Margaret Alexander
Margaret
R. [ose] (Thompson) Alexander,
77, Hopkins died November 5, 1998 at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs.
Alexander, a homemaker, also had
worked as a secretary for the Nodaway County Agricultural Stabilization
Conservation Service office, also at the Maryville Light and Power, and other
businesses.
Born
near Hopkins on July 9, 1921 she was a lifelong resident of the Hopkins area.
She graduated from the Hopkins High School and attended Northwest Missouri
State University, Maryville.
Mrs.
Alexander was a member of the
First Christian Church, where she was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship
and Fairview Social Club, all of Hopkins.
On
June 6, 1943 she married Robert Alexander in Wichita Falls, Texas. He survives of the home.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charles
A. and Elizabeth E. Thompson; a
brother, Harland Thompson, and
two aunts, Amanda Dougherty and Elizabeth Underwood, who
assisted in rearing her.
Survivors
include: two sons, Stephen,
Hopkins and Dr. David, Kansas
City; two daughters, Kristen Guthrie, Clearmont and Michele Weddle, Maryville; a sister, Mary E. Kral, Sunrise Beach, MO; six grandchildren; and two
great grandchildren.
Services
were held November 7, 1998 at First Christian Church, Hopkins with burial in
the Hopkins Cemetery. Arrangements were by Swanson Price Funeral Home, Hopkins.

Allen former Braddyville farmer
Floyd H Allen, 71, of Pickering, Mo, died Sunday morning [April 22nd]
at the hospital in Maryville after an extended illness.
He has lived on a farm near Pickering for 34 years, and
formerly was of the Braddyville farm area. He was born near Bedison, Mo, on Aug
16, 1901.
His funeral is at Price Funeral Home at Maryville at 1:30
pm Wednesday and burial at the Braddyville cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, the former Neva [Elizabeth]
Hiles and four
sons, Merlin of
Cameron, Mo, Elvin of Siam, Buddy Dean of Maryville, Mo, and Donnis of Pickering, Mo. The couple has
ten grandchildren and one great grandson.

County's oldest citizen died
Mrs. Mary E. Baker, 104, of Burlington Jct., Mo, died Saturday night
at a rest home in Burlington Jct. She was Nodaway County’s oldest resident.
Her entire lifetime was
spent in that area. She is survived by a son, William, of Elmo and a number of
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm, Tuesday, at Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel at Burlington Jct. with burial in the
Ohio Cemetery there.

Mrs.
Black died after long illness
Mrs. Nellie Irene Black, 76, of Clarinda died Friday
morning at Municipal Hospital following a long illness. She was born Aug 12,
1896 at Quitman, Mo, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane Baker Bridges.
Mrs. Black had lived in Missouri before coming to Clarinda a few
years ago. Her home was at 301
East Logan.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Glen (Roberta Mae)
Young of
Shambaugh, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Black were held Sunday at Barr-Merrick
Funeral Chapel at Burlington Jct., Mo, with Rev. Lewis Hunter officiating.
Burial was in the Ohio Cemetery. Casket bearers were Marvin Evans, Gary Crowdy, Richard Bix, Dean Young,
Jim McAlpin and Robert Black. Mrs.
Doug Hill was organist and Nancy Fast soloist. Mrs. Emma Baves was at the register.

Mrs.
Carl died
at West Heights
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Carl, 78, of Clarinda were held this
Tuesday afternoon at the Lavelle Funeral Home, with Rev Lester Greenwood
officiating. Burial was in the Six Corners Cemetery at Elmo, Mo.
Casketbearers were Glen, Margin, Charles and Wilbur
Bloomfield. The organist was Mrs. Gene Garrett.
Mrs. Carl died Sunday morning at the West Manor Heights Nursing
Home. She had been there since December of last year.
She was born July 2, 1894 at Petersborough, Ontario,
Canada, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Connors. She came to Clarinda several
years ago, and had worked in the Harry Pfander home. Since 1960 she has been
living in the Opal Bloomfield Home.
She has no immediate survivors. |

Clark of Clarinda, died Friday at
a Shenandoah hospital.
He
is survived by three other sons, Lloyd Clark, Lebanon, Elvin Clark, Phoenix, Ariz, and Kenneth Clark, Shenandoah; two brothers, two sisters; 11
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were Monday in Shenandoah, graveside services at the Luteston Cemetery
in Sheridan, Mo.

William S [ineus] Crane, 85, of Burlington Jct, Mo, died
Monday morning at a Clearmont rest home where he had been a patient for a year.
He was born at Burlington Jct and spent his entire lifetime in that area.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm,
Wednesday, at Barr - Merrick Funeral Chapel at Burlington Junction with Rev
Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery.
Mr. Crane is survived by a son, George Crane of Maryville, a brother, Alfred
Crane of
Rushville, Neb, and two sisters, Anna Crane and Clara Smiley of Quincy, Ill.

