Judge Montgomery L. (Monty) Wilson 86, of Maryville, MO passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO, from complications from cancer surgery. Monty was born on August 3, 1924 in Guilford, MO to Roxie C. and Beulah M. Richards Wilson, they preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard C. Wilson, and his son, Richard James Wilson, in 2008. Monty graduated from the Skidmore Missouri High School in 1942, and attended Baker University in Baldwin Kansas. He then entered the U.S. Army Air Corp, and was a WW II veteran, being discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, before transferring to the University of Missouri/Columbia. He earned his BS in Agriculture Economics, and continued at the University of Missouri, School of Law, and earned his JD degree in 1952. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. On August 20, 1949 in Elmo, MO, Monty was united in marriage to Irma Lee Hull, she survives of the home. Monty practiced law for several years in Maryville, and was the Maryville, MO city attorney. He also continued to farm in the Skidmore area for most of his working life. In 1958, Monty was elected to the bench as the Probate Magistrate Judge, now the Associate Circuit Judge. He held that position for 18 years. He then spent 12 years as the 4th Judicial Circuit Judge, and retired from that position in 1988. Monty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. He was a member of the Maryville Host Lions Club, and for several years had coordinated the clubs Meals-on-wheels program at the Senior Center. In 2009, Monty received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award. He was a member of the Skidmore Missouri Masonic Lodge. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of St. Joseph, and spent several years on the Scottish Rite degree team. He was a member of the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, MO. Monty was the former Scout Master and spent 20 years with Troop 74, BSA of Maryville, MO, and was a member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say, St. Joseph, MO. He was also a member of the Skidmore and Maryville American Legion Posts. He was a member of the Nodaway County Democratic Club. Monty spent 19 years as the secretary/treasurer of the Skidmore, Missouri Alumni Association. In 1988, he received the Optimist Club’s, Law Enforcement Award. Monty loved to travel abroad and in the United States, and had spent the last 22 winters in Mesa, AZ. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Irma Lee Wilson, of the home, Maryville, MO, and his daughter, Lee Ann and husband Anthony Cocchiara, Buffalo, MO. His two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Redd, and husband Shannon Mosby, Buckeye, AZ, and Phillip A. Wilson, Kansas City, MO, and his great grandchildren, Olivia Mosby, and Jackson Mosby, both of Buckeye, AZ. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. The Pastor Scott Moon will be the officiant. The body will arrive at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, with full military honors by the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, and members of the Missouri Military Honors Detail. Barbara J. Glidden 68, of Burlington Junction, MO. passed away June 7, 2011 at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO. Barbara was born on May 3, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO to Lloyd J. and Irene L. Johnson Davis, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two dear family friends who helped raise her, Paul and Verleyen Mires. She lived all of her life in Nodaway County, MO, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, MO. Barbara retired from the Dempsey-Harden Oil Company, Maryville, MO On June 3, 1961, Barbara was united in marriage to Max E. Glidden in Clearmont, MO, he survives of the home. Other survivors include her children, David S. Glidden, Lynda L. and husband Brett White, and Ryan P. Glidden, all of Maryville, MO. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Duncan, of Florida, David S. Glidden II, and Daniel Glidden, both of Maryville, MO, and Deryk Hagey, and Baleigh Hagey, both of Burlington Junction, MO. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. Scott Bostwick, 49, of Maryville, Mo., died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. Scott was born June 22, 1961, in Omaha, Neb., to Robert Bostwick and June Staab Bostwick Blair. He was a 1979 graduate of Omaha North High School and he received his bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan, where he was a four-year letter winner and was inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was united in marriage to Susan Marie Duckworth, December 30, 1988, in Omaha. They have two children, Leah and Eric. Scott was named the 18th head football coach at Northwest Missouri State University in December 2010. Prior to that, he had been the football team’s defensive