ASA J. BEARD

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 753

Asa J. Beard

(Farmer, Section 20, Post-office, Enoch).

Mr. Beard is one of the native-born citizens of Vernon county, and as such possesses an extensive acquaintance of this community, and in turn is not unknown to many of the county's residents. He was born December 9, 1852, and is the son of Robert J., or "Jack" Beard, and Elizabeth (Miller) Beard, reference to whom has been made in the sketch which immediately precedes this. It is unnecessary to repeat, therefore, what appears at that place. Young Asa was brought up in this county to a knowledge of farm life, and indeed his entire occupation from boyhood has been that of farming and stock raising. Most naturally he has been successful, for his experience and industry have combined to give him substantial returns for the amount of labor bestowed upon his land. He owns 190 acres, a track well improved and under cultivation, but it is worthy of remark that these improvements have been made by him alone. October 28, 1875, Mr. Beard married to Miss Hattie McGinness, who like her husband was born and reared in this county.
