Searching for great grandparents. I need information
regarding the parents and siblings of Leona Faye STROER ( Feb. 25, 1906-Sept.
1979) and her husband Raymond A. VAN FOSSEN (Feb. 18, 1900-Jul. 1981).
Leona was from El Dorado, Cedar County, Mo. Leona and Raymond had 13 children.
The eldest son, Thomas died as a young child. They raised their family
in a train box car in Council Grove, Ks. Raymond worked for the Union Pacific
Rail Road until sometime in the 1950's. The deceased children are Thomas,
Everett, who moved to Oregon, Virginia (m. name Stover) who lived with
her husband in Bixby, Ok, Melvin, who raised his children primarily in
Missouri, and Robert Dean, also a long time KC, Mo. resident who died visiting
us in Pensacola, Fl. Leona's Mother lived beyond the age of 94. She died
sometime after the summer of 1972, or 73. She lived in Missouri, probably
a life long resident. (I'm guessing.) She most likely lived in El Dorado
Springs, but she was a nursing home resident in Kansas City. Raymond had
a brother named Charles in Americus, Lyon Co, Kansas. He has, or had, brothers
and other relatives in Texas, Illinois, Ohio, and perhaps, Iowa, and numerous
other states. There may be a link to Luther C. Van Fossen, last known address
was Baxter Springs, Ks. He was a Spanish American War Vet. Another possible
link is a Union Soldier named John Van Fossen whose name appeared in Kansas
in the late 1800's. Any help finding direct links my grandparents would
be appreciated.

Submitter: Jerilyn Smith (jerilyn@arealink.net)
Date: 29 Aug 1998
Looking for Isaac Rains. He may be the son of
George Rains whose decedants settled in Missouri (~1840's). Isaac settled
in Warren County Indiana around 1827 and started a sawmill. He was later
a County Agent who helped lay out part of Williamsport, IN in 1829. Elected
Associate Judge in 1831 and Justice of the Peace in 1832. He platted and
settled the small town of Rainsville, Indiana in 1833. 1830 Indiana Census
shows he was in Warren County, (with ~7 children) but we cannot find him
before or much after that date. Records show he left Warren County, IN
in 1834, however an Isaac Rains was in the 1840 census with 5 children
(either him or a son??) We cannot find any record of Isaac or family after
that point except that his will was recorded at Bartholomew County Courthouse,
Columbus, IN in 1836. We think he might have gone Missouri, but are unsure.
(He may have originated in Ohio, Kentucky, or Tennessee.) It is recorded
that Isaac's second wife, Sarah and children went to Missouri around 1840
(Isaac may have had 12+ children, including twin sons Josiah and Jeremiah
born in 1830.) Other information: 1832 or so: James, Jesse, Lawrence, Nathan
and Stephan Rains were also in Rainsville, IN - unsure of their relation
to Isaac. (Lawrence is also linked with George and may be Isaac's brother
or uncle. George and John Rains went to Ohio and it was known that George
had a son named Isaac. George's decendants settled in Missouri and may
have been the children of Isaac.) Any information, leads, or other links
will be appreciated.

WEBB, JACOB and relations. Seeking parents and
ancestors of NANCY M. WEBB (b. 1863 , Texas). In 1880 Texas census, at
age of 17 (married with one child), Nancy said that both of her parents
were from Missouri. Old county geneaological resource indicates that "the
Webb family" was from Cole Co., Missouri. A JACOB WEBB ("probably born
12-25-1798 in Sullivan Co., TN" and in Cole Co., Missouri "before 1830")
is reported to have come from Cole County to Montague Co., TX, with his
second wife, ELIZABETH WRAY (first wife, d 1837-8, was ELEANOR ___), daughter
from his first marriage (NARCISSA) and her husband, JOHN R. MCELROY, and
the following children born in Missouri from Jacob's second marriage: MAHALA
KATHERINE, MARY ELIZABETH, BENJAMIN, GEORGE, SAMUEL AND JOHN R. I believe
that, though NANCY WEBB was not Jacob's daughter, they must have been related.

Loucinda Ferguson Miles (1869/Indiana - 1898/Indiana); Samuel Ferguson
((1866/Indiana - 1920/Illinois); and John Ferguson (1868/Indiana - 1901/Indiana).
THEY SHOULD APPEAR IN THE 1860 MISSOURI CENSUS BUT SINCE I DO NOT KNOW
WHAT COUNTY, I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION. I do not know who
Joseph Ferguson or Nancy Swain's parents were. Any information would be
