Sherrill Lewis Mitchell, M.D.l of Texas County, Missouri

Sherrill Lewis Mitchell, M. D., was born in Texas County, Mo., June 22, 1862, being the son of Sherrill L. and Sarah (Bradford) Mitchell, natives of Tennessee and Missouri, respectively. When a child, the father moved to Texas County, where he married and still lives, being a farmer by occupation. He has been county judge for about six years; was magistrate many years, and during the late unpleasantness between the North and South he served three years in the Union army. Both parents were members of the Methodist Church. In their family were eleven children, nine of whom are living, five sons and four daughters. Dr. Sherrill L. Mitchell was the fourth in order of birth. He received his education in the common schools and at Salem Academy, and remained on the farm until about twenty-one years of age, when he studied medicine under Dr. George Orr, of Licking. In 1883 he entered the Missouri Medical College, and graduated from that institution in 1885. He afterward located at Licking, where he has enjoyed a good practice since. In 1887 he took a post graduate course at the Polyclinic School, St. Louis. He is a member of the Rolla District Medical Association and Texas County Medical Society, being president of the latter. January 25, 1885, he married Miss Anna Freeland, daughter of M. D. Freeland, and became the father of two children, Nellie and Ernest. December 30, 1888, his wife died. She was an excellent woman, and a member of the Christian Church. In connection with his practice, Dr. Mitchell is senior member of the drug firm of Mitchell & Hill. He has been a resident of this county all his life, and is a wide-awake, stirring young man. He is a Republican in politics, and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
