[ALLEN, STANLEY RUSSELL] Mr. Allen was born May 6, 1902 at Bedford, the son of Frank Allen and the late Leah Hensley Allen. He was married Apr. 22, 1925 to Doris Hook, who survives. Surviving are his widow, of the home; his father, of Hopkins; a brother, Cecil Allen, Hopkins and a niece and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Hopkins. The Rev. A. V. Hart will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Walter Cox. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church. Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins, is in charge of arrangements.
[ARCHER, DANIEL MILBURN] He was born July 12, 1886, at Corbin, Kan., and was the son of the late Elmer and Lucy Archer. He was married Dec. 23, 1910, to Miss Ethel Clark, at Billings, Okla., who preceded him in death in 1960. He was a retired farmer and a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Maryville. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a. m. Thursday at Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins. The Rev. Norman Abbott will officiate and burial will be in a Hopkins cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walker Smith, Marathon, Ia.; three sons, Donald Lee Archer, Seattle, Wash.; Daniel Archer, St. Peter, Minn., and Milburn Forest Archer, Blockton, Ia.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Jim Richardson, Maryville.
[ARCHER, ETHEL SARAH CLARK] Mrs. Archer was born Sept. 19, 1890, at Beaver Crossing, Neb., the daughter of the late Forrest Clark and Hattie Hoover Clark. Her marriage to Milburn Archer took place Dec. 23, 1910, at Enid, Okla. She was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church. Survivors are her husband, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Walker Smith, Kansas City; three sons, Milburn Archer, jr., Blockton, Ia.; Donald Archer, Seattle, Wash., and Daniel Archer, St. Peters, Minn., and 10 grandchildren. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Hopkins Christian Church. The Rev. A. V. Hart will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[BAKER, JOHN] Mr. Baker ran a truck garden at the edge of Hopkins and owned a meat market there at one time.
[BARNES, EFFIE JOSEPHINE POLLARD] Mrs. Barnes, who was born in Ohio, had lived practically her entire life in the Hopkins community. Survivors include besides her husband, three sons, David Barnes, Maryville; Freman Barnes, Hopkins, and Allen Barnes, Bedford; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Welton [Williams], Kansas City; nine grandchildren and one brother, Charles Pollard, Topeka.
[BARNES, EFFIE JOSEPHINE POLLARD LAYTON] She is survived by her husband, F. [letcher] A. [llen] Barnes; three sons, Freman Barnes of Hopkins, Allen Barnes of Bedford, David Barnes of Maryville; a daughter Mrs. Thomas Williams, North Kansas City; a brother, Charles Pollard of Topeka, Kans., and nine grandchildren.
[BARNES, FLETCHER ALLEN] Mr. Barnes who was a member of the Wray Memorial Methodist Church, Hopkins, was born Mar. 8, 1874, in Arkansas, to David E. Barnes and Anna Willard Barnes. He was married Dec. 24, 1902, to Effie Layton at Hopkins. Mrs. Barnes died Nov. 27, 1954. He is survived by three sons, Freeman [Freman] and Allen Barnes, both of Bedford, Ia., and David Barnes, Maryville; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Williams, Kansas City North; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Todd, La Junta, Colo., Mrs. Francis Curry, Mrs. Olive McCoy and Mrs. Lou Badger, all of Pomona, Cal., 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the Wray Methodist Church, Hopkins, with the Rev. Gerald Sappington officiating. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery. The body is at Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[BEAUCHAMP, HOWARD DAVID] He was born Sept. 21, 1909 in Ross Township, Taylor County Iowa, the son of the late Elmer H. and Elsie Wilson Beauchamp. He was a graduate of the Hopkins High School and had lived most of his life in the Hopkins and Maryville area until about twelve years ago. He had lived in Denver, Colorado the past nine years. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Wilmore-Richter Post No. 161 in Arvada, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by three brothers, Dean Beauchamp of Bedford, John Beauchamp and Roy Beauchamp of Des Moines; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth King and Mrs. Alta Greever of Maryville, Mrs. Clarice Bartlett of LeRoy, Kans., and Mrs. Edna Barbour of Clearmont, Wyo.; 12 nieces and nephews; three great nieces, one aunt; several cousins and many friends.