Fletcher Dalbey killed in mishap
Fletcher
J [ones] Dalbey, 59, a prominent
Burlington Jct Angus cattle breeder, was killed Monday [May 20, 1974] in an
accident near his farm home. Working on a grain truck between the raised bed and
the truck frame, the hydraulic mechanism apparently failed. The bed pinned Dalbey between the bed and frame.
Services
were Thursday at the Burlington Jct Christian Church, burial in the Ohio
Cemetery. Barr-Merrick Chapel made arrangements.
Dalbey was born May 11, 1915, near
Maryville, the son of the late Fletcher J [ones] and Laura [Alice Staples]
Dalbey Sr. On Oct 9,1935, he was
married at Maryville, to Evaline Logan, who survives.
He
worked with 4-H, a leader of 25 years. He had registered Angus cattle and
Quarter Horses, and was a member of the Hoof and Horn Saddle Club, Burlington
Jct.
Besides
his wife, he is survived by daughter, Mrs Doris Hagey of Burlington Jct, a brother, George Dalbey of Burlington Jct, a sister, Mrs John
Dickerson [Dorothy] of Salisbury, and three grandchildren.

Everett Fast VA official
Funeral
services for Everett Fast, 76,
of Cincinnati, O, will be at 2 pm, Saturday [November 9, 1974] at Barr-Merrick
Chapel at Burlington Jct, Mo. Rev John Welch will officiate and burial will be
in the Ohio Cemetery there.
William
Everett Fast was born April 26,
1898, at Burlington Junction, the son of Miles and Lyda Potts Fast. He was married to Lucille Scott at Omaha, Neb. He attended high school at
Burlington Junction and lived in the vicinity until entering the Marines in WW
II.
After
the war he returned to Nodaway County for 12 years, then he served one year as
head of Veterans Administration in Washington D C. He moved to Cincinnati, O,
where he was regional office chief for VA until his retirement five years ago.
He
was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mr
Fast died Wednesday [November 6,
1974] at Veterans Hospital in Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife of the
home and a sister, Mrs Anna Belle Kosart of Wauconda, Ill.

Stephen Fine died from gun wounds
Stephen
Clem Fine, 20, of Braddyville
died Tuesday night [May 8, 1973] at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital from
injuries received last week in a gun accident.
He was a 1971 graduate of
New Market High School and had been engaged in farming near Braddyville. He was
born Aug 22, 1952 at Maryville.
Services
will be at 2 pm Friday at Wray Memorial United Methodist Church in Hopkins, Mo,
with Rev Cecil Latta of Clarinda and Rev David Carlson of Oakland, Neb,
officiating. Pallbearers are to be Ed Daly, Steven Wood, Rodger Leek, Duane
Hartstack, Rolland Carlson and Alan Burwell. Maurice Peve is soloist and Leta
Wiley organist. Burial will be in the Hopkins cemetery.
Survivors
include his wife, the former Teresa Tornholm, to whom he was married last March 9, his
parents, Mr and Mrs Roy Fine of Braddyville, a brother, Roy Maurice Fine Jr, of Braddyville, and a grandfather, Galen
Russell of Hopkins.
A
memorial fund is being established at the Wray church, and contributions can be
left at Wilson Grocery in Hopkins or with Rev Loren Daly of New Market.

for Mrs Ralph (Edna M) Folden,
74, are being held Tuesday following her death Sunday [February 17, 1974] at
her home in Burlington Junction. The funeral is to be at 2 pm at Barr-Merrick
Funeral Home with the Rev John Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Quitman
Cemetery.
Edna [Myrtle] Suttle was born at Quitman, her entire lifetime being spent in the Northwest Missouri area. She was married to Ralph Folden in March of 1920, and they have a daughter, Dorothy. Mrs Jody Barrett of Skidmore, Mo, is a sister. |

Mrs.
Vera Fuller died at hospital
Mrs. Vera Fuller, 80, of Burlington Junction, Mo, died this
Thursday morning at the Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient for a
month. Her husband Moses Fuller died in 1966. They had farmed northwest of Clearmont
before his death, then Mrs. Fuller moved to Burlington Junction.
She is survived by five sons: Paul of Maryville, Mo, Merlin and Ralph of Burlington Junction, Marvin and Lyle of Clearmont. A son Keith died in August of 1971. There
are 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A brother is John Harper, state of Washington and three
sisters: Phoebe Clayton and Beulah Gorrell of Clarinda and Ina Jones, state of Maryland.
Burial will be in the Clearmont cemetery. Other
arrangements are pending at Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel at Burlington Junction.