coordinator since 1994. As Northwest’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, he was the 2007 American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year and was part of a coaching staff that won 12 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships, three NCAA national championships and led the Bearcats to seven title game appearances in the last 13 seasons. In addition, Scott coached 20 defensive players who combined to appear on numerous All-America teams, and he coached 54 Bearcats who combined to earn 83 All-MIAA honors. Throughout his years as a coach, Scott made a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of student-athletes, not only as a coach, but also as a mentor and a friend. Scott also was defensive coordinator at Nebraska Wesleyan from 1986 to 1990 and at Western Washington University from 1990 to 1994. He was a member of the St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and the Elk’s Lodge, of Maryville; and the AFCA. Scott is survived by his wife, Sue, and children, Leah and Eric, of the home. He is also survived by his parents: June Blair and Robert Bostwick, both of Omaha; brothers: Todd (Ginger) Bostwick, Omaha; Brent Bostwick, Omaha and Chad (Kelly) Bostwick, Warrensburg, Mo.; sisters: Robin (George) Weingaertner, Omaha; Julie (Jon) Ish, Omaha; Debra (Tom) Clark, Omaha; and Leslie (Matt) Patterson, Omaha; step-father: Gary Blair, Omaha; step-brothers: Jon Blair, Maxwell Blair, Marlon Blair and Magdeil Blair, all of Omaha; and a step-sister: Lemmy Wright, Omaha. A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Bearcat Stadium where the family invites the public to embrace a game-day atmosphere. A public viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. in the Mary Linn Auditorium. Wayne Eugene Morriss, 77 of Maryville, Missouri died on Friday, June 17, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri. Born in Andrew County, May 2, 1934, he was the son of the late William Bishop and Mary Elma (Lininger) Morriss. He was united in marriage to Patricia Rose Nehls, May 1, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2001. He was a retired driver for J.B. Hunt Trucking Company, Kansas City, Missouri, and a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Wayne served his country from 1953-1955 in the United States Army. Surviving are sons, David (Angela) Morriss and Raymond Morriss, both of Guilford, MO, Eric (Lisa) Morriss, Huber Heights, Ohio, daughters, Diana Nelson, Guilford, MO, Deborah Morriss, Shawnee Mission, KS and Julie Morriss, Grandview, MO, brothers, Erwin Morriss, Waynesville, MO, Delmar Morriss, Harrisonville, MO, Charles Morriss, LaRue, TX, sisters, Anna Mary Snyder, Roach, MO, Rosaline Valens, San Diego, CA, Alene Mooneyhan, OK, 10 grand children, and 13 great grand children. | 005Agnes Evalena Graham, the daughter of George and Ruby (Goodwin) Rhamy was born September 17, 1927 in Corning, Iowa. She died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 83 years and 9 months. Agnes was raised in the Corning and Carbon area where she attended school with Johnny Carson. She was a graduate of Corning High School. Agnes was united in marriage to Marvin Francis Graham on July 28, 1948 in Clarinda, Iowa. They had lived in Villisca and Clarinda. In the late 1990's, Agnes made her home in Red Oak. She was a cook in many restaurants over the years. Agnes loved to play bingo and poker. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin on February 5, 1971; five children: Vicky Cozad, Marvin Duane Graham, Floyd Graham, Terry Graham and David Graham; two brothers: Darrell Rhamy and Jim Briggs; and four sisters: Wanda Dozier, Bertha Squires, Thelma Rhamy and Bonnie Telschow. Agnes is survived by five children: Merlyn Hale, Becky Whited, Jerry Graham, Dale Graham and wife Cherie all of Red Oak, IA and Evalena Gregory and husband Stan of Ft. | 006 Letha Louella Sherrill Wall was born September 16, 1915 to Charley Sherrill and Grace Mae Savacool at her grandparents’ home near Denver, Missouri. She passed away at home in Bedford, Iowa on June 29, 2011. She attended the Dry School and graduated from Grant City High School in 1934. Letha married Duane "Bill" Wall on October 10, 1934. To this union were born four children: Donald, Donna, Angiline, and Shirley. She was a member of the Blockton Christian Church which she joined in 1949. During her lifetime she was a member of the Blockton Eastern Star, Sunny Corner Farm Club, and several card and coffee clubs. Letha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, daughter Angiline, son Donald and his wife June, granddaughter Debbie Clear, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by daughter Donna and husband Glenn Dukes of Phoenix, Arizona and daughter Shirley and husband James Winemiller of Bedford, Iowa, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Letha loved to play cards with her family and working in her flowers. She