[CAMPBELL, FRANCES ALPHA THOMPSON] Mrs. Campbell was the wife of the late Wheeler Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Ropersons Funeral Home, Lincoln. Graveside services will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Hopkins Cemetery.
[CAMPBELL, JONAS WHEELER] Mr. Campbell was born May 18, 1877, at Maryville. He left here and had resided in Lincoln for four years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Frances Campbell, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Childress, Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Beatrice Reese, Castile, N. Y.; one son, Kenneth Campbell, Fonda, Ia.; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Griffin, Pawhuska, Okla. Services will be held at 3 p. m. Monday at Price Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Judah officiating. Burial will be at Hopkins. The body is at Price's.
[CHAMBERS, HARRY] He was born Feb. 4, 1877, southwest of Hopkins and was the son of the late William Harrison and Frocine James Chambers. He was married Jan. 6, 1909, in Denver, Colo., to Miss Alma Downing, who survives. He was a retired barber and farmer. He had moved into Hopkins two years ago from the farm. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Swanson Funeral Home and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Sappington will officiate. Besides his wife of the home he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Earl Furth, The Dalles, Ore.; one son, Loren William Chambers, in a veterans hospital in Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Della Ulmer, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Sylvia Ulmer, Hopkins; one brother, Loren V. Chambers, Pickering, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Sandra Middleton, Oregon City, Ore. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[CHESHIRE, ROBERT EUGENE] He was born Apr. 3, 1904, at Northboro, Ia., the son of the late John and Rebecca Elizabeth Lesher Cheshire. On Apr. 2, 1943, he was married at Maryville to Miss Beula Traster, who survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include five sisters, Mrs. W. L. Whitmore, Clarinda, Ia., and Misses Manila, Loah, Gwendolyn and Ruth Cheshire, Clearmont, and one brother, George Cheshire, Clearmont. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins, with the Rev. Norman J. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[COLEMAN, JACK LYNN "JACKIE"] Coleman had been in the service with the army for six years and had spent a year in Vietnam Born March 27, 1948, at Maryville, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coleman, Hopkins. He was graduated from the North Nodaway R-VI High School, Hopkins, and attended college at Fairbury, Neb. On June 22, 1968, he was married at Pickering to Janice Loch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Loch. He was a member of the Pickering United Methodist Church. Besides his wife of the home and his parents, he is survived by two sons, Geoffrey and Keith Coleman of the home; a brother, Allen Coleman, Hopkins, and a sister, Miss Kay Ann Coleman, Craig. Memorial services were held today in Virginia. The body is to be brought to the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins. Services will be held at 2 p. m Friday at the Hopkins First Christian Church, with the Rev. Fred Paxton officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery, where military services will be conducted.
