WILLIAM A. CANN
From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 628: William A. Cann (Nevada). Among other contractors and builders in Nevada deserving of particular mention is William A. Cann, a young man of acknowledged mechanical skill, whose handiwork shows prominently in the buildings of a number of the best structures of this place. He was born in Green county, Ky., May 4, 1863, and was the son of John M. and Margaret (Calhoun) Cann, the former of whom was also a Kentuckian by birth, and by occupation a wheelwright. Three children were in their family, and of these William A. was the youngest. Up to the year 1880 he remained in his native state, working at his present calling from the age of 14, his time previous to that having been passed in attendance at the common schools, where he received a practical education. In 1881 he located at Nevada and has since been occupied in following his trade, though for three years past he has carried on business on his own account. The most of his work has been in town, but besides that numerous buildings in various parts of the county have been erected by him, and stand as prominent specimens of his workmanship and mechanism. Mr. Cann is also a property holder here, owning 160 acres of good land. His own industry and successful management have contributed to place him in a comfortable position in life. December 24, 1885 he was married to Miss Cora Camron. Her birth occurred in Clay county, Mo. [Transcribed by Anna Giunta]
