Ray, Lewis F. - Rites for Lewis F. Ray Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Ida Miller home, southeast of Elmo, for Lewis Franklin Ray, who died at 8:15 o'clock Saturday night at the Miller residence. Rev Ted Masters officiated and burial was in the Lamar cemetery. He was born November 3, 1865, at Tecumseh, Neb., and had resided at the present residence since January, 1930. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by two sons, Manuel A. Ray, Missouri Valley, Ia., and Ora Ray, Lincoln, Neb., and two daughters, Mrs Anna Collison, Lincoln, and Mrs Mildred Likens, Omaha, Neb. The Maryville Daily Forum, Oct 13, 1941 |
Weeks, Myrtle, 84, Bellflower, Calif., died Thursday (Dec 26, 1985) in Bellflower. She was born Nov 26, 1901, in Elmo to Mr and Mrs Dennis Hutchings. She was reared in Elmo and Maryville before moving to California. She is survived by a son, Ivan Spangler, Bellflower; a daughter, Pauline DeDomenic, Palm Springs, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs Frank Campbell, Elmo Services are set for Monday in Whittier, Calif. Wilbert G. "Bus" Hamilton, 92, died Wednesday (Nov 2, 1983) at the Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville, where he had been a resident for the past several years. Mr Hamilton was born April 28, 1891 in Fairmont. He was the son of Lafollete and Eleanor (Mosley) Hamilton. He was in the 88th Division, 351st Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army and served in France during World War I. After his discharge from the service he homesteaded in Wyoming and later returned to Elmo where he lived until going to the nursing home. He was a charter member of the Bradley-Carver American Legion Post #492 of Elmo and was past commander of the Post and served many years as adjutant. He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held Saturday (Nov 5, 1983) at the Elmo Christian Church with the Rev Howard Snow officiating. Mrs Elvin Lamb was pianist. Pallbearers were Kenneth McIntrye, W.C. Nuckolls, Robert Richardson, Hubert Twaddle, Andrew VanSickle and Charles Younger. Military graveside rites were provided by Bradley-Carver American Legion Post 492 and interment was in the High Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Elmo Memorial Chapel. |
Eris A. Hamilton, 64, Burlington Junction, died Thursday, April 26, at Heartland West Hospital in St Joseph [Missouri]. Born Sept 3, 1925 to Leonard and Isora Abbott Hamilton at Elmo, Mr Hamilton was a farmer and mechanic. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Disabled Veterans Association and the Rolla Dix Post #315 American Legion in Burlington Junction. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Survivors include four children, Kristina Cross of Hopkins; David Hamilton of Monroe, La., Leon Hamilton and Jana Mathers, both of Burlington Junction; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 pm Monday, April 30, at Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel in Burlington Junction with the Rev Dean Duff officiating. R. Leland Hamilton, 75, Manonville, died Sunday, March 8, 1992 at Ozarks Methodist Manor, Manonville. Mr Hamilton had lived in House Springs until 1986. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a 1941 graduate of Northwest State Teachers College, Maryville and was active in management of YMCA until becoming excecutive director of the Bar Association of metro St Louis in 1950 where he worked until retiring in 1979. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Wray. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Hamilton, Lakeland, Fla and Karen Szydlewski, High Ridge; one son, Raun Hamilton, Springfield; six grandchildren and two sisters. Services will be hled Tuesday, March 17 at 10:30 am at the First Methodist Church, Manonville. Eva B. Hamilton, 87, Clearmont, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994 at her home. Born April 2, 1907 in Burlington Junction to Schuylar and Nancy David Johnson, she was a homemaker. She married James Thomas Hamilton, Nov 21, 1924 in Maryville. Ms Hamilton was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clearmont; the 60 Plus Club and the Community and Home Club, all of Clearmont. She was preceded in death by: her husband; two sons, James Hamilton and Albert Hamilton; one daughter, Marjorie Whipple; five brothers, Dan Johnson, Ivan Johnson, Levi Johnson, Emery Johnson and Guy Johnson; and three sisters, Elma Laslay, Beulah Piatt and Nellie Johnson. Survivors include: four sons, Gerald Hamilton, Clearmont, Larry Hamilton, Coin, Iowa, Garry Hamilton, Diagonal, Iowa, and Dallas Hamilton, Burlington Junction; one daughter, Deloris Argo, New Market, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is currently underway at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. The body will lie-in-state at the Methodist Church from 1 to 2 pm Thursday, immediately before services. Services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at United Methodist Church, Clearmont, with the Rev Jerry Geisert officiating. Burial will be in Clearmont