[COLEMAN, NORA AMANDA THOMPSON] Born Feb. 20, 1885, in Taylor County, Ia., she was the daughter of the late Keller and Mary Elizabeth Morris Thompson. On Apr. 28, 1906, she was married at Hopkins to Walter Coleman, who preceded her in death June 25. She had resided most of her life in the Hopkins community. This spring she was presented a 50-year membership pin by the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Frances Campbell, Lincoln, Neb., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Hopkins Christian Church, with the Rev. Fred Paxton officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. The Hopkins Chapter, OES, will conduct graveside services. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[COLEMAN, ROBERT LYNN] Turner had left Coleman about 2 p.m., and when he returned he found him caught in the machinery. According to Dr. R. E. Knapp, Nodaway County coroner, Coleman died of strangulation and a broken neck. He was born Nov. 21, 1909, at Pickering, the son of the late Lew and Lola Gray Coleman, and had been a lifelong resident of the Hopkins community. He was a member of the Hopkins First Christian Church. On May 17, 1941, he was married at Albany to Doris Cubbage, who survives. Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by one son, Allen Coleman, Hopkins; one daughter, Miss Kay Ann Coleman, Craig; four brothers, Raymond and Floyd Coleman, Hopkins; Russell Coleman, Grant City, and Sherman Coleman, Gravity, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Kellogg and Mrs. Maxine Morrison, Hopkins; Mrs. Mary Brand, Ravenwood, and Mrs. Betty Hardee, Grand view, and four grandsons. A son, Sgt. Jackie Lynn Coleman, died Nov. 29, 1975, at Ft. Belvoir, Va., where he was in service. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hopkins First Christian Church with the Rev. Loren Works officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[COLEMAN, WALTER] A retired farmer, he was born Feb. 17, 1880, near Pickering, and was the son of the late Robinson Crusoe and Lydia Levasy Coleman. He had resided in and around Hopkins most of his life. He was married to Miss Nora Thompson, who survives. He was a 50-year member of the Xenia Masonic Lodge and Hopkins Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the Hopkins First Christian Church. The Rev. Fred Paston will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at the graveside. Besides his wife of the home he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Chloe Scrivner and Mrs. Helen Salmon, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Bertha Church, Long Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.

[CORNELL, SARAH ALICE WEBB] Mrs. Peter Cornell of Burlington Junction, 62 years old, mother of Joe Cornell of Maryville, died at her home last night of apoplexy. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the M. E. Church in Burlington Junction. Other funeral arrangements have not been completed. Mrs. Cornell was born In Knoxville, Ill., Aug. 21, 1864. She came to Nodaway County fifty years ago, the family locating near Burlington Junction. Surviving are her husband and six children. They are Joe Cornell, Maryville; Mrs. Gertie Gohn and Will Cornell, Burlington Junction; Charles Cornell, Bedford, Ia.; Mrs. Anna Sharp, fort Lupton, Colo.; and Ray Cornell, Atchison, Kan. Mrs. Cornell also leaves her mother, Mrs. Harriett Webb of Burlington Junction; and Mrs. Hattie Hobbs of St. Joseph.

Mrs. Corum had resided many years at Hopkins. Survivors include two sons, Galen Corum, Ralston, Neb., and Leroy Corum, Toole, Utah; five brothers, Lloyd and Ray Hills, Tarkio; Paul Hills, Colorado Springs, Colo.; George Hills, Wichita, Kan., and Elmer Hills, St. Joseph; a sister, Mrs. Mae Beck, Tarkio; 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins First Christian Church, with the Rev. Carl Hoff officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. [CORUM, ROBERT HENSON] He was born Oct. 25, 1885, at Elmo the son of the late William and Katherine Horn Corum. He lived in Hopkins for almost two years and in the Hopkins community for 25 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Hopkins, and was a retired farmer. He was married Jan. 18, 1911, at Blanchard, Ia., to Miss Edna Hills, who survives. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the Hopkins Christian Church. The Rev. Loyd Means will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. [DERKS, THEODORE "THEO"] Theo Derks, 66 years old, well known retired farmer, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Conception Junction. His death followed three strokes of paralysis. The last stroke was sustained on Dec. 30 while Mr. and Mrs. Derks were at Hot Springs, Ark. They had gone there for the winter months, as had been their custom for several years, the stroke being suffered the day following their arrival there. Mr. Derks was brought home two weeks ago Tuesday. He was considered one of the wealthiest farmers in this part of the state. The family moved to the Conception neighborhood several years ago from Iowa. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at St. Benedict's Church at Clyde, at 9:30 o'clock.
[FLEMING, FRANCES VICTORIA PEW] George Fleming is a brother of the late T. E. Fleming, who died recently at his home near Graham. Mr. and Mrs. George Fleming moved to Suffolk, Mont., from Fillmore, and lived there until last fall, when they moved to California on account of Mrs. Fleming's failing health.
