Bill Ross, 76, of Braddyville, Iowa, died Monday evening, January
17, 2000, at Clarinda Regional Health Center. Bill was born August 26,
1923, at Quitman, Missouri, to Oppie Henderson and Lois Frances Nichols
Ross.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in China, Burma and
India. September 20, 1946, he was united in marriage to Florence
Reynolds, who survives. Bill farmed, trucked and did custom farming in
the Braddyville area. He was a 20-year member of the New Market Fire
Department. Bill was a member of the American Legion for 52 years,
member of the Clarinda Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star of
Siam.
Survivors include his wife, Florence, of the home; sons, Gary Ross and
wife Myra of Maitland, Missouri, Lanny Ross and wife Carol of New
Market, Iowa; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four step
great grandchildren; brothers, Byron R. Ross and wife Rose of North
Liberty, Iowa, and Paul I. Ross and wife Barbara of Clarinda, Iowa. He
was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Frances Ross, and one
great grandson.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 20, 2000, at
Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Iske officiating. Masonic
Rites were held Wednesday, January 19, followed by visitation at the
funeral home. Burial was in the Memory Cemetery, New Market, with
military rites by New Market Legion Post #300. Memorials may be
directed to the Braddyville Rescue or to the New Market Rescue.
