Andrew Jackson WHITWELL
Andrew Jackson WHITWELL, the son of William and Rebecca CURRY WHITWELL, was born
in 1832 near Cane Creek, Hickman Co TN. He married first, Alsey
HUFSTEDLER, the daughter of James and Elizabeth SALMON HUFSTEDLER, in 1856 in
Hickman Co TN. Andrew and Alsey had the following children:
James Buchanan; John Wesley; Nancy Elizabeth; Andrew Jackson Jr (my ancestor);
Willis Eli; and Samuel Moore.
After Alsey's death in 1866, Andrew married Aramunta Adeline POPE, the daughter
of James and Nancy HALBROOKS POPE, in Hickman Co TN. Andrew and
Aramunta had the following children: Rachel; Egbert Oscar;
Lemuel Pope; Felix Newton; Nola Ardella; and Viola Tennessee.
Records show that in 1876 Andrew purchased the estate of Charles Wilder located
in an area 18 miles northwest of Doniphan in Ripley Co MO. He
moved his family to the area in 1877 and in 1878 the little town of Bennett was
born. WHITWELLs participated in many roles in this town.
Andrew died in Ripley Co MO in 1893 and is buried in the Bennett Cemetery.