[GADDIS, CORA EDITH ALLEN] A former Braddyville resident, she is the widow of Fred Gaddis, who died in 1968. Services for Mrs Gaddis are pending at Walker funeral Home because of a funeral for her son-in-law, Edward Skeels, being held in San Antonio, Tex, this Friday. Burial will be at Hopkins, Mo. Survivors include children: Bill of Afton, Okla; Alva of Laramie, Wyo; Mrs Iva Skeels of San Antonio; Mrs H O (Geraldine) Perry of Seattle, Wash; Mrs Don (Lucille) White of Pico Rivera, Calif.; and Mrs Adrian (Lenora) Smith of Clarinda.

Mrs Gaddis is survived by seven children: Bill Gaddis of Afton, Okla; Alva Gaddis of Laramie, Wyo; Mrs. Iva Skeels of San Antonio, Tex; Mrs H O (Geraldine) Perry of Seattle, Wash; Mrs Don (Lucille) White of Pico Rivera, Calif; Mrs Charles (Audrey) Cavner of Inglewood, Calif and Mrs Adrian (Lenora) Smith of Clarinda she has 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Rosentreter.

"Stub" Albert Gill, 67-year-old Maryville barber, died at 5:43 p.m. Sunday at the St. Francis Hospital, where he had been a patient 10 days. Born Feb. 17, 1907, at Burlington Jct., he was the son of the late George Blackwell and Jonnie Laird Gill. On Sept. 29,1930, he was married at Grant City to Neola Noles, who survives. He was a member of the Nodaway Masonic Lodge. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John A. Gill, Skidmore; a daughter, Miss Jo E. Gill, Maryville; a sister, Mrs. Glenn Humphreys, Maryville; two brothers, Alfred M. Gill, Seattle, Wash., and George A. Gill, Cody, Wyo.; and two granddaughters, Ranae Kay and Julie Jo Gill. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hopkins Cemetery, with the Rev. Norman Lewis officiating. The body is at the Price Funeral Home.
[GLINES, ALBERT HENRY] Funeral services will be at 1 p. m. Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jerold Irvin officiating. Mr. Glines was born near Clearmont on Nov. 1, 1897, the son of Henry and Luella Simpson Glines. He was married to Maude Blanchard on March 22, 1922. He joined the Good Hope UME Church near Hopkins when he was a young man. He operated the Conoco station in New Market for 35 years before his retirement. They moved to Clarinda from New Market eight years ago. Mr. Glines has been in ill health for several years, being cared for by a son Eldon Albert Glines of Odessa, Tex. There are five grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs. John Broadstone of Bethany, Mo., is a sister. Joan Archer will be soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket bearers will be Bob Malcolm, Bill McDonald, Earl Lewis, Bob Pratt, Bill Bix, and Ralph Borden. Honorary bearers will be Franklin Chase, Irvin Miller, Guy Noble, Basil Troxel, Doyle Cooper and Lloyd Oxley. Burial will be in the Hopkins, Mo. cemetery.
[GLINES, ALBERT HENRY] He was born and raised in Nodaway County and his parents were the late Henry and Luella Glines. On March 22, 1922, he was married to Maude Blanchard, who survives. Additional survivors include a son, Eldon Glines, Odessa, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Edna Broadstone, Bethany; and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday at the Walker Funeral Home, Clarinda. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.

[HOLMES, LENA BELLE SOBBING] Her 11-year-old daughter, Darla, the other occupant of the car, is hospitalized at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Mrs. Holmes' survivors include her husband, Robert; three daughters, Twila, Nila and Darla.
