Lem (L. E.) Johnson

Lem (L. E.) Johnson, was born July 1, 1884 at Yukon, Mo. and departed this life September 6, 1943, at his home near Mountain Grove, at the age of 59 years, 2 months and 5 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Canada Oct. 5, 1907.

To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted companion; two sons, Decatur C. of the U. S. Navy and Otto H. of Houston, Texas; six daughters, Mrs. Gwendola Hafner, Cabool, Mo.; Mrs. Norma Britton, Velma Emma and Janice Ozene, all of Farmington, Mo.; Ava Ruth and Lillian Edwina of the home; also seven grandchildren and six brothers, Franklin L, Iraan, Texas; Lum M., Alliance, Ohio; Otto A., Licking, Mo.; Andy P., Raymondville, Mo.; General W., Success, Mo.; and Roy, Ferguson, Mo.,, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Johnson was for many years a teacher in the rural schools of Texas County.

He served as County Treasurer of Texas County and assessor of Clinton township.

Until recent years he was an active and much interested member in all community affairs.

In the year of 1911, he united with the Missionary Baptist Church.

Although the last four years of his life were spent in untold suffering, he was patient and kind through it all.  For several weeks he had realized the end was near, and had said often he was ready to go.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday, September 12, the Rev. Earnest Hart of Mountain Grove officiating.  Interment following in the Stubbs Cemetery under the direction of the Elliott Funder Home of Cabool, Mo.
