INTRODUCTION TO OBITUARY LIST

THE HISTORY OF POLK COUNTY MISSIONARY BAPTIST ASSOCIATION 1840 - 1969

This 406 page book holds much genealogically related information. Unfortunately the only index to the book is that of church names and the biography list. I began to make an every name index for the biography section. In doing that, I found the obituary committee reports in the minutes of the early annual meetings of the Baptist Association provided facts that were probably not available elsewhere for many of the subjects.

These reports seemed to be very inconsistent from year to year. Some were quite complete, giving age at death, place and date of birth and place and date of death. All that was provided for some years was a name and one has to assume that that person died in the interim between annual meetings. Some reports did not include any names -- just the number of deaths reported for that year.

I attempted to type the names and places exactly as found in the book. It should also be noted that this association encompassed some Dallas County churches.