[JOHNSON, BERNARD FALK "JUG"] A veteran of World War I, he was a charter member of Sergy Post No. 98 of the American Legion at Clarinda, Ia. He was born June 5, 1897, at Clarinda, Ia., the son of the late Clarence G. Johnson and Alma Falk Johnson. He was married Nov. 3, 1945, to Geneva Gorton. Surviving are his widow, of the home; a stepson, Charles Gorton, Maryville, and a brother, Clarence Johnson, Clarinda, Ia. Services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Methodist Church at Siam, Ia. The Rev. Lacy Thompson, New Market, will officiate. The Legion post will have a part in the service and burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.

[LAWRENCE, LOUIS FRANK] Mr. Lawrence had lived in the Hopkins community for the past 12 years and farmed four miles west of Hopkins. He was born May 19, 1917 at Carbon, Ia., the son of the late Arthur and Bertha Peterson Lawrence. His marriage to Helen Randolph took place June 21, 1937. Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Lincoln Center Methodist Church, near Corning, Ia. Survivors are his widow and a daughter, Sara Diane Lawrence, of the home, and another daughter, Miss Joan Louise Lawrence, Des Moines, Ia., and three sisters, Mrs. Leo Ryan, Conway, Ia.; Mrs. James Wilburn, Carroll, Ia., and Mrs. Melvin Rieff, Creston, Ia. Funeral rites will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Hopkins Christian Church. Body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p. m. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery with graveside rites by Xenia Lodge No. 50, AF and AM. Swanson Funeral Home will have charges of the services.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mamie Lett, Maryville; a son, Raymond Lett, Des Moines, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Milne, St. Joseph; Mrs. Henry DeMott, Maryville, and Mrs. Albert DeMott, Bedford, Ia.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Rutledge and Mrs. Pearl Herman, Denver, Colo. Services were held at 2 p. m. today at the Price Funral Home. Dr. Ralph Hicks officiated and burial was in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[LETT, HARRY HAMILTON] Dr. Ralph Hicks was the officiating minister. Carl Redmon sang "In the Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. J. W. Hake was the organist. Pallbearers were Alva Lett, Forrest Lett, L. J. Lett, Danny DeMott, Lanny DeMott and Don Robey.
[LETT, MAMIE E. WRAY] Born Sept. 3, 1883, at Maryville, the daughter of the late Isaac Newton and Sarah Crane Wray, she had lived in Maryville 23 years. Prior to that she had lived in the Hopkins community, where she spent her early married life on a farm. She was married April 2, 1904, to Harry Lett, who died April 2, 1960. She was a member of the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Albert DeMott, Bedford, Iowa; Mrs. Henry DeMott, Hopkins, and Mrs. J. Ralph Milne, Oregon; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins, with the Rev. Carl Hoff officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[LISTER, ELIOT JAMES] He was a retired educator, having served as superintendent of schools for 26 years prior to his illness. He had resided in the Hopkins community for the past 21 years. He received his BS degree from Northwest State College, Maryville, and his MA degree from Drake University, Des Moines, Ia. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Hopkins. He was born Oct. 22, 1902, at Gravity, Ia., the son of the late Frank and Daisy Stickelman Lister, and was married Apr. 30, 1932, at Maryville, to the former Miss Thelma Milbank, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Maurice Mires, Harrisonville; a son, Basil Lister, Hannibal; three grandchildren and one brother, Vernon Lister, Knoxville, Ia. [MACK, LEVI J. "LEE"] Mack was despondent over the death of his wife, which occurred about one week ago. He is said to have threatened to take his life at the time of his wife's death. Mrs. Mack succumbed to cancer of the stomach after an extended illness. Their only child, Miss Alma Mack, arrived at Sheridan this morning from St. Louis where [she] is teaching school. She had arrived home and was preparing breakfast for her father when he shot himself. He was in an adjoining room. Mr. Mack had lived in Sheridan for many years. At one time he was a cook in a restaurant there. Because of his despondency, neighbors had been staying with Mack. Funeral arrangements had not been completed late today.