Mrs.
Golay died after long illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Pauline Golay, 82, were held this Thursday at the Church of the
Nazarene in Red Oak with burial at the LeMar Cemetery at Elmo, Mo. Mrs. Golay died Oct 22 at the Murphy
Memorial Hospital in Red Oak following a lengthy illness.
She was
born Aug 24, 1891, at Enid, Okla., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
[Eugene] Bradley [Geneva Stoaks]. She married Joseph Lee Golay, on Sept 2, 1908 at Hopkins, Mo. Mr. Golay died Feb 20, 1950. Mrs. Golay lived most of her life near Maryville and the last 2 1/2 years in Red Oak.
Survivors include five sons, Eddie of Berrien Springs, Mich., Albert of Flanderau, SD, David of Villisca, Joseph of Elmhurst, Ill., and George of Milwaukee, Wis., three
daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Hanna of Moberly, Mo, Mrs. Roger Garvin of Des Moines and Mrs. Melvin
Hogberg of Red
Oak; 33 grandchildren; 20 great grand-children; one brother, Ralph Bradley of Hopkins, Mo; three sisters,

Maryville, Mrs. N. A. De Vree of Federal Way, Wash, and Mrs. Russell Bissett [Opal Ellen] of Portland, Ore

Ruby Pauline Harvey, 54, of Elmo died Friday [January 18,
1974] at the Community
Hospital at Fairfax, and services are announced to be Tuesday at the Elmo United Methodist church. The family is meeting friends
at the Davis Funeral Home this Monday from 8 to 8:30 pm.
Mrs
Harvey was born March 25, 1919,
in the Siam community near Clarinda, daughter of Clarence and Lilly Clayton Henderson. She has been resident of Elmo since 1953. She was married to Frank Harvey at Clearmont, Mo, on April 7, 1940. She has been member of the Church of
Christ at Siam, active in the Legion Auxiliary and other community affairs
until her illness several months ago.
Her
husband survives her as do their children, Harold of Shenandoah, Darrell of Elmo, Carroll of Braddyville, brother, Luther Henderson of La Salle, Colo,
sisters, Mrs Marie Oxley of Greenfield, Mrs Claris Diedrick of Clawson, Mo, and seven grandchildren.
The service at the church will be at 2 pm with the Rev Charles Reed officiating, and burial at Elmo's High Prairie cemetery. |

Mrs. Stella May [Sumner] Hayden, 87, of Quitman, Mo, died
Wednesday in a St Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Hayden was born Aug 15, 1885 in Neodesha, Kan. She was married
to Walter J [ames] Hayden at Neodesha Feb 21, 1906. Hayden died Sept 13, 1972. She was a
member of the First Christian Church at Maryville.
Surviving are two sons, Charles W Hayden of Paola, Kan and Curtis
Hayden of
Clarinda, and eight daughters, Mrs. Rolland McGinness of Skidmore, Mrs. Lester
Pierpoint of
Quitman, Mrs. William Garrett, Mrs. John W Dowden and Mrs. Edwin Ballenger, all of Maryville, Mrs. LeRoy
Rickman of St
Joseph, Mrs. Lowell Holbrook of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Kenneth Leeson of Clarinda. There are, also
surviving, 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and seven great-great
grandchildren.
Services will be at Price Funeral Home in Maryville Saturday at 2pm with Rev Harry B Spears officiating. Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens. |

Del Holbrook's brother died

Nelson Holbrook, son of Isaac
and Etta Holbrook, died Nov 28 at
Columbia, Mo, after an extended illness.
He
was born Dec 18, 1895, in Braddyville where he spent most of his life until a
few years ago. He lived in Clarinda a few years where he painted, then moved to
Portland, Ore, where he worked in shipyards, retiring in Columbia, Mo.
He
was married to Dolly Bancroft in 1943. She survives him, as does one stepson, Blaine Bancroft and one brother, Del Holbrook of Clarinda.
Graveside
services were held Saturday at 2 pm at the Clearmont Cemetery.

SHAMBAUGH — Word has been received that Ronald
[Paul] Huff of
St Joseph, about 58, died Sunday [July 8, 1973] of a heart attack. He and his
wife were at a lake where they have a cabin and Mr. Huff had been skiing.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter [Henry] Huff [Gertrude Beery] of Clearmont. His sister is Mrs.
Frank (Thorna) Van Pelt of Clearmont. Mrs. Lulu Overholt of Shambaugh is his only aunt.
He grew up between Shambaugh and Coin and had several
cousins in the Shambaugh vicinity.
His wife and four children survive him.
Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday at the Colonial
Funeral Home in St Joseph and burial will be at Memorial Gardens in Maryville.

1973] in Norman, Okla. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Jerome Osborne. George

made for Tuesday, the body being met at Omaha this Monday. Carl Cummings, Bedford minister, will officiate and burial in Hopkins cemetery.

