John B. Cloud served his country during the Civil War as Private in Company B, 72nd Regiment. He served 212 days and was ordered into services the same day as his father, Calvin Cloud.

He served Stone County as Sheriff from 1874 to 1877.  He was also Collector of Stone County and Public Administrator.