[MONNETTE, ETHEL CLARK] Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Clark received a message Friday evening telling of the serious illness of their daughter, Mrs. Mervin J. Monnette, of Los Angeles, Cal. They left Saturday night, being met in Omaha by the son, O. A. Clark, of Albia, but failed to get there before her death, as Mrs. Roy Collins, another daughter, received word Sunday morning that she had passed away. Two other sons, Fred Clark, of Savannah, and Mrs. Bert Clark of Chillicothe will also attend the funeral. Another daughter, Mrs. W. A. Lindsey, resides in Los Angeles so the only one of the family unable to be present will be Mrs. Collins of this city.

[MOREHOUSE, JAMES CLYDE] In November 1946 he married Doris Newberry. To this union two sons were born, William Joseph and Stephen Edward. Later he was united in marriage to Grace Auffert on April 16, 1978. He passed away Wednesday evening, Aug. 2, 2006 at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha, NE, following an injury and extended illness. Jim was well known for his woodworking, insurance adjusting for crops, and gardening. He also loved to dance. Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace of Bedford; his two sons, Joseph of Blair, NE, and Stephen of New Market, IA; one sister, Barb Morehouse of Des Moines, IA; two sisters-in-law Josie Morehouse of Hopkins, MO, and Virginia Morehouse, Kansas City, KS; two step children, James Auffert of Chillicothe, MO, and Joyce Smith of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Stephenie, Emily, Bill, Kelly, T. [MURPHY, JAMES] Mr. Murphy was born Dec. 22, 1865, in Holt County, and had lived in this part of the state all his life. His home had been in Nodaway County for fifteen years. Surviving Mr. Murphy are his widow, and two sons, Lee, living two miles south of Skidmore and Glenn Murphy, at home. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, Will and George Murphy and Mrs. Stella Goldsberry, all of Colorado.

[PORTER, LEWIS] He was born in Virginia September 18, 1850, and while he was still a baby the family moved to Ohio. Mr. Porter was 9 years old when he came to Missouri and settled in Platte County. Later he lived at Guilford. Most of his adult life was spent in Nodaway County. Mr. Porter was married June 3, 1872, to Eliza Lanning. She died July 4, 1932, shortly following the observance of their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ella Bloomfield, Harmony community; three sons, Frank Porter, Elder, Kan.; Elmer Porter, Harmony community; John Porter, Parnell; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Sharp, Hollister, Calif.; Mrs. Kathryn Bryant, Vacaville, Calif.; a brother, John Lanning, Hollister, Cal. There are nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

[REYNOLDS, MARIE NANCY PAYMAL] Born March 2, 1899 at Lenox, Iowa, the daughter of the late George and Maggie Nelson Paymal, she was married July 28, 1920, at Bedford, Iowa, to John Ellsworth Reynolds, who died June 3, 1962. A resident of Maryville 16 years, she formerly had lived 29 years in Hopkins. She was a member of the Lenox Christian Church. Surviving is a son, Gene Reynolds, Sedalia; a daughter, Dorothy Darlene Olmsted Hamm, Shenandoah, Iowa; four granddaughters and two great granddaughters. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p. m. [SAFLEY, HAZEL INEZ HENSLEY] Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service on State St. Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Colvin Caughey. Hazel Inez Hensley, daughter of Tillman and Ella Hensley, was born March 28, 1895 in Taylor County, Iowa and died at the age of 65 years and 10 days. In 1914 she was married to Alford Safely and to this union were born one son and seven daughters, all of whom survive. They are Ralph Safely of Bedford; Mrs. Dorothy Mains of Sharpsburg, Mrs. Agnes Scherich of Bedford, Mrs. Irene Masker of Arvada, Colo., Mrs. Helen Henderson of LaFayette, Colo., Miss Naomi Safely of Omaha, Mrs. Donna Ernest and Mrs. Mary McBride of Bedford. Also surviving are four brothers, Wayne Hensley, Ralph Hensley, Halbert Hensley of Bedford and Rollie Hensley of Maryville; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hopple of Bedford, Mrs. Opal Wallace of Portland, Oregon and 14 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Reed Hensley and Beryl Hensley, and by one sister, Mrs. Garland Scott.