will be missed by all but now becomes the newest shining star. May we all be as strong a person as she was. | 007Lyle Wesley Sunderman age 74 of Clarinda, IA was called home by his Lord on June 23, 2011 at 11:55 pm at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1936 at Hepburn, IA. He was a welcome tax deduction for his parents, Lorenz & Beulah (Hughes) Sunderman. Lyle attended McCunn, Lincoln, & Immanuel Lutheran Schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1955. Lyle married the love of his life, Ardith Herzberg on October 12, 1958. They were blessed with three children: Alan, Marlin and Rhonda. Lyle followed in his father's footsteps as a farmer except for 3 months in California at a 9 to 5 job. The love of the land called him back to Iowa. Lyle was a 5th generation member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. His great-great-grandfather was a charter member. Lyle felt the need to start out the week right by taking the family to Sunday worship and Bible class. Throughout the years he served in many offices & committees. Music was an important part of his life. At the age of 11, he played the coronet with the Clarinda Municipal Band. Lyle's mother arranged music for him & his brother, Norman, who played the trombone. They entertained at many gatherings throughout the area. He sang bass in the "Fuzz & Shine Quartet" with Joel, Ron, and Jerry Wagoner. They sang at many funerals and other events including the community production of Music Man in 1987 and 1996. Lyle & Ardith sang in the church choir most of their married life. A favorite hobby was fishing the local ponds & Lake of the Woods, MN. A yearly family trip to Minnesota provided many good memories and fish fries at home. Lyle spent many years along the sidelines cheering on his children in all their endeavors. Later on, watching his grandsons and granddaughters made him the proudest. Hours and miles added up since he was their biggest fan. Cowboy Church enriched his faith by spreading God's Word through song. He attended all services and concerts in the park & felt privileged when asked to sing with them. He was thankful that God gave him breath to sing even though he needed a high level of oxygen the last several years. Lyle was preceded into death by his parents Lorenz and Beulah Sunderman. He is survived by his wife Ardith of Clarinda, IA, son, Alan Lyle Sunderman and his wife Denise of Clarinda, IA and their children Austin Lyle Sunderman and wife Alison, Elijah Alan, Cluj, Romania, and Derek Alan Sunderman and wife Kristin and their son Beck Thomas of West Des Moines, IA, son, Marlin Jay Sunderman and wife Mary and son Daniel Flor of Edina, MN, and daughter, Rhonda Sue Pitman and husband Douglas and their children Julie JoAnna, Lisa Mae, and Samuel Lyle Pitman of Granger, IA, brother Norman Sunderman, and wife Hazel, Plattsmouth, NE, and numerous family members and friends. Doris Marie Damewood was born February 15, 1927, the daughter of Stanley Damewood and Donna Jobe Damewood on their farm home south of Siam, Iowa. Doris grew up attending the Fine and Siam rural schools in Taylor County, graduating from the Bedford High School with the Class of 1944. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University and taught school for three years in Taylor County. In July of 1947, she was united in marriage to Harry Northover and they moved to the State of Washington. They resided in Tacoma, Yakima and Seattle where Doris was employed as a service representative for the Bell Telephone Company. In 1954, they returned to Iowa, living in Gravity where they operated a greenhouse. In 1963, Doris joined the U.S. Postal System as a Clerk in Gravity, later transferring to Bedford. She retire din March of 1987, after completing 23 years of service. Harry died in 1992, after 45 years of married life. Doris was united in marriage to Walter Nicholson in June of 2000. They made their home in Bedford. To each of them, this was a joyful end to years of loneliness and sadness. Each felt very blessed and continued to thank God for giving them each other at their age in life! Doris joined the Methodist Church at Siam early in life later transferring her membership to Bedford and Gravity. She was a member of the Bedford American Legion Auxiliary serving as Chaplin for many years. She was also a long-time member of the Untied Methodist Women’s Organization. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of eleven years, Walter Nicholson of Bedford; two cousins, Wilma Anderson of Bedford and Mary Lou Miller of Lenox; a nephew Larry Newkirk and wife Linda and their two daughters; along with three step-sons, Eric, Norman and Lynn Nicholson and their families; along with a community of friends. Maria Consuelo (Alvarez) Jackson was born February 8, 1929 in Contraestaca Sinaloa, Mexico the daughter of Daniel Alvarez and Maria Dolores (Salcido) Alvarez. Maria grew up in Mexico attending school. She was untied in marriage to Glen Jackson on April 4, 1959, in Tijuana, Mexico. The couple moved to San Diego, California in 1963. In 1969, the moved to Blockton, Iowa, family settling in Lenox, Iowa in 1971. Maria worked a variety of jobs throughout her life. Maria worked for 30 years at the Sheridan Egg Plant, later Michael Foods, she also worked for several years at Totes. Maria faithfully attended the Lenox Christian Church. She was loving, generous and giving person always putting other people’s needs ahead of her own. She possessed a forgiving heart and soul, and her family was her whole life, she was always there for them! She always took great pride in them and their activities. She traveled with Glen with they were younger going back to Mexico, San Diego and to Europe. Maria was a wonderful cook who could ‘make anything taste great’. Cooking always, not with a recipe, but with love. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidery work, always giving what she made away to family. Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend are her loving husband of fifty-two years, Glen Jackson of Lenox; two daughters, Irma Jacobs and Art Porras of Merced, California; and Patti Weaver and husband Delvin of Des Moines, Iowa; a son-in-law, Steven Jacobs of Paulden, Arizona; four grandchildren, Michael and Laurie Jacobs; and Eric and David French; two step-grandchildren Nikki and Craig Weaver; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. | 010Irene Ann Bryte was born October 18, 1918 in Farragut, Iowa, the daughter of Henry W. and Minnie (Ebert) Laumann. She passed away on Thursday morning, June 9, 2011 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 22 days. Irene grew up in Fremont County, Iowa where she attended country school and graduated from Farragut High School. She worked as a sales clerk at George Jay Drug Store for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. She was also active in the B.P.W., American Legion Auxiliary, Christian Women and Angel Quilters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ronald Bryte; her brother, Arnold Laumann and his wife Nina; her sisters, Dorothy Salfrank, Mildred Hensley and Vivian McLaren. BOB BAILEY Robert Lee Bailey, Sr., (“Bob”) passed on Wednesday morning quietly at his home in Clarinda, Iowa, after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer. Robert Lee Bailey, Sr., (“Bob”) was born October 9, 1938, at Edgar, Nebraska, to Leonard Ovid Bailey and Maude Bernice (Young) Bailey. He was united in marriage July 9, 1961, to Linda Ridgway at the Methodist Church, Fairfield, Nebraska. Bob served as City Manager of Clarinda, Iowa, for 23 years. He also worked as Assistant Manager in the Business Office of the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda. Prior to that, Bob worked his way up from the Garden Department to the Management Office of Montgomery Wards Store. He also had experience with the Clay County Roads Department. Bob was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Clarinda, Iowa, for many years. He enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as a trustee. Bob was an avid reader and author. Harry John Gustav Wagoner of Clarinda passed away on June 21, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri from complications of lymphoma. Harry was born November 1, 1929, on a farm near Clarinda, to Elisabeth (Hollmeyer) and Martin Wagoner. He was baptized December 1, 1929 and confirmed May 24, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Harry attended Spring Hill Country School and was in the Army from February, 1951 to February, 1953. On June 14, 1957, Harry was united in marriage to Phyllis Farquhar at the United Presbyterian Church, College Springs, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Kevin, Shirley and Brian. After working various jobs including farming, the dairy operation of the Mental Health Institute, and the telephone company, Harry began his career with the United States Postal Service in November, 1957. He became Postmaster in Clarinda in 1977 and retired in 1987. Harry was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, active as an Elder, choir member, Life Light leader, Evangelism Committee member, and confirmation and bible class teacher. He was an active member of Lutheran Layman’s League and a long-time member and past president of the Lion’s Club. He also volunteered as a health care transporter. Harry enjoyed golfing, family vacations, and travels to Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Wales, Hawaii and Canada. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan, attending many games at Busch Stadium with family. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lisle and Marion Farquhar; sister, Irene Mellencamp and husband Franklin; brothers-in-law, Donald Van Fosson and Fredrick Schlender. He grew up on a farm west of Hopkins, Missouri and graduated from North Nodaway High School in 1974. Ronnie married Shari Wheeler and they had two children, Michael and Jamie. The couple later divorced. He later married Donna Ware. She passed away in 2006. Ronnie and Dawn Pedersen were united in marriage February 13, 2009. Ronnie spent most of his working life in packing plants. He was an outdoorsman enjoying camping, fishing, and horse riding when he was younger. Ronnie had an extensive knife collection that he was proud of. He had a special spot in his heart for his dog, Faith also loving called Pudden Head. Preceding Ronnie in death were his parents and sister, Linda Koger. | 014Donna Re (Ward) Golden was born on December 10, 1936 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of William Samuel and Hazel Marie (Kier) Ward. Donna entered into eternal peace on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Donna’s early years were spent in Shenandoah where she attended school. On February 19, 1955 she was united in marriage to Allen Golden at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. The couple made their first home in Council Bluffs and later returned to Shenandoah to raise their family. Donna worked for Lake’s Nursery, Hansen’s Jewelry, and later for Allen at State Farm Insurance as his secretary. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of PTA and the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. Donna loved drawing, hand sewing, being a good friend, and trying her best to help others solve their problems. She just loved her children and grandchildren so much. Everyone who knew Donna loved her. She used to pierce the ears of girls from all over Southwest Iowa. She loved the outdoors and embraced life. She especially loved to dress up for Halloween, and was even on the Dr. San Guinary Creature Feature Show out of Omaha. She never let the grass grow under her feet. A legacy that she wanted to pass on to the next generation. She was preceded in death by her parents. Deborah Leslie Wall 57, of Pickering, MO passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at her home south of Pickering. Deborah was born on July 14, 1953 in Kansas City, MO to Edmund Leslie and Eleanor Douglas Clarkson Wall. Her Father passed away in 1987. She was a resident of Pickering for the past ten years, and a former resident of Kansas City, MO, and Norman, OK. She graduated from the Moore-Norman Vocational School of Practical Nursing in 1994. Deborah was employed as an LPN at the Living Community in St. Joseph, MO. And was formerly Postmaster at the Graham, MO post office. Deborah is survived by a daughter, Adrienne N. Judge Montgomery L. (Monty) Wilson 86, of Maryville, MO passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO, from complications from cancer surgery. Monty was born on August 3, 1924 in Guilford, MO to Roxie C. and Beulah M. Richards Wilson, they preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard C. Wilson, and his son, Richard James Wilson, in 2008. Monty graduated from the Skidmore Missouri High School in 1942, and attended Baker University in Baldwin Kansas. He then entered the U.S. Army Air Corp, and was a WW II veteran, being discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, before transferring to the University of Missouri/Columbia. He earned his BS in Agriculture Economics, and continued at the University of Missouri, School of Law, and earned his JD degree in 1952. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. On August 20, 1949 in Elmo, MO, Monty was united in marriage to Irma Lee Hull, she survives of the home. Monty practiced law for several years in Maryville, and was the Maryville, MO city attorney. He also continued to farm in the Skidmore area for most of his working life. In 1958, Monty was elected to the bench as the Probate Magistrate Judge, now the Associate Circuit Judge. He held that position for 18 years. He then spent 12 years as the 4th Judicial Circuit Judge, and retired from that position in 1988. Monty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. He was a member of the Maryville Host Lions Club, and for several years had coordinated the clubs Meals-on-wheels program at the Senior Center. In 2009, Monty received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award. He was a member of the Skidmore Missouri Masonic Lodge. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of St. Joseph, and spent several years on the Scottish Rite degree team. He was a member of the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, MO. Monty was the former Scout Master and spent 20 years with Troop 74, BSA of Maryville, MO, and was a member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say, St. Joseph, MO. He was also a member of the Skidmore and Maryville American Legion Posts. He was a member of the Nodaway County Democratic Club. Monty spent 19 years as the secretary/treasurer of the Skidmore, Missouri Alumni Association. In 1988, he received the Optimist Club’s, Law Enforcement Award. Monty loved to travel abroad and in the United States, and had spent the last 22 winters in Mesa, AZ. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Irma Lee Wilson, of the home, Maryville, MO, and his daughter, Lee Ann and husband Anthony Cocchiara, Buffalo, MO. His two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Redd, and husband Shannon Mosby, Buckeye, AZ, and Phillip A. Wilson, Kansas City, MO, and his great grandchildren, Olivia Mosby, and Jackson Mosby, both of Buckeye, AZ. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. The Pastor Scott Moon will be the officiant. The body will arrive at the church one hour prior to services. Joann Marie Holt passed away suddenly at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 21, 2011, at the age of 56 years and 3 months. Joann was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, but most important a grandmother. Joann was born March 21, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, to adoptive parents Edward and Josephine Wilkens. She grew up in Illinois and Wisconsin. Joann was united in marriage to her best friend and loving husband Steven K. Holt on July 12, 1980, after a storybook romance. Joann touched so many lives from coast to coast, and she never met a stranger. She spent most of her career in the insurance business and raising seven children to be who they are today. She was a kind, caring, compassionate and beautiful woman who will forever be missed. Preceding her in death were her father in-law Horace Holt, and brother in-law Larry Holt. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Steven Holt, mother: Nina McClure, Sidney, Iowa, three daughters: Amy Ferguson, Phoenix, Celeste Holt-Hudson, Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Kellie (Bill) Crouse of South Dakota. Four sons: Joel Ziolek, Trevor, Wisconsin, Todd Holt and fiancé Loraine Garcia, Phoenix, Jason (Trisha) Holt, Sidney, Iowa, and Steve (Demaris) Holt of Connecticut, a sister in-law: Debra (Richard) Payne, brothers in-law: Jerry (Karen) Holt and Greg (Tracy) Holt, 23 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Gary Lee Crater, 67 of Maryville, Missouri passed away, Friday, June 24, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Gary was born March 5, 1944 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the son of Norman Taylor and Lovina Ruth (Houchens) Crater. A 1962 graduate of Ravenwood High School, Ravenwood, Missouri, he married Judy Ann Black on June 3, 1964 in Maryville, Missouri.
Gary was a member of the Methodist Faith and he worked in maintenance at Northwest Missouri State University for 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew: Shaun Goodvin.
Survivors include his wife: Judy Crater, of their home in Maryville; son: Chris (Lisa) Crater, Pickering, Missouri; four grandchildren: Christy Crater, Kyle Kelmel, Taylor Crater and Adam Crater; three great-grandchildren: MaKenzie, MaKenna and Chanler Fattig; a sister: Sharon Gallop, Kansas City, Missouri and a brother: Bruce Crater, Tucson, Arizona.

She was born July 19, 1923 in Skidmore, Missouri, the daughter of Claude and Nettie Bell (Keith) Hord. A graduate of Skidmore High School, she married James E “Hooker” Newton on April 2, 1941, in Skidmore. Aleta was a homemaker and a member of the Skidmore Christian Church. Stephen Maurice Jackson, 73 of Clearmont, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St Joseph, Missouri after a courageous battle with illnesses. He was born June 29, 1938 in Skidmore, Missouri, the son of Robert and Adeline (Bennett) Jackson. A 1956 graduate of Skidmore High School, Steve married Barbara Anne Sumy on September 7, 1958 in Skidmore. A breeder of Quarter Horses and farmer at heart, Steve had owned the Maryville H & R Block Franchise for thirty-two years and had done tax preparation work for them a total of forty-four years. He had also managed a Kenny Shoe’s store in several states and ranched in Montana. He was a member of the Clearmont Methodist Church and the American Quarter Horse Association. Steve was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Jackson, of their home; sons: Keith (Lori) Jackson, Hannibal, Missouri and Kurt (Lynn) Jackson, Liberty, Missouri; five grandchildren: Nathanael, Eli, Luke, Seth and Noah Jackson; brothers: Duane (Mary Lou) Jackson, St Joseph, Missouri and Jim (Ruth) Jackson, Billings, Montana. She grew up in Maryville, Missouri until the unfortunate passing of her father. Connie and her two brothers moved to a farm south of Bedford when their mother remarried. Connie then attended and graduated from Bedford Community High School in 1972. Connie married David Diggs and they had three children, Joshua, Rachel, and Matthew. Connie spent most of her working life in accounting departments until she settled and finished as Accounting Supervisor with Nucor/LMP in Maryville, Missouri. Connie went back to college after her kids were grown where she proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University. Connie greatly enjoyed working outside the home. Connie’s greatest love was her kids and the grandchildren. Connie never saw a child she didn’t like and that is especially was true of her grandchildren. Connie had an avid love of cooking and working in the yard. Connie’s desire was to mother and to be that ‘Old fashioned, good cooking grandmother with a home full of love and noisy happy kids’. Connie lived between her families, her work family at Nucor/LMP and her home family and loved them all. