According to Glenda Chamberlin, "The Wooley Creek School
derives its name from the nearby Wooley Creek that was named for the Wooley
family. It is believed that the family settled in this area in the early
to mid 1800’s."

Wooley Creek derived its name from the Wooley family that settled in and around this area in the early to mid 1800’s. Recorded facts on the Wooley family are not complete but the following information has been obtained and search for more continues.
Felix and Elizabeth (Baker) Wooley were parents to two daughters, Martha and Mary. There is some recorded information that indicates Martha Wooley married an Elijah Stone and Mary Wooley married Robert Massey.
Other information obtained shows that a James Wooley married Abashaba Harriet Baker and they had two children, a son Levi and a daughter E.J. Wooley. There is information to indicate that James Wooley died in Stone County on February 2, 1852. No records have been found on E. J. Levi married Marguerite Turnbaugh. Levi and Marguerite (Turnbaugh) Wooley were parents to William C. Wooley (b. Dec., 1820) who married Catherine Williams (b. May, 1824). William C. and Catherine (Williams) Wooley were parents to Sarah (Wooley) Carter (b. Dec. 12,1840, her father’s birthday)
Ailcey (Wooley) Carr (b. May 16, 1842, her mother’s birthday)
Christenny (Wooley) Yocum, aka “Tennie” (b. Jan.25, 1847)
Elizabeth Wooley (b. Jan. 25, her sister’s b.d., year unknown)
Margaret (Wooley) Patton (b.Jan. 13, 1851; d. Apr. 27, 1887)
Emaline (Wooley) (b.date unknown; died a few months old)
Joseph Laney Wooley (b. Feb. 29, 1849; d. Dec. 20, 1892)
Sarah Wooley married T. J. Carter. Ailcey Jane Wooley married DeWitt Clinton Carr, Christenny Wooley married Jack Yocum and Margaret Wooley married Dr. William Patton. Sarah Frances (Wooley) Carr lived to be 91 years old and died March 5, 1932.