The body will arrive in Maryville Thursday noon. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Price Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. R. A. Mitchell, pastor of the M. E. church, South. Burial will be in Miriam cemetery. Besides his mother, Mr. Sheldon is survived by one brother, Orville Sheldon, Kansas City, and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Hill, Kansas City, and Mrs. Myrtle Dyson of Soo Chow, China. [SHELL, MAY LUCINDA MONEY] Rev. Orlo S. Lincoln, pastor of the Christian church of Hopkins will officiate at both services. Burial will be in the Skidmore cemetery. Mrs. Shell was born September 19, 1872, at Princeville, Ind., the former Miss May Lucinda Money, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Money. She was married December 31, 1891, to Charles Shell. Mrs. Shell, who had been a patient at the hospital only three days, had resided in the Hopkins community twenty-one years. She was a member of the Christian church of Hopkins. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Eldola Barnes, Hopkins, and Mrs. Esther McDonald, Conception Junction; two sons, Lester Shell, Lawrence, Kas., and Orie Shell, Hopkins; one sister, Mrs. Mark Logan, Limon, Colo.; one brother, William Money, Skidmore, and eleven grandchildren.
[SHELL, ORIE KEENE] He was married on August 7, 1926 to Janete [Janette] Mendenhall, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Irma (Mrs. Duane Thummel and namesake, his little grandson, Keane Franklin Thummel of Bedford, who he adored and who brightened his last 19 months Also one brother, Lester Shell of Hopkins; two sisters, Mrs. Freman Barnes of Bedford, Mrs. Esther McDonald of Maryville. He united with the Christian church in Hopkins in early manhood. He has been a member of Xenia Lodge at Hopkins since January 1922 and served as Worshipful Master in 1939. He had been afflicted with arthritis for 15 years and entered the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., May 4. Orie had been in business 34 years in Hopkins. For the past 22 years he operated the Shell Service station on Highway 27 at Hopkins. Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Wednesday afternoon, May 19, Rev. A. V. Hart officiating. Xenia lodge attended the services in a body.

[STRUTHERS, CLIFFORD ELLSWORTH] He was born July 30, 1891, near Shambaugh to George and Anna Wallick Struthers. He and his wife, the former Bertha Wolcott, farmed near Shambaugh until the early 1930s when they moved to a farm near Hopkins. They continued to live there until two years ago when they moved into Hopkins. Surviving are his wife of the care center, one son, Merlin and wife Lynn of St. Joseph, Mo, Merlin's two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Janet) Sheridan of St. Joseph and Mrs. Gary (Kathy) Bell of Cameron, Mo; three great grandchildren and one sister, Gleda Struthers of Shambaugh. He came to Missouri from Winterset, Ia. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Joe Damewood, Maryville, and Mrs. Deloss Nicholas, Hopkins; three sons, Dale V. Weland, of the home; Lawrence G. Weland of Elmo, and Kenneth C. Survivors are his widow, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Damewood, Maryville, and Mrs. DeLoss Nicholas, Hopkins; three sons, Dale Weland, of the home; Lawrence Weland, Elmo, and Kenneth Weland, Shenandoah, Ia.; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Edd Weland, living in California. Services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the Swanson Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[WELAND, DALE VERNON] Weland was a retired salesman. He had lived in Maryville for the past 13 years and prior to that time had lived in Hopkins. He was a member of the Westpoint United Methodist Church at Westboro. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Eldon (Wilda) Koger, Hopkins, and Mrs. Dorothy Damewood, Maryville; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins. The Rev. Loren Works will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[YOUNG, JOHN JACOB] Funeral services will be held at Hopkins at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be at Hopkins. Mr. Young is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ida McCumber, near Clearmont, M. D. Young, Hopkins and Clate Young, who lives in Iowa. |
