Death Notice card from: Donna Collier Dietrich - dietricd@fyi.net |
My cousin, found a death notice in her mom's stuff for a Sarah Elizabeth
Pope, she was born in Nodaway County, September 11, 1850 and died at her
home in Skidmore, MO. I have scanned this and like it put on the Nodaway County, Mo web site. We don't have any idea why it was in her mom's stuff. I would like to find a connection also, to see if it would lead to maybe someone that should be in our family. We have Osborn's and Cox's from Grayson Co. VA in our family. Donna in PA |
Other data on Sarah Pope: |
Sarah Smock and Leander J. Pope were married 22 Jan 1867 in Nodaway County, Mo. |
And I just got in the mail today a obit of Bertha Pope (who is married
to my T. L. Osborn). The obit says she was born in Skidmore,
Missouri in 1879! Also a marriage announcement said they were married
at her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leander Pope in Madison County, NE.
The obit says she was about 13 years old when she came to Madison County,
NE. That would have been in 1892, unless the obit has a wrong date.
I also found in Nodaway Co. MO marriages there was a John J. Hall to Sarah
Smock, 21 Aug 1851, so there must have been another Sarah Smock...maybe
a mother? But I do feel this Sarah Elizabeth Pope death notice belongs
as a mother to my Bertha Pope. I didn't find anything in the 1900
census in Independence Twp., Nodaway Co. MO, but will go back and check.
Sarah Elizabeth Pope, must have gone back to MO in her later years.
She is buried at Groves Cemetery in Nodaway Co, but there is no listing
on the web site. I wonder were Leander is buried? I need to
do some more checking, there is only one cemetery listing on the web for
Madison Co., NE and I have an Osborn cemetery listing and he's not there.
We just have no idea how my aunt got this death notice on Sarah.
If you see something I don't see, please let me know. |