Cemetery, Clearmont. Garry Lee Hamilton, 50, Diagonal, Iowa, died Friday, July 8, 1994 in an accident on his way home with a tractor and mower. Born May 3, 1944 in Clearmont to J.T. and Eva Beatrice Johnson Hamilton, he had taught school in Breckenridge, Collins, Iowa, and Mr Ayr, Iowa. He began working for Crestland Cooperative of Creston, Iowa, in 1980, where he was currently Seed and Petroleum Manager. He married Andrea Lynn Eblen, July 15, 1963 in Maryville. Mr Hamilton was a 1962 graduate of West Nodaway High School in Burlington Junction, and a 1968 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a B.S. in secondary Education. He also had a B.S. in Agriculture Business, which he earned in 1979. Survivors include his wife of the home, Diagonal, Iowa; one son, Dr Stacey Alyn [Hamilton] of Knoxville, Iowa; one sister, Deloris Argo of New Market, Iowa; three brothers, Dallas Hamilton of Burlington Junction; Gerald Hamilton of Clearmont, and Larry Hamilton of Coin, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Clearmont, with the Rev Eydie Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont. McNeill, Joseph Edward - was born in Algona, Iowa, on May 4, 1920, the 10th of 11 children born to Edward and Catherine McNeill. Joe attended public schools in Algona, and graduated in 1937. During his school career he was active in athletics and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Idaho in Moscow, which he attended for two semesters. Joe returned to Kossuth County, Iowa and coached at St Cecilia's Academy in Algona for one year before he was inducted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1942 and served until he received a medical discharge and returned to Iowa. Joe then attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he played football for three seasons, including competing in the 1946 Raisin Bowl against Fresno State; Drake won 13-12. On June 22, 1946, Joe married Bette Jeane Dobey of Park Ridge, Illinois. The couple lived in Des Moines for two years until Joe completed his degree at Drake in 1948. In the fall of '48, Joe began his teaching and coaching career in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Except for two years at Iowa Falls High School, Joe served 28 years coaching and teaching in Mount Ayr. Joe is the winningest coach in the history of Mount Ayr High School. He had a number of undefeated teams, including the 1963 season, for which he was named The Des Moines Register's Prep Coach of the Year. He was later inducted into the Iowa High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. At times he also coached baseball and basketball at Mount Ayr, including the 1954 basketball team which qualified for the state basketball tournament. In addition to his coaching and teaching duties, Joe was actively involved in local sports, where he officiated high school basketball, played on the town baseball team, bowled regularly, played golf and fished. Joe retired from coaching after the 1972 football season, and retired from teaching in 1976. He remained in Mount Ayr until 1993, when he and Bette moved to Maryville, Missouri. Joe is survived by his wife Bette; two sons, Michael Joseph McNeill of Portland, Oregon, and David Alan McNeill of West Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Nancy Jean Hurst of Maryville, Missouri, and Judith Ann Swalwell of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Tom NcNeill of Wells, Minnesota, and John McNeill of Algona, Iowa; and three sisters, Grace Nellis and Mary Larkin, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ethel Sheehan of Battle Creek, Michigan. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist church in Mount Ayr, Iowa on October 6, 1996. Officiating were Rev. Michael Druhl and Rev Merlin wilkins. Music was provided by Mrs Gregg Cannon and John Allen. Casketbearers were David Still, Chester Roed, James Saville, Malcolm Eighmy, Kelly Richards and Donald Dailey. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Cole, Dr Duane Mitchell, Earl Sickels, Charles Richards, Laurence Bishop, Max McGehee, Merrill Perry, Steve Roe and Phil Herrington. Standiford, Charles William Sr - Charles William Standiford Sr., 64, Maryville, died Tuesday, December 29, 1992 at St Francis Hospital, Maryville. Born Nov 24, 1928 in Maryville to William and Ruby Elizabeth Middleton Standiford, he had worked for the Center Milk Plant for 28 years and the Maryville Packing Plant for seven years and ARA at Northwest Missouri State University for six years. He married Margaret Louise Gigar on Oct 15, 1956 in Maryville. Mr Standiford was a member of the St Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Charles Standiford Jr., Maryville, David Standiford, St Joseph and Clyde Standiford, Quitman; two daughters, Ruby Twyman, Craig; and Cathi Peter, Maryville and 14 grandchildren. Visitation is currrently under way at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Parish and family rosary will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at St Gregory's Catholic church, Maryville.