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David Diggs of Maryville, Missouri; son Joshua and wife Kelley; daughter, Rachel and husband Brian of Burlington Jct., Missouri; and son Matthew and wife Lindsay of Pickering, Missouri; grandsons; Trace, Grant, Grey, Isaac and two granddaughters; Piper and Isabella; mother, Laveta; three brothers, Richard, Wayne, and Kelly; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends, as Connie never knew a stranger. | 023Martin Laverne (Marty) Moore was born July 27, 1937 in Villisca, IA; the son of Harold Laverne ‘Pepper’ and Frances Loretta (Long) Moore. Marty grew up on a farm near Bushville, going to Frog Pond School and Corning High School. He was a member of Fairview Church south of Corning. Marty married Delores Jean Sanburn on September 28, 1957 in Maryville, MO and to this union were born two children: Marilyn and Jeff. Marty farmed near Bushville and Villisca, IA and later also had a stock truck in the Guss area. Marty and Jean moved to Villisca in 1966. He worked at Wilson Foods in Clarinda for 17 years, raising livestock on his acreage in Nodaway. In 1989, due to health issues, he established a residence in Arizona and was near Jeff's family. He enjoyed traveling around Arizona. In 1995, Jean retired to Arizona with him. In 2004, they moved back to Clarinda to be near Marilyn and her family. Marty enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren and also his cats. Marty passed away July 3, 2011 at Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents. | 024Patricia Ann Lasley Welch was born December 30, 1941 at Clarinda, Iowa to Theodore and Zola Nina (Myers) Lasley. She passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her residence in Clarinda. Pat graduated Clarinda High School in 1960 recently celebrating her 50th class reunion. Pat was devoted and cherished her family--all three generations someday wishing to have a house big enough for all to live together! Her favorite things in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, also taking in flea markets and bingo at her favorite places. Those who knew Pat knew she was a collector and enthusiast of salt and pepper shakers. Her music taste was 1970's both folk and rock. She had an independent streak through her not allowing anyone to help cook for those holiday dinners and even in her illness she was meticulous in housekeeping. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Zola Lasley. | 025Doris Lorene Miller, 88, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Westridge Quality Care Center in Clarinda, IA, where she had been a resident for the past two and a half years. Doris was a life-long Clarinda resident, born November 25, 1922, in Clarinda to Stephen Glen and Lena Margaret (Probasco) Beery. She graduated from Clarinda High School in 1941. On September 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leo Elkins Miller at Maryville, MO. Doris and Leo maintained their home at the Miller century farm southeast of Clarinda for nearly 50 years, before moving to Clarinda in 1990. Doris was a homemaker and farm wife, raising chickens, gardening, and assisting Leo with many of the farm chores and activities over the years. She was a faithful member of the Shambaugh Church of God and was active in the WCSC women’s ministry there. She was also an excellent seamstress and avid baseball fan, watching countless games on TV even in later years. Doris is survived by two daughters, Sandra Bramble and husband, Ron, of Clarinda, and Bev Florke, also of Clarinda; six grandchildren, Jeff Bramble and wife, Tracey, of Ames, IA; Steve Bramble and wife, Margaret, of Dallas Center, IA; Diane Joslin and husband, Jeff, of Story City, IA; Scott Florke and wife, Debbie, of Council Bluffs, IA; Alicia Ozenberger and husband, Jason, of Ashland, MO; and Matthew Florke of Clarinda. There are 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo, in 1994; half-brother, Dean Beery; sister, Ruth Burk and husband, Bill; brother, Gerald Beery and wife, Marie; and son-in-law, Jim Florke. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 6, at 10:30am at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda. The family will greet visitors from 7-8pm on Tuesday, July 5, also at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at the Clarinda Cemetery |
