WILLIAM B. ARMSTRONG

William B. Armstrong

(Farmer and Stock-raiser, Section 25, Post-office, Deerfield).

   Mr. Armstrong is well known to the people of this vicinity as one of the county's thrifty, prosperous agriculturists. His birth occurred in Ireland, December 27, 1839, and his parents were also natives of that country. Alexander Armstrong, his father, was a farmer by calling; the maiden name of his mother was Martha Ritchey. In 1852 the family emigrated to the United States and settled in Knox county, Ill., William also forming one of the party, and up to the breaking out of the war he remained upon the home place. Then he entered Co. B, 102d Illinois volunteer infantry, where he remained in active service until the close of the war. After this he continued to make his home in Illinois, until 1869 when he came to Missouri, settling upon his present place in Richland township. This embraces 500 acres, the improvements of which deserve special mention, for he has made them all himself. Indeed, his entire property has been obtained through his individual efforts, and he well merits the competence he now enjoys. In December, 1866, Mr. Armstrong was married to Miss Olive Terpenning, of Illinois nativity. Four children have blessed this union: Smith, Ethelda, Ritchey and Lenora M.
