Dixon, who died unexpectedly on Wednesday, were conducted this afternoon at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. O. V. Dodson officiated and interment was in Newton Burial Park.
Marvin Belcher and Don Kennedy sang "Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Bill Sage, organist.
Active pallbearers were: Jasper Hilt, Harlan Hovey, Gene Phipps, Virgil Kachel, Glen Shepherd and Frank Bloom. Members of the Nevada Police Department served as honorary bearers.