Funeral services for Glen Lewis McMaster, 77, of Clearmont. Mo., formerly
of Bedford, were held May 27 in Maryville, Mo. Mr. McMaster died May 25 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, where
he had been a patient three months. Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery.
Born December 28, 1895, in Taylor County, he was the son
of William D. [aniel] and Olive [Mariah Lewis] McMaster; his sisters were [Sarah] Ruth McMaster Lewis and Mrs. Mary [Esther] Dowell.
He was married in 1919 at Savannah to Dorothy Corwin, who preceded him in death
November 23, 1972.
He was owner and operator of a service station in
Clearmont.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth McMaster, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and a
daughter, Mrs. Hubert Twaddle of Elmo, Mo.

Shambaugh resident until moving to Maryville two years ago, died Thursday [September
15, 1966] at the Maryville hospital following a brief illness.

was born Sept 26, 1886, at Albany, the daughter of the late Elisha A [llen] and
Mary Ross Lomax. She was married
Dec 25, 1910, at Albany, to Martin Luther Oliver. She had lived at Shambaugh for 25 years. She was
a member of the Methodist Church.

services were this Monday at Maryville and burial in Maryville cemetery.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs George Hunter of Higginsville, Mrs Zelma A Akes of Maryville and Mrs Charles Wardlow of Burlington; one son, Curtis Oliver of Bedford, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. |

Glines of Clarinda, died Tuesday
[June 19, 1973] at the hospital in Maryville and services for her were held
this Thursday at Price Funeral Home with burial in the Hopkins cemetery.
She
had had a brief illness, hospitalized only a day. She is survived by a son, Frank
Scott of Maryville and sister, Mrs
John Broadstone of McFall. Her
husband, Sherman D Scott, died
in January of 1948.

Sheirbon lifelong resident of area
Homer
M Sheirbon, 72, lifelong resident
of this area, died Friday afternoon at Municipal Hospital where he had been
admitted earlier in the day.
Services
were held Sunday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Lester Greenwood
officiating. Grace Perry was organist and H E Richardson soloist. Casket bearers
were Dennis Mellencamp, Randy Gray, Dwayne Paulsen, Kenneth Jensen, David Reed
and Dennis Garvin. Burial was in the Clearmont, Mo, cemetery.
Mr.
Sheirbon was born Mar 29, 1901,
at Clearmont, the son of Jess [Edward] and Melvina Irvin Sheirbon. On. July 26, 1927, he was married to Beatrice
Martin who survives.
Mr.
Sheirbon had been a barber since
he was 17 years old. He was a member of the Methodist church in Bagley, Iowa.
Besides
his wife of the home at 324 West Logan, he is survived by three children, Mrs.
Wayne (Carmen) Hartman of
Clarinda, Mrs. Robert (Lorena) Gray of Stanton, and Mrs. Carroll (Marian) Garvin of Storm Lake, and eight grandchildren.
His mother is Mrs. Jess (Melvina) Sheirbon of Clarinda, a brother, Stanley Sheirbon of Meridian, Idaho; a sister, Frances Stone of Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Harold. |

Inez Sloan burial at Clearmont
Services for Mrs. Inez Pearl [Adkins Turpin] Sloan, 87, of Clearmont, sister of Mrs.
Charlene [Catherine Adkins] Youngmark of Coin, were being held this Monday, the funeral at
Price Chapel in Maryville and burial in the Clearmont cemetery.
She had a brief illness and was at the Davidson Boarding Home
in Clearmont. Three sons, a brother and three sisters are among her survivors.
She was married to L. [ewis] Elbert Sloan who died in February of 1964.

Services held for Glen
Young
Glen
W Young, 64, of Shambaugh died Thursday
afternoon [May 23, 1974] while working on the water system that is being
installed at Shambaugh. He was born Aug 12, 1909, at Sidney, the son of Walter
Franklin and Etta Elizabeth Reed Young.
He was married to Roberta Black on July 31, 1931.
For
the past 20 years, Mr Young had worked on construction. He had retired last year and was going to be in
charge of the Shambaugh water system. The family had lived in the Hawleyville
area and moved to Shambaugh about 10 years ago. Mr Young attended school at Burlington Jct, Mo.
Services
were held Monday afternoon [May 27, 1974] at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Lewis
Hunter in charge. Jim McAlpin was soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket
bearers were Lloyd Lininger, Charley Geer, Willard Blessing, Leland Reeve,
Wilbur McClarnon and Wendell McClarnon. Burial was in Ohio Cemetery at
Burlington Jct.
Mr Young is survived by his wife of the home and three children: Dean E Young of Topeka, Kan, Mrs Richard (Darlene) Bix of Clarinda, and Mrs Gary (Delores) Crowdy of Clarinda. There are four grandchildren. His mother Mrs Etta Young lives at Clearmont, Mo. Two sisters are Mrs Leona Evans of Clearmont, and Mrs Cople (Louise) Porterfield of Belle Fourche, S D. |
